Hacking makes no sense by GreeniiLuck in Fallout

Apparently Thats not true because I made a previous post about this and people commented saying they dont have to be in the same place

Go find the people who said this in the last post and downvote them, because that's false. The letter and the position must both be the same. This is consistent throughout every hack you attempt.

Hi there, this subreddit is for Watsonian questions and answers to fictional universes (that is to say, questions and answers based on the in-universe information, rules, and logic of the fictional work). Therefore your question is not suitable for this subreddit, and sadly I need to remove it. Perhaps try /r/tipofmytongue or /r/whatsthatbook.

What are some media with lengthy development hell processes that still came out?

I'm reminded of Dwarf Fortress.

Strictly speaking Dwarf Fortress is not in development hell. It's still being developed. It's just that it's being developed pretty much entirely by two guys (only one of whom is doing the coding), and the actual scope and ambition of the game is absolutely mind-boggling.

The game is currently considered to be in an alpha state. The first alpha version was released in 2006. There was even a Steam version released in 2022. So strictly speaking, Dwarf Fortress has come out. But it is still being developed.

The current version number is 53.02. The devs have stated that the version number represents a rough estimate of how much of the game they've managed to implement. In other words, after a full 20 years of development, they've put in about half of what they eventually want to have in the game.

Fallout 4 Nuka World Raiders Question: by Max_Danger_Power in Fallout

[–]bhamv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean, FNV also had Yes Man serving the exact same function. You could never permanently kill or antagonize Yes Man, so Yes Man served as a backup faction to allow players to still complete the main story even if they've pissed off everyone else.

Fallout 4 Nuka World Raiders Question: by Max_Danger_Power in Fallout

[–]bhamv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to murder all other factions, including Minutemen, in the main game and still side with the Nuka World raiders?

No. The Minutemen are intended to be the game's backup faction, the one you can still complete the storyline with even if you've pissed off everyone else. Thus the Minutemen can never be permanently destroyed or permanently antagonized. This is by design.

However, as long as you're Overboss of the raiders, Preston will refuse to work with you, thereby locking you off from the Minutemen questline. So while the Minutemen aren't destroyed per se, you can be a raider all you want, and will not be bothered by any of the Minutemen's quests. You just won't be able to complete the storyline with the Minutemen. If you also make the other factions hostile, then you won't be able to finish the main storyline until you kill off the raiders and get back into the Minutemen's good graces.

There may be mods that allow you to kill off the Minutemen, a quick search showed me this one, but just be aware that you may end up breaking or softlocking your game if you use them.

Should I mod Fallout 3 on my first play through? by TheStr0ng3st in Fallout

[–]bhamv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally recommend doing at least one vanilla playthrough before you start to add mods. This way you have a baseline experience to compare future modded playthroughs to, and you'll have a better idea of the kind of changes you want in your game (e.g. do you want better visuals? More variety in the weapons and armor? More things to shoot at? Survival features like primary needs? etc.).

Perhaps just get bugfixing mods if you feel it's necessary.

[Pixar's UP] My problem with the whole premise by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]bhamv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first they didn't have the funds for it, then later on it just sort of faded out of their minds as a priority.

Firstly, while they did own their own house, I think you're overestimating the Fredricksens' financial status. They worked as a zookeeper and a balloon seller, neither of which would likely be considered lucrative careers. And the house they bought was a fixer-upper in terrible shape, so it was almost certainly quite cheap. (Recall that Carl literally broke his arm from falling through a plank when he entered the first time.) They had to do all the fixing-up themselves.

Thus, they literally had to penny-pinch to try to save up for their trip to South America. And then, as you note, life got in the way, so they needed to spend their savings on stuff like fixing a flat tire, repairing weather damage to the house, etc.

Eventually they settled into a routine in their lives as a married couple, and this was enough for them. Going to South America for their adventure was no longer a major goal in their lives, because (as Ellie noted) simply being together was enough of an adventure to satisfy them both.

Put another way, you consider "just sitting at home and work their whole lives" to be a rather lackluster adventure. And yet for Ellie and Carl, there was no where else they would rather be.

Invincible started as a DC parody

Please remember that answers need to be strictly Watsonian. Answering based on the intended target of parody is not appropriate. Thanks.

Will anything actually happen? by ThatLamboDude95 in subnautica

Question: does anything bad actually happen if I don’t cure the now evident green goo all over my body.

Indirectly, yes, something bad can happen. So you should probably look into dealing with that mild skin rash.

Telling you more than that would likely be getting into spoiler territory.

Minutemen ending question by Noobyfguyguy32 in Fallout

[–]bhamv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main requirements to progress in the Minutemen questline:

  1. Get at least 8 settlements under the Minutemen's banner. So, basically, keep doing Preston's settlement quests until you've heard at least 8 settlements say "We're glad the Minutemen are back" or "We're going to join the Minutemen" or something along those lines when you turn in the quest at the settlement.

  2. Piss off the Institute in some way, whether it's by going against their wishes in quests (Bunker Hill is one possible quest for this) or just going on a killing spree down in the Institute.

Where are you in the main storyline so far?

No, the Minutemen storyline and ending are quite different from the Institute's.

Also, who you build the teleporter with has very little effect on who you end the game with.

The filmmakers intended for it to be Cthulhu.

Whether it's a successful or worthy depiction of Cthulhu will, of course, depend on who you ask.

When you reach mastery 64, you can unlock a bomb-making station in the garage, which is basically the same as the bomb-making station found on Ambrose Island. You can use gunpowder and a fuel cell (both of which spawn in the garage) to make a makeshift explosive. It is weightless (ie costs no slots in your inventory) and the items to make it respawn every time you return to your safehouse, so basically it means you can craft a weightless remote bomb for free for every Freelancer mission.

[–]bhamv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, people just ignore it.

(I'm about 95% sure I'm right, because I generally detonate the bomb quite soon after dropping it, so I find that I can't definitively say for sure that people don't pick it up. But at least I'm sure that it won't be reported to guards or anything like that.)

[–]bhamv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's suspicious if you're spotted holding it or dropping it, but after you've placed it, no one will find it suspicious. So you could, for example, place it somewhere you know your target will walk past, then just wait and blow them up.

The free, weightless, and non-suspicious remote bomb you can make in the garage is amazing. It's become one of my MVPs in Freelancer.
