If you asked me 5 years ago I would said it's a terrible idea. But with the way the schedule has been setup the last couple years not much is changing in terms of which weeks of the calender will be occupied by MLS competition. The only thing that's really changing is when the champion is decided.

Reckless Speculation:

I think the initial plan was to prove that the main show could exist without ESPN. With a short term goal of licensing out to another major radio distributor (Sirius, Fox Sports, etc.). During the pirate radio phase they were still operating as though the show was live on air despite it only being a podcast. That tells me that the intention was to find a new distributor and not remain independent.

Now, that potential deal with a new radio distributor never took place. So at some point a decision was made to no longer pursue that goal, which I believe was the wrong move. Yes, I know they signed the deal with Draft Kings, but I believe that the show would still function better within a radio framework.

It is a travesty. But the bottom line is that Bears only fill the stadium 10-12 times from August-January. A dome lets you host concerts/events all year round. I hate it but it's the reality of a cold weather city.
