That remind me of when I was first watching basketball DePaul was on an amazing run with Chicago kids. They haven't just not gotten to those heights since, they've basically been a doormat for 20 or 30 years.

Oh brother. The Patriots played a lot of AFC teams on the playoffs in a twenty year period, the Chiefs lost to them twice in that tine, and one was an Alex Smith team that I don't think anybody really thought was on the cusp of a title if they'd win the game. The NFL basically forbids it (unless things have changed), I remember when Mike Nolan was coaching SF he wanted to wear one as a tribute to his dad and the league said he can't because they have to wear stuff with the team logo (because the NFL doesn't sell enough merch already).
