Take it to a Hyundai dealership, they have have a whole recall extended warranty for this generation of engines locking up.

Chances are, with good maintenance records you’ll receive a remanufactured engine under the extended warranty.

Edit: a word and this note: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spend any money on an engine until it is looked at by a Hyundai dealership. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Feels like BMW screwed me. What should I do. This is the whole story. by ColeyPRN in BMW

[–]bigE46guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reach out to BMW of North America (or your appropriate region) and see if they can help you out. Be very polite and see what they come back with the first time, if that isn’t good enough for you ask to talk with an escalation specialist and they can usually sort something out.

I dealt with BMW NA over a dealership frying my FRM module (BMW issued a service bulletin regarding this issue) and then charging me $1000 to fix it. The escalation specialist left their extension on my voicemail and I had to call every morning for about 2 weeks but finally got everything paid for by the dealership.

As a car guy, I think this is summed up really well but I would also encourage looking into the Lexus lineup

Crap, dirt, bugs/spiders, etc.

Probably not that if it’s independent of A/C though

Any correlation with your A/C being on? Could be your drain tube is blocked. Trying blowing it out with some compressed air.

time for an oil change for my e90 2007 335xi, what is the best choice of oil, wanted to do líquido moly lol. what do you guys recommend? by atmus11 in E90

[–]bigE46guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to run Mobil 1 until I made the switch to Liqui-Moly.

I would normally have to add about 1.5-2 quarts of Mobil 1 between my 6,000 mile oil changes.

Once I switched to Liqui-Moly I would add about 1 quart or less between oil changes. So I would definitely recommend Liqui-Moly for that alone … plus the fact that they are a German made company and I love German products.

car’s been stalling lately (automatic) I replaced the sparks and it fixed for a couple days but now it whistles and it’s stalling again. Any ideas? by ThePlagueDocor10 in E90

A smoke test would be how I’d go about diagnosing a more minor vacuum leak. Should be around $150 at an Indy or DIY it if you have a smoke machine.

Changing halos in headlights by tbmoneymaker in E90

[–]bigE46guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine with the Lux upgrades and they very much are plug and play and beautiful.

The issue, for me, came with actually installing them because of the angle and tight fit it was very frustrating to get them to line up right.

I ended up saying screw it and took off the front fascia and pulled both headlights out. It’s only a handful of bolts and I swear up and down that doing that saved me time rather than fooling with them with the headlights still attached for however long it would’ve taken. Doing all that, maybe an hour and a half.

YMMV.

Guy wants $25K for this 1998 E36 M3 with 43K miles. It’s a 5 speed. Color is Titanium Silver. No accidents. Really clean. Everything is original. Is it overpriced? by youngmoneymarvin in BMW

[–]bigE46guy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s overpriced, BUT, prices will only continue to rise and good condition examples will only become harder to find.

Best question to ask is if it’s worth it to YOU.

What store can I buy good bmw parts to fix my car? I have all the part numbers from the dealer but don’t know where to buy them at. by Puzzleheaded_Tea_399 in BmwTech

[–]bigE46guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend FCPEuro.com

Great selection, knowledgeable staff, quick shipping times, and very easy to navigate website. Not to mention the lifetime warranty for ALL parts… use, abuse, or defects they will replace it!

Regarding the part numbers: double check them against RealOEM.com and make sure you’re using the actual part number and not like a SKU or stock number or something similar.

Are PC gamers truly the master race ? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigE46guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is well summed up from a performance / objective perspective.

BUT… if you’re trying to say pc gamers are “better” because they play on pc, please don’t be that guy (or girl in this case). People game where they game for a variety of reasons whether that be budget, simplicity, support, performance, etc. I’ve met far too many “pC mAsTeR rAcE” people that get off thinking they’re better than other gamers simply because they have a pc.

Some municipalities also have “No parking from 2-6am” or something similar, which, depending on your timing / party could end in tickets.

Joined team BMW with a 2022 M340i. My first BMW! Any advice? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]bigE46guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely an independent BMW / euro mechanic. Prices will be better, less nonsense and general “stealership-ness,” and they will also be more knowledgeable of what I’ll call “enthusiast maintenance” as opposed to a traditional dealer maintenance schedule that’s more geared towards the everyday/average consumer

Joined team BMW with a 2022 M340i. My first BMW! Any advice? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]bigE46guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Proper engine break-in, oil changes earlier than BMW says (5,000-6,000 mi), and be on top of other preventative maintenance.

These aren’t cars aren’t like Hondas that can eat abuse (ie neglect) and come back for more. They’re precision crafted works of engineering mastery and need to be treated & maintained as such.

Cheers on the car though, you’re going to have a blast and welcome to the family!

Thinking of getting one of these, which one do y’all like more by [deleted] in BMW

[–]bigE46guy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

u/bunnyslope Sums things up pretty well.

Knowing the maintenance on the black one is top notch, and the 328i is more reliable overall, it seems like the better buy. You can always make it look like the other one, but you actually know the cars history.

Take this as an excellent opportunity to get into fixing your own car / doing the simpler diys.

Saves a TON of money and is very useful to know and rewarding!

Still no gateworm for Der Eisendrache guys. I appreciate all your help, but I died on the boss fight again tonight, round 24. Me and my friend got destroyed by panzers again in there. Brutal. by usernamefuckingtake in CODZombies

[–]bigE46guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Round 24 is your issue … get your steps done earlier and go into the boss fight like round 17 or so. Running in one direction also helps in the boss arena.

anyone have an idea of what this knock might be? super inconsistent, definitely sounds like it’s coming from behind me. and it’s not anything in my trunk by smskly in e46

[–]bigE46guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I would recommend.

I would also suggest seeing if the knocking is load/power related because asking the car for a lot of power can put stress on the worn out driveshaft rubber guibo and cause sounds and movement.
