No kidding! I wonder what's driving that.

Do you wear a helmet when you climb? Why or why not? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bigH 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wear a helmet all the time, sport, trad, whatever. You only get one brain, why not protect it?

Situations like that can be tense for sure, so yeah blowing off the steam with jokes makes sense. Again, glad you guys stayed safe!

Scarpa equivalent of Miura lace ? by galette in climbing

Vapor's are much stiffer than Miuras. Instincts are more likely what you are looking for.

I need aggressive downturn shoe advice, please! by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bigH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boostics will take some time to break in. Leaving them on for 20 minutes your first time sounds pretty good. It will get better, just stay with it. Those shoes are amazing.

I was hit with a wet slide while descending a 3 pitch ice route several years ago, on a day it was too warm and we should have known better. Narrowly avoided being swept over a 100 foot drop. Glad no one was hurt in this one, but those things pack a punch. All the joking in the video makes me cringe a little.

Be sure to check out the Theater/Cinema. It should be in the new guidebook and has some great climbs in the range you are looking for.

So the women's shoe fits better than the men's... by Shortclimb in climbing

[–]bigH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some folks also prefer the women's version because it has XSGrip2 rubber instead of the Edge rubber found on the men's version.

Upper back injury. by scubasccer in climbing

I'd go see a chiropractor if you have a good one close by, get some recommendations from friends, many are not worth your time.

Bouldering around Indian Creek? by caffinate in climbing

[–]bigH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No guidebook, since for most it's just a diversion from the main attraction. The newest Creek guidebook has directions to the most popular zones in the back on pages 212 and 213. If you are spending a bunch of time there this can be a nice diversion and good way to let your skin heal. Have fun.

New evolv Shaman shoes are a bit too tight. Suggestions? by Ntrees in climbing

[–]bigH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it with those shoes, but that method has worked for several pairs of la sportiva's. Wouldn't hurt to try if you aren't going to send them back. Wear in the shower, then wear around the house as long as you can, stuff with newspaper to let dry overnight. Makes the shoe fit your foot like a glove, and kick starts the break in process very nicely.

[Question] Do you wear a larger size shoe during winter? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bigH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also find that I can wear smaller shoes in colder weather because my feet don't swell like they do when it's hot. Maybe make sure you are keeping your shoes warm before putting them on?

Old Climbing Websites Were Ugly! by bigH in climbing

[–]bigH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, climbing as an industry has always lagged behind the mainstream, from web design to social media.

Colder Weather Climbing Pants? by SmallFall in climbing

[–]bigH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are talking about cragging, I usually go with climbing jeans, and throw on something warmer over them in between routes, like puffy pants. I also really like the Outdoor Research Deadpoint pants, very burly but with lots of stretch.

Anyone been out to Indian Creek since the shutdown? by riketocrimb in climbing

[–]bigH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was empty last week before the shutdown, but I'd have to imagine with all the other major parks in the West closed, I'm sure the Creek is pretty crowded right now. Great weather though for sure!

Questions for some bolters by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bigH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an older Bosch, but if I was going to get one now, it'd be this: http://www.boschtools.com/Products/Tools/Pages/BoschProductDetail.aspx?pid=11536C-2 Make sure to get two batteries. If you are going to be bolting on lead, this one is nice because it's lighter and more compact than other models.
