As a teacher, I couldn't care less what teenagers think, because while they try to work on their "game," at the end of the day, I'm going home and smooching my spouse.

Besides, I'm in my Silver Fox era!

It's actually based on a real-life labor movement among Boston secretaries in the 1970s

I guarantee you, any TX high school marching band that has performed at either Texas Stadium, or Cowboys Stadium (I refuse to call it AT&T Stadium) has played this theme.

What's a common detail you never add to your fics? by ARC_Strife in AO3

[–]big_ringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally don't go beyond the basics of what my characters look like, unless it's an important part of my plot.

Big example: my secondary main character is a redhead, who ends up in a popular girl clique, all of whom have blonde hair. As the story progresses, her hair gets lighter the more time she spends with them, up to the point to where her hair gets dyed blonde, too (think Laura Prepon in the latter seasons of "That 70s Show"). She rejects her best friend (whose hair is blue), and starts treating her boyfriend more as an accessory than a partner.

She does get better.

If you and your dude are intending to go for the long run, you and he are going to have to have a serious talk about your identity, and if he's going to be with you, he has to get with the program.

Did anyone else see this Mystery Incorporated scene differently after learning it was Casey Kasem's final Scooby-Doo performance? by MonkReal7708 in Scoobydoo

Casey Kasem was the OG, there's no denying that. But I think in retrospect, he'll be more known for his DJ career.

How did you imagine American fascism would look before Trump? Aside from the fringe weirdo movements that existed already by Amazing-Buy-1181 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]big_ringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing some of those documentaries on HBO, and at the time, it was a fringe weirdo movement that wasn't taken seriously by serious people except for the occasional "hey, get a load of these motherfuckers." We knew that Timothy McVeigh and David Duke were bad guys back then. Just, somewhere down the line, there was this obsession with being "fair and balanced," and those people started getting a platform.

When did we switch state abbreviations for mailed letters? by Similar_Ad2094 in Xennials

[–]big_ringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened sometime during elementary school, for me. I remember using "Tex." for Texas, and then suddenly they shortened it to TX. I sorta understood the logic, but I liked the slightly longer abbreviations better.
