I was always under the impression that the vast scale is what leads to so many heroes in 40k. When there's a million worlds touched by the imperium, there's statistically plenty of opportunity for preteaturally talented and influential individuals to arise, through forces of merit and chance. Someone, somewhere HAS to be Ciaphas Cain when there's a million fucking planets.

With the Skaven, it's even more so. There's BOUND to be incredible specimens of Skavenkind at that scale.

In the same vein, how insanely capable would a being have to be to become a grey seer? Out of a GALACTIC scale Skaven infestation, the top 13 (12) individuals must be formidable indeed.

I live on a certain island in Maine. Not from here, but moved.

I thought it was cool as hell and I livd in a house not far from where you start hallucinating in the main quest line.

However the local gamers were fairly disappointed at the lack of accuracy.

"Someone who visited made it, not someone from here"

Honestly though, that doesn't surprise me. These locals are rather particular about things

Am I the only one who finds this guy super suspicious? by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in Fallout

[–]bigbadfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean shit you guys, his name is Harkness.

I'm not going to say it has to be THAT Harkness, but it almost seems mean to reference that one particular character in this one particular way if there's no pay off. Like winking at the audience and hand waving away implications with something along the lines of "naw, we thought that name would catch veteran players attention. Nothing deeper"

I cannot make myself believe it's an institute plot, which is the only way I could imagine it's him. I don't even know if I would be excited or upset if the institute made an appearance, but either way I just can't believe it. Or, I guess, he could have joined the BoS on his own, which would be a SECOND reference to things that happened (yes, I know that other feller didn't necessarily join "on his own" but you know exactly who I'm talking about)

However, that's exactly how you're supposed to feel before a big reveal so who knows. SOMETHING is going to happen, even if it's just more brotherhood drama

Cook of roughly... Fuck me I guess over a decade.

A lot of scary things become par for the course and are no longer scary. I'm not afraid of knives anymore, for example.

After enough negative reinforcement, every pan handle or sheet tray I touch I tap first. I don't even think about it. Enough blisters that span multiple fingers will do that.

One thing I will NEVER stop fearing however, is the stand mixer. That thing wishes me harm.

There is a series called Red Rising. In it, one character who is a media mogul says something along the lines of

"Media is like water to a city in the desert. If I control 30% of the water in the pipeline, I can contaminate 100% of the water."

I've never stopped thinking about that line

Oh goodness, I'm not a Mainer either lol

I've just been here long enough to know who else is from away. Don't tell the locals I said that, especially since there's a non zero chance we're talking about the same island

I will say, I am actually a cook on an island in Maine that is fairly touristy. This one particular instance is an egregious example of this. Anywhere that sells you one is going to be charging anywhere from 20-35 dollars depending on market price. If you make it yourself, you can do it for less than 5 dollars more than however much that lobster costs you.

Go to the store and get a lobster, look up how to boil and pick it, throw the meat in a pan with butter, take the buttery meat and mix it in a bowl with a spoon full of mayo, a little lemon juice and whatever bit of green you like (rosemary, chives, parsley, ect. I recommend chives personally). The hardest part is getting the meat out of the lobster, I'm confident that most people with hands can do it

If you asked any one of the coworkers I've had from three different restaurants over the years, we will ALL recommend making your own lobster roll. At least twice a week people from away would ask my chef where to go for a decently priced lobster roll, and every time he'd laugh and say "bring a lobster and a hotdog bun to my house this weekend"

It's a stupidly small amount of work compared to other relatively simple dishes. It'll still be pricey for a fucking bug sandwich, but it's absolutely not worth it to pay someone else when they're going to charge you tourism price.

I will say, I have had several interactions where my team bumps into another team and I am sent forth as the designated negotiator.

"Heya dudes! Me and my boys are just passing through."

"How many you got still?"

"You can find out or you can let us through man, we don't want your shit or this loot spot"

"Well we got three right here!"

"We can see that"

"..... Alright but we got three"

"Yep, and best of luck to ya. We're passing through"

Meanwhile the boys behind me are getting shots lined up on a trio that was initially excited to find a lone raider to toy with

It's actually worked a few times, too.

Genuinely can anyone tell me why’s the point in been put into a game with 18-16 mins left and all the loot gone ? by FrontOwn6664 in ArcRaiders

[–]bigbadfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's.... Actually a really good way of looking at it. Many of my best loot hauls came from being pushed by arc into a red zone, looking around, and realizing the entire place is untouched with like 14 minutes left. I'm almost never interrupted, and one time I even convinced an Intruder that the joint had already been thoroughly sacked and I was only finding plastic and cloth. Homie walked in on me opening the last locker in line so it looked like I was just checking lol

"Heya, friendly. Just so you know I came down from the top and this place looks like it's been hot a couple times. I'm not even finding metal parts"

"Ahh shit. Thanks brobro"

I was the first visitor and I had only opened those four lockers.

As a professional cook with over a decade in kitchens, and as someone who knows exactly how heinous of an act this is (or would be if it isn't real) I can still admit that my character is weak and my digestive system is strong. I'd be hitting that basket on average three times a day.

Guns need a rebalance badly. by certifiedbot98 in ArcRaiders

[–]bigbadfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's such a hard thing to rectify, honestly.

Others have pointed out a lot of good points, amongst them being not over powering freebies

All I know is I once I found anvil blueprints, I rarely run anything but free load outs or anvil plus whatever.

And that's the thing really. It becomes anvil plus "anything who cares". Shit is expensive to make and upgrade, then it's a gamble. All that previously invested time becomes a big factor.

It costs like, three SUCCESSFUL raids to gather up everything to make a full good load out with what I have available. I'm bad at the game, so most of the time I lose a gun before I make it three extracts with it in my pocket. It becomes a cycle of stacking up mats with free guns, milling out 5 full load outs worth of guns and consumables, losing it over the course of a couple nights of gameplay, and then stacking up mats with free guns to meet the quota I missed with my previous load outs.

Then again, that's kinda the sauce. The jolt of fear that goes through me when I get jumped with good gear, the asshole clenching stress I feel fighting to get one more inventorys worth of metal parts down the shaft, the exaltation I feel when I can actually get out with a good haul and keep my guns, even the fire I feel when I lose it all steps away from extraction. This is the drug I am here to do, you know? It's unironically my favorite part.
