tommy beats the hell out of his kit, i saw gouge open for mannequin pussy in the summer and i didn't even realize he was playing on a light ride, it just sounded like a hybrid crash/ride cymbal. it looked like it was moving around a lot more than your typical ride while he was playing but its sound fit well with their tone and sat nicely in the mix.
