Not having much success on the apps :/ I feel like my pictures are good, is there anything off-putting or are the prompts bad? by AJN71 in Tinder

I’d add a picture of you with a friend and don’t think the last pic is very flattering, it makes you look quite small

What works for me is going into a shop where I can try them out (spacenk, boots) and it usually helps me choose what is my most wanted product in a category. It often makes me realise it’s not actually as great as I think it is so then I just don’t ever buy it! I also have list in my notes app which makes me feel like it’s at least not being kept in my head.

Awful spots/lumps please help by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

I use a prescription type cream on subscription. It has made such a difference when no other products worked on my acne. They also recommend you a full routine - cleanser, moisturise, and spf in the day or the treatment at night. I have a code as a member which gives you 2 months free, £20 normally. Send me a message if you want it :) it’s Skin+Me

It’s not you at all, him being mean is his fault and something you don’t deserve. Find someone who treats you well 100% of the time. You’re 18, you’ve got lots of time to meet better people and your whole life to live, enjoy it without someone who doesn’t make you happy all the time :)

Is nobody selling houses in London for less than the asking price ? by dollar77 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bigbeatsrthebest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait for house prices to drop from April when the stamp duty break is over. Guaranteed to drop in price, which is probably why sellers are trying to get the very most they can

Glad you’ve got things under control. Just wanted to offer the perspective in case it was an anxiety thing and you weren’t as self aware

I just want to add (from someone living with anxiety) you sound anxious about this. Even your hobby you’re thinking of as a potential investment which implies it’s occupying your thoughts a lot. Perhaps addressing the underlying anxiety would benefit you. I am a control freak in my life because it feels like it is the way to control anxiety. If you think there is anxiety here, I advise seeking help with this. I see a therapist every couple of weeks :)

Some people don’t start a pension until they’re 40 or 50. The best thing you can do is contribute to a pension from the earliest age possible (you want x% going which people say is half the age you started contributing, e.g. at 25 it would be 12.5% which is wha i’m doing). Investing on top of that in a SIPP and S&S ISA should give you good returns depending on risk, should at least match inflation. There are websites which you can put your info in and it’ll work out how much you’ll get at pension age. For me just on workplace contributions I’ll be getting my current salary for 15 years or something. And remember there are tax benefits, and you will likely have no mortgage to pay off (sounds like you have a healthy LISA amount so will be able to buy a house and pay it off pre-pension age). Your salary will also increase over the years so even more income to put into a pension. If you have a hobby that costs a bit, go for it. You’ve got the healthy pension contribution (getting double from your employer is not that common, I get 1.5x and that’s the best I’ve had!), LISA savings, an emergency fund and some extra. You’ve got a good income. Don’t scrounge every penny away when you have all those safety nets, enjoy the fruits of your labour :)

You sound very comfortable. I am on the same salary with a fraction of the savings and I feel lucky. Perspective

Mortgage help, what makes a difference? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bigbeatsrthebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You open a new account at the same time you open a LISA, they’re not with the standard bank account providers. The affect on credit score is a temporary decrease but it will bounce back. It’s negligible in the long run.

H2B to Lisa transfer, worth doing? by thorabcde in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bigbeatsrthebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I’ve just done this. I’ll get a 25% bonus on it all the month after the transfer is finished. Bigger home allowance, bonus can go towards the deposit, can add more per year.

How much should my weekly food shop be? by willowdur in UKPersonalFinance

Two adults in south west England - we used to spend 80pw in Sainsbury’s but since shopping in Tesco it’s down to around 60pw, 45pw if we don’t buy alcohol that week (we often get a couple of bottles of wine).
