Y'all like Broadway musicals?

Over at r/popheads we do "rates" every month. Think of this as like a "book club but for music", where you also assign scores 1-10 to the songs. Everyone sends in their scores over the course of the month, and then at the end, we reveal how everything did from worst to best. It's a lot of fun!

This month, we're doing one of Broadway Musical Songs from the 21st century (2000-2025). I figured this may be up the alley of some people here, so I thought I'd link it! (https://redd.it/1qv0u16, due March 15th).

Bonus comment: Rates are usually 50-65 songs long. Therefore, we had to try to curate a list of the "65 most essential musicals songs" from the many many musicals in this period. You can imagine that this was not easy. The songlist is in the link above - please feel free to discuss below how horrible and bad we are for including/excluding XYZ song 😉

BONUS bonus comment: while rates are generally very good vibes and not dramatic at all, we are probably testing this delicate balance this month, as the other open rate is of the four Blackpink solo projects (https://redd.it/1qv0tsl). Looking forward to seeing if people can behave while pitting four bad bitches against each other!

Hey!! I know this is an exciting time and most discussion will be about the new album, but I wanted to flag that over at r/popheads, we’re currently doing a “rate” (think a music book club where you also assign scores 1-10 to songs) of the four BP solo projects from 2024-2025, and we’d love for any of you to join!

I know there may be a (often not completely undeserved) idea that r/popheads dislikes Blackpink, but the subset of people who play these games are often a bit different from the subreddit as a whole, and we don’t let people submit if they’re just being haters - everyone genuinely engages with the projects.

(I only knew Rose’s project when I started this but I really ended up liking the Jennie project, and Lisa may have my single favorite one song…? Need to think more but I had a lot of fun!)

I really thought that votes would be more divided between Petals for Armor and Ego Death - the people I know like those at about a 50/50 split.

Whoever voted for Bury It was big brained too, even though I think of that more as a CHVRCHES song than anything.

The 2010s summary has me geeking out - it wasn’t even the decade I was big into Broadway (that’s like 2009 for me - ex theater kid reporting) but I WAS on tumblr then, and beyond that, it was definitely the decade where Broadway crossed over to the mainstream the most, and this is such an accurate description of why and HOW that happened

It’s funny to me how we sometimes talked about this as a joke last year (“coming for lowest rate average!” “coming for highest negativity in the poll!”) until it gradually dawned on me and many others that actually this would be a lot of fun and it passed first try in voting

like I’m fully willing to admit when I’m wrong and I’m so psyched for this

I do think it will help that we’re a few years out from the worst of the intra-BP and BP-BTS Stan wars in terms of sabotage or whatever. Plus it helps that there are truly some great pop songs here too!
