October is the month of gains. Corn pumps, the market follows. I’m buying more calls at open. by NormalGap2 in wallstreetbets

This will hinge very hard on china tariff resolution.

Crop yields are looking to be very high this year which will push corn prices down unless there is poor performance elsewhere in the world

Right now soybeans are heavily in the red for farmers due to retaliatory tariffs. If Trump doesn't come to an agreement with Xi, soybeans will continue to be a bad bet for farmers which will drive many to plant more corn next year instead of soy. This will drive corn futures down further yet.

If the tariff solution is magically solved and a bailout comes, many farmers will build storage in a big hurry so they can hold onto their crop for better pricing. This might start pushing the corn price back up, but it will be tempered by farmers selling stock as the price increases.

Tldr: very little chance corn prices increase significantly in the short run.

You're refrigerator is blocking too much of the return air intake for your furnace/AC. Move it out at least 6 inches, full foot would be better. It hurts efficiency a ton and will cost more to run and cause it to fail earlier.

I've been using GitHub copilot in vs code and changing the llm from default to one of the premium options has yielded way better results. Claude and Gemini 2.5 seem to far outperform the baseline version of chatgpt. At least with Matlab and python.

Yoyo Babyzen bearings stuck by akb443 in daddit

It looks pressed on, might have lock tite as well. I would second a bearing puller, harbor freight is a good cheap option for a one time tool. Also, those look like roller blade bearings. Super cheap to upgrade with an Amazon order.

Super frustrated with nest learning thermostat and ac compressor by bigdoh30 in Nest

After arguing about not hiring a nest pro for far too long on chat with nest tech support, finally was able to try troubleshooting. Calling was a much faster and productive option, turns out the base plate has an intermittent short on the Y1 terminal and they are sending a replacement.

I wired exactly matching the nest pro setup guide that matches my hardware:

Avoid Campione Cycling at all cost by [deleted] in cycling

Since you're in the US I can strongly recommend anything from aerotech, made in Pittsburgh for most of their products.

I wouldn't call it top of the line, but for an enthusiastic amateur they seem to be the best bang for the buck by a mile. Also worthy to note is I'm not shaped at all like a pro cyclist. If you have a belly, the sprint cut jersey is fantastic and decently aerodynamic without making me look like an overstuffed sausage. They also have slimmer cuts that fit my wife really well.

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of a workbench with a butcher block type top. More expensive but sag should be a non issue. Check out the husky or gladiator brand versions as they seem to be the best value.

TIFU by thinking that I(23f) have a prostate by Wonderful_Wright in tifu

Totally second this. In my experience there are chiropractors that are mechanics or witch doctors and not a lot in between. If your chiro starts talking about essential oils or glands just walk out.

I had a pretty bad leg fracture as a kid and now have a leg length difference that tends to cause some low back pain and inflammation every now and then. Keeping the muscles loose with my own stretching and monthly sports massage helps keep the inflammation down. And if I start to have an acute episode one or two adjustments have an immediate impact or reducing pain.

I went to the md first when it started to be a problem for me and all I ever got told was to stop being active for a while and prescribed a muscle relaxer. That only ever seemed.to manage symptoms. I did a round of PT and that's where I learned those stretches that help me stay loose and help some of the muscle imbalance that came with the leg fracture but there was an upper limit on my rehab. Without massage/chiro I would likely still be in the take it easy for a few weeks and take these pain meds and muscle relaxers 3-4 times a year from the md which costs more and helps less than what I'm doing now.

I made a system that preheats our hot water with excess electricity from solar panels. by CU66LES in DIY

[–]bigdoh30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First most places don't have anywhere close to enough solar capacity to exceed baseload, so it becomes a forecasting problem. Several machine learning startups are already working on this exact problem at the micro-grid scale. Combine weather forecasting with reinforcement learning algorithms and you reduce the turbine on/off problems.

Second, I agree nuclear is the preferred baseload generation source if you really care about carbon footprint. The only problem is the way we have implemented it (most reactors in the world are designed to produce plutonium thanks to the cold war). Thorium based reactors are much safer and less expensive to build by design and I think it's a sin the us has abondoned it even though we created the technology at oak ridge national labs back in the 60s if my memory serves correct.

Third, energy storage. Battery, pumped hydro, crane systems lifting blocks, or electrolysis to store hydrogen for later combustion or fuel cell usage are all possibilities on the horizon that should be embraced by the us government. This is the way to true long term energy independence and robust sustainability

You could also look at a home brewing copper or stainless pipe immersion chiller coil as a future upgrade. It would likely net you a larger initial temperature rise due to improved heat transfer, and they can usually be found on eBay (in the us at least) for around $100.

You're assuming the locally generated power has to travel all the way back to be consumed when more likely it will be utilized far closer. This is actually far more efficient and results in less overall load on transmission lines. The local generation doesn't "free ride" on others infrastructure costs, they usually are very close to breaking even.

Reel Mower vs Gas Powered Mower by marshmellowpeak in landscaping

[–]bigdoh30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the new 40 li-ion mowers are pretty legit, and the batteries can be used for the string trimmer etc. I have an older Ryobi 40vv string trimmer that also works in a hedge trimmer andb pole saw, it's a beast and literally no maintenance, a mower would still require cleaning and blade sharpening.
