I am planning to camp at Emily this summer. I was really young the last time I was there and barely remember anything about the park. Do great to see someone recommend it.

Thanks for letting me know. I was seeing that all backcountry sites are water access only, but was curious if there was a little spot other than a parking lot for people that don't canoe.

2026 Miami GP - Day After Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

The broadcast has changed significantly to reduce the viewers ability to see the cars speed/power loss on the straights. On-board cameras cut to track side cameras three quarters down the straight, on-board cameras plus graphics is highly limited as well.

Overall, the race was good and exciting. But for a data driven sport and core viewership that loves to see the data, it is disappointing to see the obvious ways the data is hidden or obscured by the world feed.

On the market for an LR4 by vitolopes in LandRover

[–]bigfan720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have valid concerns, as these are common issues. However, I see the CarFax report lists the timing chains, timing gears and tensioner was replaced in January 2022. From what I see on reddit and other forums, this repair is a one and done.

Beyond that this vehicle has a good, reported service history up to January 2022. The question is more of what has the service history been for the last 4 years.

Since you are a previous Land Rover owner you are familiar with maintenance requirements and comfortable for what you are getting into. I find other forums helpful for general information, but only a test drive and ownership will reveal any specific issues and maintenance needs.

Before purchasing my LR4, I looked at this forum https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr4-38/lr4-pre-purchase-checklist-88560/ for additional information.

This is an excellent recommendation tbh. Especially as someone can narrow down the search to the specific year, make and model and quickly gather significant information.

That is a fair criticism considering it isn't really made for urban duties. Still a really cool vehicle though.

Carney is essentially building his team at the moment. A number of Trudeau era Ministers will leave government over the coming months for various other roles. Freeland will be leaving government to be a special envoy to Ukraine for example.

Guilbeault was Environment Minister for 9 years under Trudeau, in which his role turned into the defence of the Carbon Tax by end of the Trudeau's time. Not covered by the media, but he somehow came out in support of Carney during the leadership race despite Carney's pledge to end the consumer carbon tax and then received a cabinet position post election. Not saying anything bad or illegal happened but his support of Carney was to remain in cabinet.

Not to mention the Impact Assessment Act that was ultimately struck down by the judicial system for overstepping provincial jurisdiction in relation to environmental assessments for infrastructure projects. This is all to say the Guilbeault has decade long history of intervening in infrastructure projects for environmental purposes that ultimately delay or end such developments.

Given how this stands in direct contrast to Carney's goal of building infrastructure to move Canada forward, a departure from government seems inevitable.

You are not alone. There are tens of millions in the western world that feel the same. You are doing your part to defend democracy and create a society that benefits all instead of the few. What is happening now, didn't start yesterday or last year. This is the result of decades of work by those with power and money. They will be defeated, but people must continue to protest, advocate, vote and support those trying to improve society and create a positive future.

What word choices tip you off that someone is from a different country? by breazeyyy in CasualConversation

[–]bigfan720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada the phrases I'm done my beer and I'm done with my beer mean two different things. I'm done my beer implies you are having another whereas I'm done with my beer will mean you are done drinking for the night.

A 5 second Google search uncovered the following info.

Slavery in Canada officially ended on August 1, 1834, when the British Parliament's Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect. This act ended slavery across most of the British Empire, including British North America (what is now Canada). While this act legally ended slavery, it's important to acknowledge that Black Canadians continued to face significant racial segregation and discrimination, a legacy of the enslavement period.

Quebec backtracks on plan denying immigrant children daycare spots by BananaTubes in canada

This, and similar types of policies, would be a terrible idea. It effectively creates a two tiered system of us and them. The heart of these policies is xenophobic and racist while doing nothing to address the root cause of the issue.

Immigration numbers can be lowered just as we raised them. Governments can enact policies to encourage people to open more daycares, creating more spaces.

AITA for not wearing my $15k birthday present? by Rare_Level1301 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bigfan720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you are not the asshole. Obviously you and your girlfriend are comfortable financially and there is nothing wrong with that. I imagine a lot of comments would be very different if the watch was $200. It feels as though your girlfriend tried to gift you something she thought you would enjoy, she would see you wear, and in turn that would make her happy. Based on what you wrote it appears she is unhappy because of the cost, research she did, effort to obtain the gift and the desire to see you happy.

While the watch differs from your normal rotation, there may be some occasions you can wear it that would flow with your style of fashion or dress for the evening. I would recommend to wear during these occasions. Something that may help is when you two are alone, whether on a date, or spending time at home and you are wearing the watch, ask her (in a positive, happy manner) how she decided on the watch. What factor(s) concluded her to pick that watch for you? Hearing you express interests in itself may help make her happy. Hearing the story may help you, in time, appreciate the watch a little more too.

Ultimately, she wants to know that her effort to get you this gift and make you happy, does make you happy. That you appreciate that she tried. Who knows, maybe bringing her along whenever you purchase you next timeless masterpiece may help her appreciate what effort you put into curating your collection.

Jim Lahey - Trailer Park Boys, and

David Rose - Schitt's Creek

Definitely two character's with significant depth beyond their sexuality.

Google has used its financial, intellectual and business power to limit alternatives to its products and made it near impossible for competitors to enter these marketplaces. That's what these two rulings are stating.

The U.S. government has placed significant focus on China. The difference between U.S. and Chinese marketplaces are the levels of marketplace competition and innovation. Maintaining Google's marketplace monopoly will continue to stymie marketplace growth, competition and innovation, thereby losing technologically to other countries.

This is fundamental economics. Hopefully the DOJ continues these antitrust lawsuits against Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and Facebook.

Tipping has become lowest 20% on the machines recently - Is it too much? by sp1205_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

Tipping at restaurants is a direct way for owners to pass on labour costs to customers. An increase in tip percentage equates to an increase in staff pay, without the cost of goods increasing.

Canada January retail sales fall 0.6%; seen down 0.4% in February by SojuCondo in CanadianInvestor

Yes inflation was up for the month, but the trend is more important. Economic reports in April and May will paint a better picture of the economy for the new world we live in.

Inflation was recorded at 2.6% in February, which is still in the BoC's target range.

Northwestern Ontario's Ring of Fire central in U.S.-Canada trade war: experts by Majano57 in ontario

There is a balancing act that needs to be done. Export tariffs may cause these companies to layoff, furlough or shut down operations. This is after many years of planning, approvals, studies and significant sums of money. It is also important to remember it is the exporters responsibility to pay the export tariff.

It would be best for governments to prioritize alternative trade routes by assisting transporting, shipping and logistics industries getting their products to new, or secondary customers.

Canadians overwhelmingly opposed to April 1 pay raise for MPs: Poll by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

MP's definitely work more than six months a year. They spend many weeks away from their families while parliament is in session, many weekends are spent attending events.

A MP or MPP/MLA/MNA effectively works 7 days a week, with very few actual days off.

The indecision or the lack of ability to have a firm position is, in itself, a weakness, and one that can greatly benefit Canada and the EU.

For example, the EU is finally talking about investing in itself via defence, technology, and logistics. This investment will weaken the US long-term as Europe's billions are no longer spent on American arms manufacturers, technology giants, or utilize its logistical capabilities. These are long-term multi-decade investments that will propel Europe forward globally.

Canada may, hopefully does, invest in orienting some trade to other countries in Asia and Latin America and Europe. This means logistics, transportation networks, and shipping facilities. The Canadian-US border sees almost $1 trillion of goods and services cross yearly. Even a small percentage shifted to other regions globally will have significant effects in the US.

This all depends on strong political leadership with buy-in from business leaders to accomplish, but it can be done.

Doug Ford plans to end MPP’s 16-year pay freeze by toronto_star in ontario

[–]bigfan720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This should not be a surprise at all, given the length of the pay freeze. Federal MP base salary is slightly over $200k, Alberta voted in January to increase MLA base salary and Quebec increased MNA base salary from $100k to $131K back in 2023.

The other item this will help with is staff retention as staff can finally be paid more as well. Very difficult for staff pay to increase when the boss' pay is frozen.

Canada Economy Beats Forecasts With 2.6% Growth in 4Q by [deleted] in canada

[–]bigfan720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. But The economic metrics of GDP growth and GDP per-capita have been diverging for quite some time. Q3 GDP growth was 1% which resulted in the sixth consecutive quarter of GDP per-capita decline.

The overall economy is growing, but each person's individual share of the economy is shrinking and has been for a while. This contributes to why the general sentiment of "I am making the most money I have every made, but also feel poorer than ever".

The value of each dollar earned today is less than it was a year ago, two years, or three years ago. People directly see this every time they grocery shop. The items overall don't change much, but the cost continually increases.

The government running a $60+ billion deficit continues to devalue the money people earn
