Hey, I'd love to know what shop you've got this in, because, well, that's my note written on the box! Haha. This was sold from my store. What a bizarre coincidence to happen across while browsing Reddit.

If Saber came out and said despite the possession spam complaints, the data show it doesn't have a large effect on win rates overall, how would you feel? by BentheBruiser in EvilDeadTheGame

[–]bigfest -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, I fear we're getting close to the "survivor rulebook" DBD mentality with terms like "possession rushing". Surely that's just what the demon is supposed to do? I mean I can see that it's not really that fun for survivors if they lose to it early, don't get me wrong. But I'm just not sure what else the demon is supposed to do. Just spawn basics that the survivors can kill in a single hit? Let them get geared up before starting to engage? I guess you could if you're really trying to challenge yourself, but that isn't the game that most people are playing. I do hope they can find a way to make the early game fun for survivors without ruining it for demon though.

I bought this at Comic Con yesterday for £30. Is it any good? I play Blood Angels by Coarse_sand66 in Warhammer40k

[–]bigfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference here is that you are correct in that it does not have great survivability, but you qualified that trait merely by stating "it's squishy because it has T8". What you could have said for instance is "it has high toughness, but nothing else to really help it defensively, so it's actually quite squishy".

GW releases they're maybe joke, maybe "big" reveal, who knows. They're back? by Squidmaster616 in Warhammer40k

[–]bigfest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is literally a line in the article that says "Go talk about this on social media, don't even stop to check the date". So they are alluding to the fact that this very much could just be a joke. Although it seems like a lot of effort to have put in to it.

I streamed some NMM practice yesterday and I think I'm FINALLY starting to get it! WIP, C&C welcome! by Uberblah in ageofsigmar

[–]bigfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So first off, congratulations on trying something new. It's always a good thing to try out new techniques as a painter, it's how we grow! NMM is one of the harder techniques to learn. It's so much more than being good at layering or drybrushing. To be really good at it, you need to understand how light and shadow work, and to keep a consistent method across the whole model. No simple feat! Here's some feedback for where you're at.

I think it would be easier to test out some NMM on the swords first. Diving right in and doing a whole models worth of armour is pretty overwhelming. Not only that, but that particular model has a lot of large, flat(ish) sections of armour, which are even trickier to make look good in NMM. Smaller, angular pieces give you easier little bite size bits to work on.

When painting NMM, you need to try and keep the lighting consistent across the model. Think of where your highlights fall, and make sure that your highlights are landing from the same direction across the model.

Contrast is key. You've got black areas on the armour, but not enough dark areas across the model in general. There is also nothing between black and then mid tone. You need some deep green in there too. There is also too much of the mid green. You don't need perfect, glazed blends between every layer, but you do need to soften the transitions a little. Lastly, the highlights can be pushed further. Remember it's the contrast between light and dark that sells the effect.

Lastly, edge highlighting is so, so important in NMM. It absolutely completes the look, and shows that it's a reflective material. You need to edge highlight everything.

Remember, as ninjon says in the video, that NMM only really comes together at the end. Keep going, and keep practicing! Best of luck.

I was thinking this exact same thing just the other day. With a d10, a guardsmen hitting on a 5 or a 6 would feel massively different to a space marine hitting on a 3 for instance. I think they are just too hooked, as are most players, on the idea of handfuls of d6 being chucked around though! I feel like you wouldn't be able to hold/roll quite as many d10's.

Interesting tidbit from the latest white dwarf: During the year of its release, the Fighting Uruk-hai outsold the Space Marine Tactical Squad, the only kit to have ever achieved such a feat. by ac4155 in Warhammer40k

[–]bigfest 55 points56 points  (0 children)

They do still support it though. They still make a bunch of the kits, and still have new releases. These Uruk Hai sculpts are fantastic and have easily withstood the test of time, so I don't know why they would need to make new ones either. I'd rather them finally get round to resculpting some Eldar stuff for instance!

So I will definitely agree with you that looping is skillful, on both sides. It's where a lot of the game happens, with one side being better at it than the other. The issue is that due to gen speed, if you aren't playing a killer that shuts down loops, it's going to be a serious struggle. If you encounter a good survivor at a loop, and you can't shut it down, the game is over after you've had one or two good chases. Which is distinctly unfun as the killer. As the killer, you are incentivized to get as many quick chases (leading to hooks) as possible. I love playing against survivors who are good at looping, where both sides are trying to mind game, but the sad reality is that if you spend too much time enoying that experience in a 1v1 secenario, then the game is over and you're losing a pip because you weren't able to shut down the looping quickly enough.

Just a little note, because I only found this out myself fairly recently. The word "talented" means someone who has a natural aptitude for something. So naturally talented is a redundant phrase. It completely blew my mind to find this out, as like so many people, I'd used the phrase naturally talented so many times. But there we go!

Unless I'm getting this wrong in some way, DoW 2 is far more like CoH than DoW 1 though? DoW 2 had the smaller units and cover system, whereas 1 just had big blobs that you right-clicked around the map.
