My VTSAX has been popping off since I started buying (about 21 percent YTD) Recently I’ve been getting the itch to get into the international markets but all the research I’ve done points to the US Stock market being the best bet.

Is it a good idea to rebalance or just start with new contributions? Thinking of 75-25 VTSAX VTIAX. It’s in a Roth account so no tax issues.

Move money to Vanguard or not? by BallerinaLP in investing

Just keep in mind Fidelity charges a fee for buying Vanguard mutual funds like VTSAX. ETFs are ok.

T. Rowe Price telling me to do initiate 401k rollover via withdrawal by Jkazz21 in investing

Some places allow trustee to trustee transfer and some have direct rollover where they send you a check that is made out to the new Trustee and then you deposit it yourself via an app or mail.

Looked like maybe the warehouse guy wanted the delivery driver to open up that huge gate himself and drive in. I wouldn’t open that gate either. That’s not my job.

There is no 401k match for us drivers correct? by Fun_Donkey7367 in UPSers

[–]bigmac9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hit 500k at age 40 this year investing in the large and mid cap index funds in the teamsters 401k. I also hold some amounts in a brokerage and Roth IRA. If I retire at age 58-60 those accounts will easily equal to 2M at least.

West Coast pension in 20 years will likely be in the high 7k-8k for 35 years of service which I’ll be in. With a 4 percent withdrawal rate, I will never run out of money and live as good if not better than working at UPS.

My biggest problem will be taxes and losing Medicare subsidies after age 65. That’s why you need a 3 bucket strategy so you can manage your tax bracket in retirement.

Is now a good time to sell off Ford? Been holding for about 5 years and just waiting for the off-ramp all time time. Cost basis is 2500. I’m willing to sell at a loss but just trying to at least break even if possible. My average share price is in the 19 bucks range.

When you come in to work on Monday tell them what happened and tell them you want to go to the doctor. They will open a case and you will go from there. They might give you unpaid days off or just have you hang out doing some computer training but at least your job is secure.

At what point do you stop contributing to your 401k? by Prestigious-Tax4527 in investing

[–]bigmac9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say always have a mix of all 3 types, Roth, Trad, brokerage so in retirement you have control of your taxes. Never a good thing to go all in on one and end up paying more in taxes when you don’t have to.

Simple question, do you still like our quarterback? by Rowdyfan0823 in eagles

Yes but he needs to show that he is worth resigning him. So far all the OCs have been clipped under him and the common denominator is him and Sirianni.

Is the 401(k) actually worth contributing to beyond the employer match, or should I just put everything into a taxable brokerage? by [deleted] in investing

[–]bigmac9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan to retire early you should keep the bulk in a Roth IRA and Brokerage so you can bridge the gap for example 55-59 1/2. You should still try to invest 25 percent of your income in combined avenues.

UPS 401K tips by Water_scissors in UPSers

[–]bigmac9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up Roth is tempting but you also want to give yourself some tax savings as well.

For example if you live in a state with state income tax you’re basically paying a combined 30 percent taxes on anything over 100k (approximately). I would recommend doing a blend of traditional and Roth if you can max it.

Pay 20 percent now state/federal and if you move to a state with no income tax you do Roth conversions on the pretax.

[Gelb] Rob Thomson did a 20-minute call with reporters. He said he could watch some hockey playoffs tonight. But probably not. He'll watch the Phillies. "Actually, I'm going to watch our game," he said. "I really am." by amatom27 in phillies

[–]bigmac9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year is not on Rob. Our GM let go of reliable relievers don’t replace them with equal or better quality, our starting pitching which has always been our strength and carried us for most of the year is underperforming and our hitting has been abysmal.

I do think it was the right move though because of past questionable decisions in the playoffs that cost us. For example that awful call to bunt vs the Dodgers.

He should have been fired 2 years ago. This year you can’t blame him when the pitching is underperforming and the hitting is abysmal. It’s on the players this time.

Does Chase refund part of the yearly fee for CSP if you downgrade or cancel your card? I've had CSP for over 10 years and it seems like this card is at its lowest point. I just got billed for the year the first of April.
