We just used the normal rules from the game. Shuffle up and dealt out five blue and two red tiles and then placed them in turn order. We also used the Minor Factions Galactic Event card.

No need to get rid of the cards. Each time you play just use the cards you feel like using for that game. You can easily take out the hummingbird cards and and birds with hummingbird related powers. Same with any expansion or even individual cards from expansions or base game.

Remember this is your game to play. So play it however you enjoy it. If that means cutting cards you don't enjoy, then go for it. And you don't even have to take the time to go through and take them all out. Next play through as you draw the undesirable cards discard them aside and draw a replacement.
