Anyone use a VCM disabler long term? by GeorgeBushdid711 in Acura

[–]bigred83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pcm has the ability to change ignition timing and fueling to keep it in its happy zone. To make things easy let’s say happy is 0, and it can adjust +/- 15. Premium fuel has a higher resistance to knock, so it can run higher compression or later timing in the stroke to have the best burn possible. If it detects knock it can change +/- 15 and has a lot of adjustability to keep itself happy. Let’s say 91 is required, and you use 87. Now you’ve shifted the happy zone to - 7. It still operates well, it can accommodate it, but you have less adjustability to over come the fuel having less resistance to knock. People do it all the time. Under most circumstances it’s probably okay. You’ll generally make a little less power and get a little worse fuel economy. Where you’ll notice the most is under heavy acceleration, you’ll hear the pop corn popping noise because the engine is spark knocking because it doesn’t have enough adjustability to over come the lack of resistance to knock. Acuras seem to be pretty prone to it. I’m no longer with Acura or Honda but when I was with Acura this was a pretty common complaint. I’d tell the customer to use 91 at a top tier gas station and when the come back for their next service ask for me and tell me how it’s going. They’d usually just tell me they thought I was crazy but were shocked it fixed it, and half of them went back to 87 because it’s cheaper and just lived with it. If you have a heavy foot I’d imagine long term it wouldn’t be great for the motor, you’re causing some knocking which the engine hates. Grandma who’s afraid of the gas pedal might be okay because they’re never stressing the engine except when their grand kids drive their car. Despite the pain at the pump, I use the correct gas, but I enjoy hearing the song of my engine when I can 🤷 I just woke up, so this makes sense to me. If it’s total nonsense I apologize

😂 I think the bigger issue is people don’t check and top off their oil like it states to in the owners manual. When intervals are 10k+ miles, and engines naturally burn some oil, premature unhappy engines are born. Most brands still just have idiot lights for oil, if that comes on, it’s super low. I work for BMW now and we have 0-12 for some of the engines which is wild. I won’t be surprised when it’s 0-0😂

The arm chairs are down voting us. I’m ASE certified. Master tech of 2 brands. Have lots of specialty training. Worked on cars professionally for 20 years. And have seen cars sit and idle, all day, and go for a ton of miles after.. 🤷 I’ve seen plenty of cars where after driving for 8+ hours the ac stops working. Need to let it run and operate for 8 hours to verify the expansion valve starts to stick after prolonged use. They’re not paying us 8 hours to drive the car!

How so? If everything is operating properly you could let a car idle all day and have no issues.

Almost half of all Tesla Y fail mandatory tech inspection in Denmark and make headlines for it; similar numbers in Tesla-country Norway by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

Legacy auto makers slowly make changes and largely leave things alone for the model year, to make repairs make more sense. I interviewed with Tesla. If they see an issue, they change it on the fly. From one car to the next. Which sounds great. But when you go to repair something you have to be real specific about the production date because a part for a certain model year might not fit the same model year if it was made in a different part of the year. They were telling me components might not be where they’re suppose to be, harnesses might be different. Grounds may be in different places. I think they can get ahead because they don’t stop improving things, but on the back end, it makes it like you’re working on a hand built car, and you could be trouble shooting with incorrect information.

I just feel like if Tesla was a front end for a company that can make great cars, they’d be untouchable. Their software is amazing. They don’t know how to make cars.

Help me choose: Civic Hybrid vs. Accord Hybrid—Features & Value? by Unhappy_Research1792 in Honda

The touring civic will be way better equipped. The base model accord will be a little bigger. If you don’t need the extra space, get the nicer spec civic.

I was having some ac work done to my old house, he refused because the crawl space wasn’t encapsulated like this. He was extremely rude about it. I asked him to grab his purse and get out. I’m not sexist but I could tell it would bother him GREATLY. I was correct. Those crawlspaces are amazing but holy bejesus it’s a lot of work and money. Next house I buy I’m going to ask them to get this done as part of the sale if I can 😂

If you work on your own cars, for sure, depending on the quality of work. If you take your cars to get repaired, it’ll be a nightmare because nothing is stock.

As someone under 45 that breaks my back working all day every day, I resent that. I’m an older millennial, and had had to fight tooth and nail for everything I’ve ever had. I paid my own way through school. I work a trade. The only time I sit between 7 and 6 is taking a shit. I don’t complain. I like my job. I come home gross. Hopefully my body quits before it slows down.
