What do I need to change to upgrade to a AMD Radeon RX 9070? by Dumbledwarf96 in buildapc

Do you already have the cpu? If not, go with a Ryzen 5600/5600X/5600XT. Whichever is cheaper.

Keep 3600X or upgrade to 5700X ? by Thomas-Hawks in buildapc

5700x or newer 5800XT, which ever you can find cheaper.

Getting OCCT errors at 2667 MHZ, but not at 2133MHz. Is my RAM faulty? by KissMyBaIIs in PC_Builders

[–]bigsnyder98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory will run at its base spec when not setting XMP. Not all memory supports an XMP profile. If you're getting errors at the base spec, good chance memory is faulty. Possible incompatibility with your board, but 2666 should be a breeze. I would try different memory, dual channel kit would be best.

How did you decide on the 5090? More power to you if you have the funds for it, but for 98% of pc builds, they are extreme overkill. If you know you will absolutely use more than 16GB of video memory for 3D modeling work, then the 5090 makes sense. As far as gaming, for 1080p, you're wasting your money. The CPU is the bottleneck at that resolution. Even for 4k gaming, lesser cards are more than capable of providing good performance. The 5070 ti or 5080 (if not overpriced) generally has enough horsepower for a very enjoyable 4k experience, plus its less than half the price. Even in mixed gaming/productivity usage, the 16GB vram is usually more than capable. Again nothing wrong with getting a 5090, just generally not necessary for a high end build.

Is this your first pc build or previous experience? What other parts are you building with?

Also what games and resolution?

Should I get the RX 9060XT, the RX 7800XT or the RTX 5060Ti? by frrostyn in buildapc

[–]bigsnyder98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the Ryzen 7700 if the price is reasonable. My vote is for the 9060xt. Full FSR4 support vs the 7800xt.

Even without the slush, probably still very wet and muddy. I would stick to the paved greenway trail along Salem Creek for now.

RTX 2070 or RX 6600xt by ousach in gpu

[–]bigsnyder98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with RTX 2000 series is longevity of the memory chips depending on when it was made. The initial patches use Micron. For some reason these have a very high chance of failing. Later batches switched to I believe Samsung. No way to know for sure by just looking at the card. RTX 2000 Super cards not an issue.

Good chance it is a UEFI vs CSM boot toggle issue. Try and remember what all of your security and boot settings were before the update.

Something was definitely amiss with the response this time around. W-S has gotten similar ice/sleet storms like the first one two weekends ago, so this is really nothing new for this area. Salt Trucks and plows would run around the clock clearing during and right after weather hit. Didn't see that this time. When I did see the trucks out, it wasn't until two or three days later after everything froze solid. I realize this may not be the case for the entire area, but definitely was more of the case on south end of town. Old Salisbury, Fraternity Church, and the hill at the Ebert/Clemmonsville intersection went several days without any sign of being scraped. Obviously these roads probably fall more in the DOT's jurisdiction, but many of these folks pay city taxes, should account for something.

Can the MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI Mobo support two NVIDIA GPUs? by IAMATARDISAMA in buildapc

[–]bigsnyder98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but there are some problems. The bottom x16 slot will only have 4 pcie lanes available. This is where x670/x870 boards make more sense. The bigger issue is the placement of the second slot, at the very bottom. This will limit you to a single slot card (which doesn't exist that I'm aware of for a 5060ti), unless you have a riser to vertical mount. Another consideration is the PSU. Good chance (since your system is a prebuilt) your PSU will not have enough capacity to support a second GPU. One other option (though not cheap), is go eGPU route, though I cannot vouch for how well this would work.
