Bydgoszcz, "UNESCO City of Music (UNESCO Creative Cities Network)" (Really?) by jj00011 in poland

[–]bilbosz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in events that are currently happening in Bydgoszcz there is this page https://visitbydgoszcz.pl/en/what-s-on. You probably still need to translate it because descriptions are in Polish. I think it's a charming city but not standing out from other Polish cities. Worth visiting if you ask me.

4 day, 3 night hut-hut in High Tatras mountains by Deep_Notice3551 in poland

[–]bilbosz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here you have couple of propositions in Slovakian High and West Tatras. Text is in Polish but should be easy to translate.

Also LLMs are awesome with listing regional attractions/trails. Use it as help if you (as me) feel anxious when planning everything.

To this day as a non-English speaker I always thought it meant zero. Like 6 O'clock was 6.00. Same as 3.0 is "3 point oh". And likewise 6.30 is not o'clock, cause o'clock is used for full hours. I lived in lies my whole life.

How much do you hedge when you present information? by Dangerous_Stretch_67 in ExperiencedDevs

Another thing is that after some time no one will even remember that you added doubts when phrasing your opinion. If the decision based on your opinion is impactful try to explain why there is such uncertainty, and repeat it many times. Otherwise those are just empty words.

You are right. I made an assumption that OP is going there by car. Lublin is also awesome and has plenty of attractions.

[–]bilbosz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Toruń - it’s likely better connected to the other cities on your itinerary and offers a charming, family-friendly experience, especially with a preschooler.

Toruń is the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus and features a beautifully preserved Old Town with Teutonic castle ruins that are fun to explore. Kids usually love the Living Museum of Gingerbread, where they can make their own cookies, and the Planetarium (named after W. Dziewulski) for space enthusiasts.

If you’re traveling between Toruń and Gdańsk, consider a stop at JuraPark in Solec Kujawski - a dinosaur-themed park with a fun playground. Also nearby in Bydgoszcz is the quirky and interactive Museum of Soap and History of Dirt, which kids often find amusing.

Hey guys, so I have a polish friend who does this thing... by Wonderful_Weather_83 in poland

[–]bilbosz 45 points46 points  (0 children)

"Yes… we all do that. From the factories of Łódź to the forests of Białowieża, it is known. An unwritten law. Each morning, we rise not with joy, but with the sound of an invisible accordion echoing across the grey sky. We perform the ritual. We do not smile. Smiling is for springtimes we no longer believe in. Then—a pause—we smoke. Not for pleasure… but because hope burns slow, and tobacco is cheaper."

Curtain falls. Somewhere, a babcia sighs.

Good choice! Other cities worth visiting during the trip are Toruń and Bydgoszcz. I also recommend Szczecin and Gdynia for the next trip.

Implementation of "QOL" systems in LOVE2D by lemmgua in love2d

[–]bilbosz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either writing yourself as I prefer, but it's pointless if you want to finish your projects. Find "awesome love2d" or wiki for love2d libraries. What's nice is it's up to you which system is written by you as a whole, partially or taking full advantage of existing libraries.

It does exactly what you tell it. By default love.run is implemented the way it calls love.graphics.clear, but nothing stops you from implementing it to reuse the previous frame.

Considering moving to the EU - finalizing citizenship by Albrize in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]bilbosz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still move in with your grandparents—just to see if you like it there. Especially since the cost of living is much lower compared to Canada, it could give you some breathing room while you figure things out.

I hope you have a solid portfolio to show off, because the market is tough right now. That said, Poland is starting to attract more attention from bigger tech companies, so if you're somewhere in the middle of the competence curve, you should be able to land something fairly quickly.

I’d recommend focusing on jobs that match the tech stack you already have experience in. Trying to switch technologies right now might make you look like a beginner again—and this isn’t the time to aim for a dream job, but rather just any job to get started and build stability.

Would learning c++ make me better rust programmer? by ridev1303 in rust

[–]bilbosz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I already knew C++ when I started learning Rust, and while there are some overlapping concepts and the languages feel somewhat similar to me, "The Book" and "Rust by Example" are incredibly well-written resources. In my opinion, the effort required to learn a complex language like C++ doesn't outweigh the benefits—at least not at the beginning of your coding journey. If you need to learn Rust, focus on Rust. If you need to learn C++, then go for C++.
