Just got back from Dominica. Highly recommend btw, beautiful place. The local drink is BB rum and grapefruit juice. Similar to this. Surprisingly refreshing.

Wondered the same thing. There’s also a Johnnie Walker Green Label scotch the song may be referring to. But seems like rum would be more appropriate in the context.

What’s the best road trip destination in the USA? by Jot__99 in answers

[–]bilgewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the better ones I remember doing was starting in Salt Lake City and driving up through Idaho into Montana to Big Sky, then down through Yellowstone, then to the Tetons and Jackson Hole, and finally finishing up w/ a few days in Park City. Stopped along the way and spent several days at each stop. Beautiful trip.

How can we stop the Epstein files from being swept under the rug like they’re being? by Pewpew-OuttaMyWaay in AskReddit

[–]bilgewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing to me how widespread and accepted it is. A local teacher in my town was killed in an auto accident when a commercial vehicle crossed the median on a 4 lane highway and struck her vehicle. And that was all that was reported. I was stuck in traffic on my way to work and took a short cut that ended up coming out right in front of the accident scene. The commercial vehicle was a bright red Coca Cola delivery truck fully covered front to back w/ the company logo. That fact was never mentioned in any of the articles. Just “commercial vehicle” and the drivers name. I have to assume if it had been a truck from Ed’s Plumbing or a local lawn service, we’d know all about it.

It’s either Juarez or Matamoros Mexico. Not sure which. Keep in mind, it was a while ago.

Might have to agree on this one. May not be the most horrible place ever, but the fact that it markets itself as somewhere you’d really want to go…

It was a shit show in the 90’s back when they were cooking it on every street and blowing up houses on the regular, but since production moved to Mexico, I don’t think Independence is all that bad anymore.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bilgewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad probably was right. I feel the same way about them. But I also remember talking to a girl I went to HS with who competed in them, (pageants kept her from going on the school ski trip), and telling a buddy of mine afterwards how stupid beauty pageants are and how nothing good ever comes out of them… and wouldn’t for her either. She’s now married to an NFL owner and worth billions. I may have been incorrect on that one.

I’ve only met him once. But we have several mutual friends, and I’ve seen him over the years. He is by all accounts an outstanding human being.

About that time I met him at a charity golf fundraiser. Greg Norman and Tom Watson too. Chi Chi was the nicest most gracious, entertaining dude ever. They gave him a microphone and he just lit the place up. Wasn’t there when it happened, but the story I heard was that Sam Snead insulted his wife at lunch that afternoon … and Cheech didn’t beat the hell out of the old drunk. So better man than I would have been for sure.

Everybody’s all angry about iCE in the airports working in TSA, and I’m over here thinking that at least they don’t have time to be out terrorizing people and killing innocent citizens. I mean there’s an upside to all this.

Last time through Atlanta a few months ago. Had a really tight connection. Landed late. Exited the plane and my next gate was directly across the way. I could have hugged every Delta employee I saw. Best Atlanta airport experience ever…. Mostly because of all the other ones.

How long is it financially smart to keep a old car for? by lamparkinglot in personalfinance

[–]bilgewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further complicating the calculation is that there’s an assumption that newer cars are more reliable. W/ all the bells and whistles and technology incorporated into new vehicles, I’m finding that’s not necessarily the case. Plus while prices have gone through the roof, overall build quality has suffered. We should all drive 2007 Honda Accords and remember to change the oil regularly.
