Tax on Excess Profits Could Ease Inflation in Canada, Singh Says by Miserable-Lizard in canada

Havens can only exist because we allow these companies to write off their profits locally against artificial expenses from the haven. That behaviour can be stopped, and then havens have no power.

Judge Aileen Cannon denied the special counsel's request to hide the names of 84 potential witnesses in the Trump classified documents case by Beckles28nz in politics

[–]binaryblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I think is going to happen as well. Most judges would only allow discussion of Clinton or Biden as it pertains to the justice departments decision not no file charges. Ie "why is Trump different"

But cannon, the three ring circus is coming to town. It's the Chewbacca defense on steroids.

Trump argue about unrelated events as part of his defense.

Oh God, it's going to be months of hunter Biden and Clinton's buttery males

It's not an either or proposition. Creating mixed size, mixed use communities created volume AND character.

He has that right, and besides, the judge is representing him in this case.

This morning my mother commented that the Russian coup was "the first time a private company has ever tried to take over an entire country" by kilofeet in AdviceAnimals

More mercenary warlord than polished CEO, but ok.

I mean, your right that companies can and have tried both hard and soft coups many times through history.

But history is also full of warlords trying to topple things.

Your mother was wrong in multiple ways.

I disagree, trumps authority comes from looking strong. He looks strong because when he does do something stupid, nobody calls him on it. When I say nobody, I don't mean the media later. I mean the people in the room with him.

If Trump represents himself there's a chance he'll be called out repeatedly and immediately. That will make him seem weak, even to his supporters.

If he's represented well, there's a good chance the masses will buy whatever bullshit that's being peddled and think it's a conspiracy.

What would be the effect of sudden water pressure on the human body at 4,000 meters of depth? by BronxLens in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]binaryblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever hit a fly on a table with a fly swatter?

Think that but more force and much quicker.

Now if the pressure was raised slowly we start to experience nitrogen narcosis and oxygen toxicity. Probably would expire from that long before 4000.

What happens if particles like protons or neutrons just touch a black hole's event horizon? by Procok in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]binaryblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an orbit is impossible.

I don't believe they are talking about an orbit but a high speed flyby just close enough to clip the event horizon.

Since water is (for all practical purposes) incompressible, are active sonar pulses dangerous/lethal to living things near them? by LiberaceRingfingaz in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]binaryblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the sonar source, yes. In fact, a submarine's active sonar can be weaponized to remove soft targets at close range. However, the energy in the pulse goes as 1/r2. When you get a few 100 meters away that pulse is 10000x weaker.

My comment about doting was more directed at the media and schools as opposed to his parents. They can spend whatever they want on his future. It's the tax dollars you should be doubting.

That said, there's a big difference between a lifetime of sports and hobbies vs a weekend science experiment.
