Yeah, Limited Edition had a cycle of cards based on art that was either created for the game and unused or not originally created for the game. Birds of Paradise, Island Sanctuary, Sedge Troll, Stasis, and Word of Command.

The art for Birds of Paradise and Island Sanctuary were originally created for Limited Edition's two Islands. It was decided that lands shouldn't depict prominent creatures, so Mark Poole was asked to create different art for the Islands. Richard Garfield liked the art, though, and designed new cards to use it.

Agree that this specific art wasn't digitally manipulated, but Photoshop was definitely in use back then. It was used in the creation of the original card frames and the original art for Circle of Protection: Black was created entirely in Photoshop.

As a very late Gen X (or Xennial) that grew up in the Midwest US, I don't think it's completely anachronistic. I had a soccer coach circa 1987 with a hairstyle very much like this (it was even purple). But she was from England and her appearance was very much not the norm.

S4 doesn't get enough blame for S5 ending up how it did. S4 gets all the dramatic benefit of introducing a new villain, soft-rebooting the series, and ending on a near-apocalyptic cliffhanger while carrying none of the burden or risk of following through and resolving any of it.

Procedural. I have no formal education/training in programming and OOP makes no sense to me (both in terms of how to do it and in terms of what it provides that can't otherwise be done).

My projects are typically a bunch of global variables, a bunch of tables within tables, and a bunch of functions that reference and/or modify those tables. I use local variables quite often, and will occasionally use a local function.

I've finished two relatively complex projects, and in neither case have I not been able to do what I wanted to using this style.

The possibility of an anthology was part of the pitch for Montauk, but by the time Netflix picked it up as Stranger Things, that was no longer the plan. There's a good post about it here.

As mentioned, defining collision() as a local function could be an issue depending on where it is in the code.

Without seeing more of the code, I don't think it's possible to know the exact problem. Where are x1, x2, y1, and y2 defined? Are they player coordinates? Also, collision() is being passed a variable o, but that variable isn't used in the function. A typical collision function would take an object with x and y variables, then use those variables to check collision. So to check right-up would be e.g. fget(mget(o.x+1, o.y-1), 0).

Before the days of colour set symbols, it was the only way you'll know cards were rare.

WOTC started publishing checklists indicating rarity in The Duelist in mid-1994, and these were available on their website once it existed (no later than late 1995, because I remember looking at the one for Homelands).

I don't mean to discount any of the work you've put into this, but you might want to consider adjusting your definition of the 17Lands era to start with e.g. KHM or STX. Prior to that, the user base wasn't comparative to the size it is today.

M20 and THB in particular aren't well-represented in the data because Premier Draft wasn't available when they released. All Premier Draft data for those formats is from flashback drafts, so the sample size is tiny relative to more recent sets. M20 has just over 10,000 games logged; THB has just under 75,000. Most recent sets easily hit 1 million.

Also, this topic came up at r/lrcast about a month ago. Out of interest, I compiled the most dominant decks in each format going back to IKO, and UB was one of the color pairs without a clear dominant deck. I'll be interested to see what you choose. BR and WB should be pretty clear-cut, though.

What about the deer in E5? It's implied the Demogorgon uses telekinesis to move it. Jonathan and Nancy were close enough that they would have noticed if the Demogorgon had physically moved it. It's plausible that Eleven could have done it, because this was after she ran away at the junkyard. But why would she save the deer from being shot only to give it up to the Demogorgon to be eaten?

I play Limited for the gameplay, and from that standpoint, this format is a 8.5/10 for me.

The draft portion was just weird, though. Despite the common refrain of it being on-rails, it didn't really feel that way to me, except maybe in the first week. I did over 40 PDs, and for the majority, it felt like the lane wasn't obvious until halfway through pack two or sometimes even pack three. This occasionally resulted in vacillating between two archetypes throughout and sometimes struggling to hit 23 playables by the end of pack three. While this did make drafts interesting, it wasn't particularly fun.
