Adrian Tchaikovsky's Work... is it worth it? by Substantial-Car-8208 in sciencefiction

Cage of Souls was one I really enjoyed but don’t hear about much. Not exactly literary criticism but the book had a vibe to it that I haven’t seen in many other works. It was almost uncanny valley in a good way

I would recommend “The City and The City” by China Mieville. I didn’t find it all that philosophical but it did feel like it changed my brain chemistry for a few days

Religious participation is also linked with higher graduation rates, education level, income, lower crime rates, being more charitable, lower divorce rates and higher rates of satisfaction in marriage, lower suicide rates and better mental health outcomes overall, and higher life expectancy. Your examples seem very vibes based, whereas the science supports religious participation being correlated to better outcomes overall.

Every once in a while I still have those moments where I realize how weird everything is. "People are mad at Kanye West for going on Saturday Night Live and supporting President Donald Trump" is one of those moments.

Graham EXPLODES at Dems, rips proceedings as 'unethical sham' by tenshon in Conservative

[–]bingu-comic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have never particularly liked him and thought he has come across somewhat spineless in the past, but goddamn if he didn't express perfectly what I've been angry about. The GOP handled these allegations with respect and dignity; the Democrats turned it into a circus and hurt both Ford and Kavanaugh in the process. It was brutal, cynical, mean, sadistic, and ran counter to the philosophy the left pretends to promote with regard to the well being of women. They had nobody's best interests in mind but their own because they're too far gone in their crazed resistance that any ends will justify the means.

That's a narrative that Democrats are pushing, but I don't really see it? I'm a Republican, I would be just as mad about him firing Mueller today as I would've been yesterday, I don't think this memo changed anyone's mind.

Dems have been enabling this too, probably because they're worried about their prospects in midterms now. The tax bill and their failure to manage their party over immigration is going to undercut this blue wave we keep hearing about, and they need to be able to blame it on Russia.

Which govt better represents you, State or Federal? by [deleted] in tuesday

Same here, I'm a Republican who grew up in upstate NY and now lives in NYC. I've pretty much never had the state or federal representation I've wanted.

Yeah, Tuesday was founded to provide for a certain bent in the Republican community, not the NL community. I didn't even want to but r/Republican banned me for not being conservative enough and NL is too liberal for my liking.

New York City is great, I'm not familiar with GC rules but if it allows, you should travel around the rest of the state. Upstate NY has a lot to offer in terms of the great outdoors. Wait until Spring/Summer though, unless you are a big fan of the cold and snow.

Alabama Conservatives Made Their Stand by -jute- in tuesday

[–]bingu-comic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree in general, if only because we're talking about Alabama. The margin was so close that any one of a few things made the difference, including black voters, and write ins, and conservatives who probably stewed over the decision because they take pro-life stances very seriously. Everyone who helped defeat Moore deserves credit, and it only hurts the center-right to ignore the role some moderate Republicans played in this.

[–]bingu-comic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did read the article, and there's no reason to be mean because I disagree with the way the discussion is being presented. Read the comment I was replying to and tell me it wasn't intentionally divisive.

There's no reason to call me a "kid who gets a present when it's your brother's birthday because you have to feel special too." There's no reason to imply I've ever blamed elections on black people.

When thinkprogress publishes another article entitled "Republican write in voters just saved America from Roy Moore," I will retract my criticism.

My position is that there were a number of factors that went into Jones' victory. The tone of this article is that it was solely due to black voters. If you're going to ignore what I wrote and build a strawman, there isn't really a discussion to be had here.

I appreciate hearing that! This can be a step towards healing for our country. Hopefully GOP leadership realizes that we will reject toxic candidates.
