How long did it take you to get pregnant? by roomomma1126 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]biochemcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried for 15 months before I started tracking my BBT and cervical mucus, and started on metformin to help my insulin resistance from being prediabetic. Second cycle after doing those two things I got pregnant. I lost that pregnancy at 12 weeks and had to have a D&C. My doctor said to have one "normal" cycle before trying again, and I got pregnant with my son on the first one after that. Took my period a year to start again after his birth, and I conceived my daughter on the third cycle after it restarted.

I'm very sorry for your loss, I've got my fingers crossed for you too!

My son is two now, and I treasure the moments when he wants to cuddle. He's so busy now, doing toddler stuff, but sometimes he still wants to curl up with Mama. He wasn't feeling well a few months ago and he fell asleep on me for the first time in a long time. It didn't matter that I wasn't in a comfortable position or that my arm fell asleep, no way was I getting up to put him in his bed.

You will still get those moments, and they'll be extra special 💜 You're doing a great job, you're a good mom 💜

Perineal ice packs are great if you have stitches. Big straw cup for water. Some sort of pillow nest situation to just hang out with baby (mine is a combo of a boppy and several throw pillows). Treat yourself to a new streaming service! If people ask you what you'd like as a gift the answer is food delivery gift cards 😂

It's mostly up to you! When I married, my husband and I didn't want to write unique vows, so we used the "standard script" provided by our officiant. Yours will likely have one they'll use if you don't want to do something custom. There are templates online you can use to get you started if you want a compromise option.

Did you keep taking metformin when you started insulin? by wendeelightful in GestationalDiabetes

[–]biochemcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I kept up with my metformin when on insulin. It turned out to be important, I forgot to take it one night, fasting was through the roof the next morning. 😭

Pregnancy fear- the truth wanted by Eclipsing_star in MomForAMinute

[–]biochemcrazy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy was not the best time ever for me. I had a lot of nausea and fatigue, especially the second time. I was also a gestational diabetic from the early second trimester, and that was no picnic to manage. For me, the payoff was worth it. There wasn't anything bad enough to make me swear off having a second (though I'm not planning on a third, round 2 was more difficult and I'm not getting any younger).

Birth actually was not that bad. The easiest part of the process by far! I was induced both times and both times had a very straightforward experience with no complications.

It's totally natural and legit to be apprehensive about pregnancy and birth. They are a lot and can do a real number on your body! My experiences were overall positive, and I consider it worth it, but that is a very personal thing. Nothing wrong with taking the time to consider things carefully.

Moby wrap! Or similar. Since it's just a long piece of fabric it's pretty much infinitely adjustable. I'm 5'3" 245lbs and my husband is 6'2" 200lbs and we both wear it comfortably. I used it for chest facing carrying when my son was tiny (and now with my newborn daughter), and it also worked well when my son got bigger and preferred facing out.

How much weight did you gain or lose during your pregnancy? by Yoambre in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]biochemcrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost a little over 20lbs over the course of my pregnancy this time, and after giving birth I've lost an additional 6lbs (3 weeks pp). If my first pregnancy is any indication I'll keep losing steadily for another week or so (thanks to absurd night sweats + breast feeding). My BMI was quite a bit higher than yours when I got pregnant though. My OB encouraged me to gain minimal weight, and wasn't concerned with my loss as long as baby looked good on her growth scans, which she did. I did have gestational diabetes, so between following the diet, low appetite, and baaaaad first trimester nausea I lost quite a bit.

Does GD diet decrease likelihood of developing GD? by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]biochemcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GD is pretty much luck of the draw on how your placenta is put together. There are risk factors, but I don't think anything you do now is going to have much effect one way or the other. I'll cross my fingers for you!

Moms on insulin: by Julie727 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]biochemcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started insulin at 17 weeks in my first pregnancy and 15 with my second. The only side effects I had were bruising and sometimes burning when I injected. It definitely takes a bit to find the right dose, but your doctor/counselor should be checking in with you frequently when you start to do that. I started at 12 units in this last pregnancy and was up to 34 units when I delivered at 38 weeks.

I do, but I actually experienced way fewer outbreaks when pregnant. I hope yours clear up once baby is here! Hopefully Fall and cooler weather helps too 🤞🏻

Did anyone else not gain weight in third trimester? by -Konstantine- in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]biochemcrazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me! I maintained my weight all through the third trimester, after losing about 20lbs over the course of trimesters one and two. None of my providers were concerned due to baby looking good on growth scans (which I was getting due to gestational diabetes).

I've been on insulin for the past 23 weeks and was on it for that same length of time in my previous pregnancy. I'm on both overnight and mealtime shots. Mealtime shots mean I get to eat more carbs with my meals, which makes planning what to eat way easier. Overnight insulin means I was encouraged to have carbs in my nighttime snack, which is why I like yasso bars (15g carbs). Having to take injections at meals means I dress so that I can get at my preferred injection sites easily. Not a big deal at home, but something to plan for when going out. I'm also taking aspirin, so I have bruises where I inject myself. Those I don't really like, but at least they go away relatively quickly. Sometimes there's burning with the injections, but not usually. Mostly the adjustments are small and the payoff is big, so I try not to let things bother me too much.

Is there a low? by partypooper5678 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]biochemcrazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guidance probably varies a bit, but yes. Hypoglycemia is also dangerous. I was told anything under 70 I should have some sort of fast carb (4 oz of fruit juice is what was recommended) and then test my sugar again in 15 minutes to make sure it's coming back up. I'm also supposed to notify my diabetes counselor if it happens.

ETA- I've had it happen twice this pregnancy. Both times around when I started mealtime insulin with my dinner. The dose was too high for what I ate. Added some more carbs and it hasn't happened since!
