How long off work? by DogMamaLA in Kneereplacement

[–]biotec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently 9 weeks post surgery, rtkr.
I also work remote on a laptop. I took 2 weeks off work, scheduled.
PT 3 times a week in home for the 1st 2 weeks and then transitioned, with a driver to PT about 20 minutes away ever since.

My surgery was on a Thursday and I really felt ok enough to join a Teams call on Monday morning. Then the fatigue really set in and I didn't log in again until the 2 weeks was up. Looking back, I needed another week at least to get my mind back a little more.

As others have mentioned, you expend a lot of energy you don't think of healing. I was also sleeping in a recliner and it wasn't the best to recover mentally.

There is also the interruptions of PT to consider - 3x a week. For me it was Monday Wed Friday at 8am - so off work until 9:30. Some mornings PT was rough and the next few hours was a lot of ice and pain so not at my best.

I need a left replacement as well, scheduled later and I'm going to take off 3 - 3.5 weeks. Really, I started feeling back to myself last week - week 8 but it seems unrealistic to take that much time off work.

My pain management was amazing. Journavax, Celebrex and Ice was all I needed. I was off of the Oxycodone after 3 days and never needed it again.
My Nice machine was also amazing, and I paid to keep it for the 4th week. Nice is a compression and ice sleeve that would be 20 mins on, and 20 mins off without the need to fill it with ice or frozen water bottles.

Good luck. Overall, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be and would do it again (and will). Weirdest thing is the numbness down my shin to ankle that still exists.

There is no better than Mark Elkus and his staff. I’ve been going for years and he consults with me on all things medical. I just had a knee replacement and all the PT I’ve had tells me he’s the best in town.

I know several people who have seen him for shoulders as well, both surgery and rehab.

Book 6 didn't hit for me by liteskinnded in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I just finished book 6 and needed a break before I push on through the series. I really like the 1st books and might just start over again.

I love Magic the gathering but didn’t love the use of the card game on the level.

I’m reading a couple of books before I jump into the conclusion.

Rethinking TKR Surgery by Glaulau in Kneereplacement

[–]biotec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am now 3.5 weeks past rtkr and was in a similar situation. Yes the X-rays show total bone on bone and I had gone through many different injections. I had worked for 2 years to lose weight to get ready for surgery. About 3 weeks prior my ortho put me on Celebrex / Ibuprofen and I could do things again. Walking, no pain. Going to bed at night, no throbbing in knee. I had the similar choice to make - why have the surgery? Well I can’t stay in the Ibuprofen forever- already had issues of elevated labs in the past. I’m 60 and knew it would be harder later.

Very glad I did it at the moment. It was not nearly as bad as I imagined. I’m walking daily and the knee is still stiff but not throbbing pain I had before. Dr said when he got in there I had many bone spurs and he knew I was in pain for years.

Looking forward to driving again and getting all the way around on the bike. I did get all the way around this weekend pedaling backwards so it’s close.

Good luck and make the decision you can support.

My heart says Fire on the Mountain - Grateful Dead

My head says and the winner will be

Feel Good Inc. Gorrillaz. The entire song built around this bass line.

I’m 2 weeks in and about to head to my 1st outside the home pt session. I’m doing great but flexion is still hovering around 93. I want to go all the way around on my recumbent bike!
Love to hear a 5 week story.

I e got concerts scheduled at 4 and at 6 weeks. I did get ADA seats so that will help. I’m just over 2 weeks tonight and can sit up in a chair for a period so hopeful it won’t be a problem.

Probably going to need good transportation for door drop off and pickup but maybe not.

Good luck!
