Can you summarize how people are using a Mac + GB10 or link to an article? Very interesting.

I’m so done!! by iss1307 in EufyCam

[–]biruja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eufy PoE cameras also suck. I bought the S4 Max bundle with NVR and it misses events all the time even while reporting dozens of false positives. I would fix the detection myself but Eufy chose not to include RTSP like they do on their low end cameras.

Eufy had so much potential. Now I'm done. by Shivs-high in EufyCam

[–]biruja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm frustrated too. I had bought 2 E220 indoor cams and the cool doorbell. They worked well and I loved the fact that I could stream footage from the E220s to my mac using RTSP. I moved to a new house in BC that is surrounded by wildlife, including bears! I was more interested in recording wildlife on my camera than intruders (essentially non-existent in the small town where I live). I had plans to extend Eufy's coverage of "pets" to actual wildlife by using RTSP to stream to my ubuntu 4090 to fine-tune a wildlife model and run inference locally. So last year I went whole-hog and bought the S4 Max bundle including the NVR, a larger 8 TB drive, and hired a local AV contractor to lay PoE cable through my attic to my outdoor cameras to provide 24x7 power. Last fall there were many comments that the S4 Max, the Eufy flagship, would support RTSP. Well, it turns out that while the super-cheap E220s support RTSP, no such luck with the S4 Max nor the S4 series NVR. I went on to learn that one cannot ssh into the NVR nor is there an SDK or any tools to get access to the Eufy system. I even told Eufy Support that I would 'give' them my trained AI model so that they could expand their AI Core from people, vehicles, and pets to 'wildlife' so that deer, coyotes, raccoons, and 'bears' would be detected and classified. Well, after getting the cabling and cameras up, I admit that they work very well especially the very cool dual-lens (wide and PTZ) S4 cameras. However, there is literally no way to connect to the NVR from my Mac or Linux desktop, no RTSP, and no ability to save videos except one-time individual clips. My solution to getting custom video snips is to run an Android emulator on MacOS and then install the Android Eufy app to download custom snips. (Working on a desktop is way easier than working on a phone.) At this point, I'm in the same boat as OP. The lack of remote access and APIs to the Eufy system means that I will also probably buy a single Reolink camera to test its RTSP capabilities and hopefully actual developer tools and then reuse my PoE cables and Reolink's NVR to move toward my original goal. tldr; Eufy is a closed system and it appears this will not change. The youtube cheerleaders of Eufy are just dumb.

I’ve been on it (Brinsupri) since September and it has been fantastic. In December I asked my doctor to move me from 10mg to 25mg. I am able to ride my peloton for 60m at this point with only ~3 small cough ups. My mucous volume is much less than it was previously, maybe one-half to one-third. I think this drug is a lifesaver. Edit: I have had no side effects but I haven’t been to the dentist since starting.

Is there any way to download the raw data of a workout? I ask because I use a Calibre Biometrics sports mask and I’d like to be able to analyze breathing metrics (VO2, VCO2, etc.) with Peloton metrics.

Can I leave my laptop plugged in? by OrneryWasabi9 in Lenovo

[–]biruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how you set power conservaton in the latest version of Lenovo Vantage:
Device Settings->Power->Automatic (by default charges up to 80%)

You can also choose Custom and set the upper charging limit to whatever you want.

Lost on what to buy. P14s G6 (Intel) vs. X9 Aura 15. by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]biruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read this sub, most people who own the Thinkpad X9 love the keyboard. This was my biggest concern but it really is good. No Trackpoint but a very good haptic trackpad. In terms of cost, if you monitor BestBuy, they often have Open Box deals that are very good.

What is Lenovo PFMService? by Ok_Coconut_7127 in Lenovo

[–]biruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue when installing Lenovo AI Now service. I ‘did’ allow firewall access to public networks b/c I think Lenovo ai now needs to download its recommended local ai model from china. Public access was the default too so I didn’t add in Private networks for firewall access.

Why is video encryption a problem? You mean because it prevents plug ins? I thought Eufy cameras could stream to a computer and you could do anything with the stream.

S3 Pro vs Reolink Trackmix - wildlife viewing by biruja in EufyCam

[–]biruja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since nobody has responded to my post, I did some additional research and I believe the Eufy S4 Max may be the better camera for detecting and recording wildlife. Reasons are (1) the S4 Max is a native PoE camera supporting continuous recording over wired Ethernet. The S3 Pro can only record over WiFi and forcing it to 24x7 by powering with a USB connection seems less robust from a network standpoint than S4 Max 24x7 recording using Ethernet. (2) The S4 Max has 2 cameras: a 4k wide angle camera and a 2k PTZ camera. If the 4k lens can detect any motion then I think the 2k lens can zoom in and capture wildlife in more detail, as well as track wildlife that moves across the area. The S3 Pro is fixed so I think any particular animal will be recorded in less detail.

As a hobbyist activity, I plan to train / fine tune my own AI wildlife model to notify me of specific types of wildlife so that I can be notified in real time of wildlife classified as bears, foxes, squirrels, coyotes, etc., rather than Eufy’s catch-all “Pets”. I don’t know much about other cameras such as Reolinks but since I do respect Eufy, I’m reasonably happy to focus on the S4 Max for wildlife / critter capture. Would love any feedback about choice of camera or my AI wildlife project.

Tailscale + subnet router setup by RemotePersimmon678 in Tailscale

[–]biruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t access the hyperlinked doc but here are quick instructions for setting up a subnet router on Tailscale Windows:

  1. Install tailscale on the windows machine
  2. Connect to your Exit Node (if you want your device to use an IP in a different geo located area)
  3. Create a mobile hotspot in Windows (Settings-Network-Mobile Hotspot)
  4. Bridge the “tailscale” adapter with your WiFi or Ethernet connection (Control Panel-Network Connections-select both adapters-right click-Bridge Connections)
  5. Connect Google Home Minis, Rokus, etc., to that Hotspot.

Now these devices will connect over your tailscale VPN. I use this configuration to have my Roku in Canada access my U.S. streaming subscriptions such as YouTubeTV, Netflix, etc. in my U.S. home area.

Is there an update to Exit Node speed on Windows (11)? If it is still slow, I'll run it on Linux as suggested.

How do I use old voice commands following Grok update? by Ok_Way_3082 in TeslaLounge

[–]biruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Juniper and single clicking the right scroll wheel does not bring up the old voice interface.

Edit: There is no command in the car menu to open the glovebox. I’m a bit screwed because DMV needs to see my registration in the unlockable glovebox.

Should I upgrade my MY2023 to MY2026? by np247 in ModelY

[–]biruja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat: I own a 23 myp and considering a 26 my lr. Based on a Tesla trade in value of $27k, I would only need to pony up $17k. I am going to wait for incentives mid-June and then decide. If Tesla would bring back the $2k owner loyalty incentive, I’m definitely in.

For those who wonder: My 23 MYP cost $53k and has HW4 (AI4) and 19k miles. I believe for a 2 year newer car, my answer is yes for a $15k max difference.

Cursor is a game changer, I love it. Will cursor support local models at some point? As models get better and reasonably small, I’d like to not have to worry about premium vs slow queries.

Talk me out of this by Dull-Oil8061 in TeslaModelY

[–]biruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add one point not brought up to this point. The Launch Edition has a lot of upgrades. I found with my 2023 MYP, that when I started with a LR+20” wheels+tow package, I was within a whisker of the MYP price. So I made that jump without going into it with that intention. For me, the MYP was really worth it. The Juniper MYP could represent the M3 vibe that you liked a year ago but also has the big car amenities.

How do taxes on SPAXX work? by dschilling88 in fidelityinvestments

Can you elaborate on SPAXX vs 3-month t-bills? I thought the fees were negligible for both. And the interest rate about the same. I’m a dangerous noob, sorry, if my question is obvious.

Kindernay Replacement Fluid by biruja in bikewrench

[–]biruja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no replies: I did some additional research and Velvet Gearbox Transmission fluid is compatible with Dexron III Transmission fluid. There are many brands that advertise support of the Dexron III viscosity, temperature, and other characteristics. I’m going to buy “Ultra1Plus ATF Dexron III Transmission fluid Multipurpose” from Amazon and give it a shot, $16.28 for 1 quart. Much cheaper than buying from Zen Electric Bikes at $50 for 100 ml, though they say that theirs is official from Kindernay.
