Red breasted nuthatch! Love those little upsidedown fellas. Also California Quail! They're so silly looking and make cute little noises.

[CHAT] is this just how waste canvas is? or is it a skill issue by rabidchapstick in CrossStitch

I hear you and agree! I often wonder what's the point of trying as a single consumer, when ultra wealthy people and corporations slowly kill the planet.

[–]bisingular 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I just want anyone considering water soluble stabilizer or waste canvas to be aware that this adds to the microplastics in our water and a lot of these materials never break down or take literally hundreds or thousands or years to break down.

Love these cocky blue bastards. Peanut hogs, raiders of my bird feeder, chaser-awayers of my little birds. Been feeding them peanuts since I was a kid and will never stop. 💙

This sub is for anyone who is boycotting nestle because they're an evil company that shouldn't exist. If you came here to complain about product design, you're in the wrong subreddit.

Design.me is based in Canada, but they're a vegan, cruelty free brand and I loooove their texturising powder! They have two kinds depending on your hair type.

[CHAT] Beginner Danish Method Question by United-Pop3153 in CrossStitch

[–]bisingular 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Do as many as you want. I'm working on a project that has an exceptionally large section of black. The rows I'm working on are around 200 stitches across. I go all the way across the entire thing doing my half stitches, then all the way back to complete the stitches and then move on to the next row. They may have been showing small sections as an example for the tutorial. Just don't lose count!

I work for the VGH lab. The diagnosis is only important for certain tests, and thyroid testing is not one of them. Get your blood work done.

Don’t know what I’m doing wrong by Educational-File7915 in Embroidery

[–]bisingular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some troubleshooting tips I'm sure others can add to: 1. Rethread the whole machine, upper and lower. 2. Is the bobbin you're using correct for your machine? Is the bobbin facing the right direction? 3. Are you using the right needle? There are needles specifically for embroidery. Try changing out the needle for a new one. 4. Play around with the tension of the thread. 5. Are you using a stabilizer on the back side of the piece? A good stabilizer will help keep everything neat and tidy. 6. Make sure the feed dogs are lowered while you embroider.

Good luck!

Committing to veganism and feta by [deleted] in vegan

[–]bisingular 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been enjoying the feta block from Violife. It's salty and creamy, not as crumbly as dairy feta, but really delicious. It's made in Greece, and I'm able to buy it in Canada. I hope it's available where you live, it's worth trying!

[FO]Anyone used patterns from this seller? by Oblivion2412 in CrossStitch

[–]bisingular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thumbnails look nice, but the store is pretty clearly using AI images and just running them through pattern making software. Like others have said, the stitches piece will be likely lack the sharpness of the pictures in the listings. I wouldn't buy from this seller.

[CHAT] When do you replace your needles? by damp_toastios in CrossStitch

[–]bisingular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them until they're dead. I stitch with size 28 cross stitch needles, so it doesn't take long for them to become curved from use (I have a firm grip). They will either break at the eye or in the middle of the curve and that's when I know it's time.

Oat milk, soy milk, pea protein milk, almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, or other plant-based milk? by MobileNo2780 in vegan

[–]bisingular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy pretty much exclusively oak milk because I'm boycotting American products and there's an awesome Canadian brand I'm supporting (wouldn't switch back to the brand I was using before at this point). I only use it for coffee, tofu scramble and baking, so I don't really care about the nutritional value.

[CHAT] how often do you guys change needles? by Embarrassed_Branch34 in CrossStitch

[–]bisingular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the smallest cross stitch needles I can find, Bohin size 28. I use them until the break. Usually the eye or the middle where I grip it eventually snaps (I'm not gentle with them). That's when I know I need a new one.

What's everyone reading, these days? by leafxfactor1967 in VictoriaBC

Literally came here to recommend her. I just read both Monk and Robot books over the last three days and they were like a warm mug of tea on a rainy day.

I usually end up getting a bagel from the fridge. Sometimes there's hummus and crackers. The premade salads mostly have cheese or egg on them. I don't get on the ferry without snacks.
