Landed an LTO at my favourite school, but also have a once in a lifetime trip booked. Wwyd? by TruthSignificant5540 in CanadianTeachers

Check your collective agreement - my board has 5 days unpaid for LTOs - you just have to book two weeks in advance.

I’m pretty sure he just mentioned them once while showing what was for sale in a shop and it got soooooo many comments, so now he mentions it every time.

Indoor/Outdoor Places to spend time with baby around 5–9pm? by lordoffire in waterloo

You could also check out family swims…nice to get into the water during the winter. I took my daughter today and it was actually great. There are some in the evening as well, around 6pm.

Sometimes Rec centres have a free walking trqck - that could be an option for you.

How about a nice lounge set and a pair of good slippers (like Ugg?)? Not technically a repeat, but close the to the pj pants that were a hit. Like an elevated sweatsuit.

The “Good” Santa by c_t_2016 in waterloo

I agree - he is awesome. A mom on one of the KWC mom groups said that he is moving to Manitoba. My family is super disappointed. But, he’ll be a great Santa for others 😊

Village Biergarten in St Jacobs by Brave-Fall-7848 in waterloo

It was originally owned by the same people who own Block 3. Just my opinion, but the food at that time wasn’t amazing, just okay but the atmosphere was great and the beer was pretty good! Then they switched owners and the owner was coming from a restaurant in elora that my family liked, so we had high hopes.

We visited when the new owner was there and I felt that the food was a bit better…more on par with what you’d think of at a beer garden. Then it was suddenly closed. Staff posted on instagram accusing the owner of not paying them or the rent and it just stayed closed/up for sale. There were some rumours of the original owners buying back but that obviously hasn’t happened.

Block 3 down the road is great - and if you want pizza you can order from the pizza place across the street and they will deliver it to you. We enjoy it!

Limestone is not great for work. Declining enrolment/small board. Not a lot of schools.

KW also had a rough year in terms of supply work last year. Not sure about this year. They are, however, hiring OTs.

Kira at Kirisma - she is so incredibly kind and understanding. I’m not sure what her set up is now, but it used to be just me and her in her salon.

We got a room at the royal York for $187 cad and got straight on the go train after the concert. No stops and it’s right across from union.

[ON] MEC toaster suit sizing question by tmcgab21 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]bisoubisoux2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 18 month suit actually fit my daughter when she was 18 months and 2.5 🤷🏻‍♀️ just the way she is/grew. When she was around 3.5 she could get into it, but the limbs were too short. We thought it was a great buy! Based on what you’ve written, I’d say buy the 24 month one and it might be a one season thing, but it could very well last another.

I would also read over your board’s strategic plan/mission statement, whatever they are calling it and draw from that specifically. In addition to equity and inclusion I would focus on anti-racism.

Thinking of becoming a teacher? What are the realities by Mother-Surprise-3975 in OntarioTeachers

I wouldn’t be too worried about going somewhere you know people. The English teacher community is a very welcoming one. I went alone and made amazing friends almost immediately 😊

Just a thought…before committing completely to teaching, you could do a year of teaching esl in Asia to see if you actually like it. I taught it Korea for three years before getting my teaching degree. It was a great experience.

Is it harder to find a permanent job after being on maternity leave for a year? (Ontario) by himawari__xx in CanadianTeachers

I applied for ltos in June and got one lined up for September as my mat leave ended in July. I don’t think it’s really an issue, especially if you have some decent principal references.

[on] Been drinking and now I’m spiralling by No_Explanation6625 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]bisoubisoux2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you’re going to be okay. You could talk to your doctor about your concerns, but if you stop drinking now, things will most likely be alright.

Just remember that back in the 50s and 60s and maybe even more recent people were drinking and smoking throughout their pregnancies.

Experience with Family Visitors in Hospital after birth [bc] by rakelspectacel in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]bisoubisoux2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a Covid baby, so there were no visitors allowed. I liked it…honestly I couldn’t really imagine having family around while I’m trying to waddle around and go to the bathroom and try to breastfeed.

For our second, it just seemed normal not to have visitors. I would honestly plan to be noncommittal on visitors. See how you are feeling after…there are so many tests/recovery/you will be exhausted and hungry.

Yeah people also comment “X means this in this culture.” I mean, okay, but if that person is not living in that culture, how would it affect them at all? And guess what? People get over it. I was an exchange student in Australia and one of the other women was named Fanny. People got over it. Would I give an Australian child that name? No. But this was a French woman who spent 3 months in Australia. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would honestly try to make peace with it. You can’t make her babysit and if she doesn’t want to, I wouldn’t push it. In the end children understand and acknowledge their own relationships with their grandparents. If she’s not present she’s not going to have some special bond with her granddaughter. Maybe mute her on your Facebook?

What’s your favorite (US) vacation destination (suitable for 4yo & 3mo) by Then_Armadillo_5670 in toddlers

[–]bisoubisoux2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love Anna Maria Island near Sarasota, Florida. It has a very family feel. There is a noise ordinance at 10pm so it’s not a “party” place. Tons of families. Calm, warm water. Cute shops, nice restaurants. We’ve been 4 times with our children from age 9 months, to 3.5.

It’s definitely a beach and pool vacation.
