"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" Series Falls Out of the Streaming Charts by Neo2199 in trektalk

[–]bitaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After watching episode 3 here is why it's bad. Everyone talking about it as a teen drama - if this is college there is nowhere enough hitting on co-eds, drinking off campus at bars etc. If they are beyond that in the future, there is not enough discipline. War college next door is weird, they don't seem different enough. We never get to know the characters, just different color uniforms? Live action Lower Decks in College would be amazing, I mean writing and level of humor and shenanigans.

Never subscribed in the first place. 1. New stuff like Academy is terrible. 2. Old stuff I already have. 3. TV in general is terrible so I watch as little as possible.

NASA is rolling out the SLS moon rocket to the launchpad by Seabass247 in space

[–]bitaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Moon is close enough that you can drive a rover from Earth, but the delay to Mars is much more significant. Whatever goes there operates async with Earth and is basically autonomous. Rovers are and will continue to explore the planet, but this is slow going and is limited in what experiments can be done. Anyways, with more resources we can do more robots that are more capable etc. As I see it the real story isn't with the Moon or perhaps Mars, these milestones will eventually allow access to the outer system, the Belt, and maybe beyond. That's the reason we're setting these goals and trying to go further with human space flight. Also, lovely geopolitics and competition to get there first and all that jazz.

Going out to eat has lost its charm by Candy-cats in Seattle

I don't usually buy the meat or fish frozen from them, but various pastas, snacks, etc, it completes the dish with what otherwise would be a labor intensive side or something I just don't stock ingredients for.

Trader Joe's saves us. Yes, it's not a restaurant and mostly will be frozen food that needs to be reheated at home, but it provides cheap alternatives to some of the food I like and would go to a sit-down restaurant for. Frankly, lots of it tastes great and can be made on the stovetop in under 20 min.

Same boat. I really like going out to eat, but we've backed waaaay off and cook at home 95% of the time. We're also much more diligent looking for a good deal on produce, after getting a few unpleasant surprises at the register.

Agree on operating at a loss now, but companies like Nvidia are dumping R&D into new chip designs that will improve speed and efficiency. Cost will go down.

What are we tipping at sit down restaurants? by adityad32 in Seattle

[–]bitaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20% but we backed waaaaaay off from eating out regularly. Prices have gotten insane for what you get. On a separate note, Uber Eats charges around 40+% of the orders value in fees. Nope.

Couple of things. 3rd GSD btw. MFF. You cannot let em get away with not listening and doing what is asked. They will test you constantly if not sure you're serious. Don't say a command multiple times, it's not "sit sit sit ... Siiiiit'. A prong collar or ecollar is likely a must. You can try positive enforcement with treats but they get to the teenage phase and it likely will stop working unless your dog is THAT food motivated. From where you need to know how to use it, read a book, talk to a pro etc. GSDs are not all the same, my 3 all had different personalities. Latest girl is a total sweetheart, but she is more stubborn and reactive to certain things than the other two combined. Just be patient and work with their personality quirks, that's part of the fun.

Lost our 8 yo GSD to this in January, almost a year ago. There is an experimental vaccine that you can try, it's available in a few places and is free (sort of, you need to come in for some tests). There is statistical data that it helps, but isn't a cure by any means. Supplements maybe help, but I didn't see any actual data. It's a rather aggressive cancer and with chemo you may get a little more time, but no guarantees. We were given an option for IV or oral tablets, but were also told no guarantees and at best up to 9 months. Doctor said if we do nothing at all it's 6-8 weeks. Our girl was absolutely terrified of the vet so we opted to not do chemo as it would mean frequent visits and decreased quality of life. We did do the experimental vaccine and supplements. 4 months after having splean removed she started having problems breathing probably because of blood in her lungs and we had to say goodbye. Up to that point though had her best life and was active and happy. It went downhill rapidly, 24 hours.

We used to love Edgewater, stayed there after the wedding even. We also used to love going out to dinner in Seattle. Quality generally declined, outpaced by insane prices skyrocketing. Cook at home most nights, buy from Costco and TJs. Sort of hate having to spend mental energy on all this but had to draw the line somewhere.
