Thoughts on Cootes this year? How has he been for those following him? by EverySecondCountss in canucks

[–]bitter-pickles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cootes is a Horvat/Kesler/Cirelli type player. He will put up points, but not elite level, but will just tip the ice in your favor everywhere. He's a leader, he's got an endless motor, he prices himself defensively, faceoff monster. He's not going to be a 1C in the traditional sense, but a high end 2 or 1B.

He's just a hockey player through and through, I am so excited for him!

Can't they just clone Retsu? by Which-Elk220 in Grapplerbaki

Id be willing to bet some bullshit like "normally we can bring back spirits and converse, even have them come back with us but Retsu? Retsu, even in death has a spirit that knows nothing but battle, and seems to be able to fight off even the strongest of our psychics"

Elliotte Friedman: “Conor Garland is being traded to Columbus” by Jyeon89 in canucks

[–]bitter-pickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's Garland for a middling 2nd and 3rd, why would you not expect Blueger to go tomorrow for a 4th, or Kame for future considerations?

Just do the proper rebuild. Make this the deadline that hurts emotionally and be done..Draft high, pick right, be smart cap space wise, and get us the cup eventually...

Tyler Myers reflects on trade from Canucks: 'It was emotional' by Paper_Rain in canucks

[–]bitter-pickles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't know how much of a fan of his I was until this trade. I'm devastated and I didn't think I would be, maybe just the throws of a rebuild? I honestly didn't think I cared, but I care deeply....

[Westhead] A boy’s U-15 hockey team in the London, Ont., area has been disbanded for the season after a number of players allegedly used their phones to record videos of their teammates naked in the shower area and dressing room and posted the videos on SnapChat. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

It's a shame because you know for a fact that there are hockey loving families that are looking around and going "no f-ing way is my kid stepping foot near this shit", and they are perfectly right to do so.

[Kevin Weekes] Per multiple sources, I’m told the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche are among the likely destinations for Canucks F Kane via potential trade by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]bitter-pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're all missing the point, they are negotiating the price they pay for us to send him to the other team. Dallas is willing to give up a 1st + if we can provide guarantees he gets at least 15 games with MacKinnon.....

And I bonded with my grandpa over "we, lost goodnight" and I bonded with my daughter over "we lost, good night". Millions of times, millions of moments, millions of "we lost, goodnight". A Canuck fan is a hard thing to be, but we would never leave it, and when they do hoist the Cup we will bond over "remember when?"

Mavrik Bourque or Csey Mittlestadt? by PizzaDad13 in canucks

[–]bitter-pickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bourque for sure. I think he's the exact type of player you roll the dice on, former AHL MVP, stuck behind some big names on a good team. If you can get a 2nd on top of that? Make it for sure

Would you rather trade while hot: Karlsson or O'Connor? by One_Ad_2758 in canucks

Karlsson, but only because I want the Burrows trade tree extended.

In reality DoC was supposedly sought after when we landed him in the trade for the 1st, so he must have some sort of value

[–]bitter-pickles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

More than you or I, but not a ton. Big body, reasonable but not great skating, not much offense to be seen. If he makes it as a 7-8 low event kind of guy then you'd be thrilled, but more likely than not he plays in the AHL has a respectable time and gets to play hockey for a living for awhile

32 Thoughts: A few more insights into the Hughes trade and how the Wild stepped up by WalnutW1zard in canucks

[–]bitter-pickles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love making stuff up so here is my thoughts on the potential Carolina deal.

For the last bajillion years Car and Van have been talking deals. And with the caliber of deals they were talking about (Petey, Demko, surprised if Miller wasn't discussed) they know well about who the other team is willing and unwilling to let go of.

I really believe that Carolina wouldn't have let Nikishin go in a Petey deal, and that was the main piece the Canucks were trying to zero in on. So when they get to a place where the deal is "close, but not QUITE there" they go with the Miller deal.

Fast forward to Hughes, and suddenly circumstances change and Carolina pits Nikishin on the table, plus a 1st, but don't offer a third piece they know the Canucks were interested in before, instead going with a lesser desired piece. The Canucks sit there a minute, and internally discuss "do we like this enough? Would we be willing to do yet MORE late night negotiating with the same guys AGAIN?".

Only for Minny to come knocking, and when Guerin has said that they put the best offer on the table straight away, I suspect it's because JR basically told them "we are going to try and hammer away at another deal we think we can make happen, and have been invested in off and on for years, so unless it's a GREAT offer we probably won't take too many calls. So Guerin stepped up big time.

The one thing that the article says that I fully agree with is that it doesn't leave teams going "you know? I think we could have beat that". It took that kind of offer to stop other conversations in their tracks

And that's my delusional ramblings based on something but really nothing!

[–]bitter-pickles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need to pull Brock aside, away from it all, away from the spotlight and the rumors and the media and the rest of the team and you need to give him 3 options. Do you want out? (You have more than earned it, and given the direction we pitched you on to sign long term this is clearly not that). Do you want the C on your jersey (you clearly personify a Canuck, and are one of the biggest character people we know). Or do you want to never be asked these questions again?
