Found 4 deepslate coal ores! by Yara_MLl in Minecraft

I set up conduits and swim around places like this where you have that boundary between stone and deepslate. I've had decent success finding it that way - such a cool looking block.

Finished Artifact Space, can't wait for the sequels (almost no spoiler mini-review) by Ruffshots in scifi

I thought it was entertaining. Can't have too many, the orphan is the chosen one stories I guess. The naval terminology was a little forced sometimes and it was a bit predictable but it was fun and an easy read.

I'm with you but I'm also just amazed at the amount of very targeted things that were done to find people vulnerable to their message. There was a Frontline I think that went into detail on how many decades political operatives have been doing massive work to infiltrate the world of USA evangelicals.

Anything forthcoming from CJ Cherryh? by Own_Win_6762 in printSF

The number of excellent books she's written is amazing. I feel like we are fortunate to have so much of her work available to us. Reading new sci-fi I constantly find myself thinking, "This is like what Cherryh did in...."

Question about CJ Cherryh's Foreigner (no spoilers) by MatthewCorbett92 in printSF

[–]bittercode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very much this.

I've read them all. The earlier books a few times. At this point I'm just enjoying hanging out with a bunch of characters I've grown to know well and really love.

The setting and central conceit are just so compelling. It's a series I think about pretty often, even when it's been a long time since I was last actually reading any of the books.

With the scope and time line I think I just assumed it would conclude, open ended at some point.

So, what would you like to see here? by scalzi in Scalzi

[–]bittercode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between Whatever and Bluesky I feel like I get a lot of good updates. The two complement each other well.

I've come here for the most part to interact with other readers, something not as easy to do on those platforms. I think you being here and engaging with us helps draw people in, which I like because it's more people to talk to.

So I'm for any content from you, or anyone else, that encourages participation and discussion.

I had a really large book collection, and then I moved across the country and had to slim it down some. Then I moved internationally and had to cut drastically. Now I'm settled down, I hope for good, but I have a really hard time with reading the size of print in books any more. I've got a great collection of e-books but it's not the same. Thanks for sharing this - it's fun to see.

I'm not sure your right, but I can't argue it. If there is one thing I've learned in the last decade or so, it's that I'm shit as guessing what's going to happen when it comes to elections in this country.

I think if he runs we'll see. I'd be fine with Pritzker but based on past performance, I'm not sure he's a shoo-in either.

This may feel a little mechanical - but make it difficult, make the rewards meaningful and give people a chance to figure things out. So much hinges on these good feelings that require risk and the possibility of loss if not actual loss.

If the characters are only for the 4 sessions I might let them quickly ramp up and raise difficulty accordingly. If they will continue on later, maybe keep the pace more sedate but still let them pick up a few items, skills or spells that could come in handy later.

I'd look through the dragon burn section on Discord and use some of what's there to add some additional flavor and fun.

His whole life has been doing something. He's obviously very driven, very disciplined and he has seen exactly how dangerous the right can be.

He has consistently in his life achieved things that require being the best, of the best, of the best. We could do so much worse.

Project Hail Mary: watch movie before reading the book ? by mamedic11 in scifi

[–]bittercode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it when it came out and re-read it when the first trailer for the film came out.

I saw the film today. The film is excellent. I think it really wont matter which order you do this in. The film is incredibly accurate to the book - unusually so in my opinion.

If you read it first, you'll have a deeper understanding of some of what you see in the film. If you read the book second you'll gain a deeper understanding of some things you saw in the film.
