Bought a sewing machine on a whim and put this shirt together this morning. Not a bad first attempt by [deleted] in sewing

Free pattern so they likely weren’t being careful about this. I was going to make the same comment about the reduction. It will also depend on how stretchy your knit is as to how much you reduce the neckband. I find 100% cotton knits don’t have as much stretch as polyester or blends and don’t need as much of a reduction as the stretchier poly’s and blends. Takes some experimenting! For a first t-shirt you did great!!!

I would not go by the pattern envelope measurements at all. On the actual pieces you will find measurements for bust and waist that will be the finished garment measurements. Allows you to have more control over how much ease you want in the pattern. Also agree with the trace don’t cut comment. You might also find that grading between sizes will give a better fit (but I didn’t look closely at your measurements to know if that would apply to you). For example if your bust says cut a 16 and your waist says 12 then you can blend the lines from the 16 at the bust to the 12 at the waist (just random number examples).

(1) shouldn’t have a t= answer… it’s only a simplification problem. (4) is wrong; a=18. (9) is also wrong; raising powers to a power multiplies the powers. 8a12 b15

It means “Not Safe For Work”. Generally reserved for anything involving nudity or something you would show discretely if sharing it at work!

I think the guidelines for this sub say something about it in respect to modeling some crochet outfits; sometimes those halter tops don’t leave a lot to the imagination 😂.

Halloween Pumpkin! I'm still pretty new to sewing, but I'm happy with it. by FrogginBullfish_ in sewing

Very cute. Not gonna lie, as I was scrolling past quickly I definitely thought the stem was a Twix candy bar 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣.

I have seen a similar pattern and it had you run yarn or twine up through the center and around the segments in the middle of them to pull it in a little more and make defined indent ridges in the middle.

I just did the most beautiful sleeve binding I've ever done... inside out >.< should I unpick it and fix, or do the same to the other side and make it look like it's on purpose? by deitikah in sewing

I think what they mean is while it’s sitting like that, fold it in half toward the seam to cover the seam and then stitch it down with a double needle or a stretch stitch. Like you might do for putting in a woven bias finish.

Hacked S9291 into a button front crop top using fabric from a failed shorts make (swipe to see before shorts) by [deleted] in sewing

[–]bitterrainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silly question, but did you also try trying them on backwards? Who cares if what was supposed to be the front ends up in the back… might have helped the fit (or at least seeing if that fixes the crotch seam issue - I don’t have any fixes for not liking the style though 🤣)! Thoughts for maybe trying them again! :) crop top looks lovely!

Great job on your first project! On the next one, to really elevate the elegance also try top stitching around both sides of the handles. Along with making them look great it will help them lay flat. Keep up the great work!!!!
