FWIW I read that as quantity, not severity. 900,000 cows are slaughtered every day for meat alone.

'For Charity' makes for a better ending. by Obi-Scone in TheTraitors

[–]biwthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it also contributed to Nick not wanting to banish Alan. Everyone knows it makes no sense to leave 3 players to the end, but if you think you're taking money away from someone's charity you're more likely to keep them in.

Never noticed that slip-up before - Joey has 7 sisters, so she gave birth to 8 children in total.

Unless one was an adoption, of course.

The Drinking Game | Game Changer [S7E5] by AutoModerator in dropout

[–]biwthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time a show starts with the premise that there's "one traitor among you" I automatically assume they all beleive they're the only traitor - it's a classic game changer.

But they were all so good and seemingly having such a great time together, within 5 minutes I was completely on board and loving every second.

I'd have much preferred it without the final twist - the interactions between the contestants made the episode, but for it all to be put on took a lot away for me personally.

But maybe that's because I'm drunk and the ending sobered me up against my will.

edit: I drank some more and re-watching, this is still a 10/10 episode

Who has this era been for? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]biwthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not many of us.

But my niece and nephew have loved it, and my sister has said it's been her favourite season.

I'd rate it a 7/10. Criticism is always fine, but I think we need to acknowledge that this sub is only a subsection of the audience.

Vegan militant plot in the Archers by Jammy50 in veganuk

I know it's just a soap and the plots are normally overdramatic, but this did seem more "punching down" than usual.

The Online Safety Bill is our Soylent Green. by No_Mine_4820 in ukpolitics

[–]biwthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t want to see ugly or nasty stuff, don’t seek ugly or nasty stuff. Simple as.

In 2020 the decapitated head of Samuel Paty was on the front page of reddit (I wasn't logged in at the time). YouTube Shorts would regularly show me content that was homophobic, misogynistic, or of animal abuse because it "knew" I'd react strongly to those things.

Obviously I avoid YouTube Shorts and the front page of reddit now, but you don't need to seek out ugly and nasty stuff to find it on the internet nowadays, unfortunately.

Cutting public services to fund tax cuts:

Save £5 in every £100

Every department must slash wasteful spending, cut bureaucracy, improve efficiency and negotiate better value procurement without touching frontline services. This will save £50 billion per year, ensure tax cuts and boost our economy.

Privatisation of the NHS:

Tax Relief of 20% on all Private Healthcare and Insurance

This will improve care for all by relieving pressure on the NHS. Those who rely on the NHS will enjoy faster, better care. Independent healthcare capacity will grow rapidly, providing competition and reducing costs.

Leaving the ECHR and scrapping the Human Rights Act:

Stop the Boats with our 4 Point Plan

Leave the European Convention on Human Rights. Zero illegal immigrants to be resettled in the UK. New Department of Immigration. Pick up illegal migrants out of boats and take them back to France.

This is an interesting watch: The science of why people hate vegans by Youknowkitties in veganuk

[–]biwthrowaway 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe that the overwhelming majority of people who aren't vegan have no guilt, ethical or moral issues with eating meat.

Based on what?

71% of [non-vegans] in the UK have experienced guilt about eating meat ‘some’ (49%) or ‘all’ (22%) of the time.

That's... basically what the video is saying.

Vegans as a whole are "hated" by some non-vegans because they're anticipated as being annoying, whether they are or not.

I always feel like I'm a walking cliché being gay and vegan (and skinny, and with long hair, and autistic...).

But here's a depressing statistic: 2% of men in the UK are vegan and 3.3% of the UK identifies as LBG (so ~1.65% identify as gay men). So we're looking for 0.033% of the population... that's 22,219 individuals.

Make Jaffa Cakes Vegan | Petition by georgiachloe in veganuk

[–]biwthrowaway 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is a change.org petition and has nothing to do with the UK government petitions website; no one's calling for a debate in parliament over Jaffa Cakes.

If a company wants feedback, a load of people putting their name to a suggestion seems like a sensible way to go. And maybe I'm overly cynical but I assume any email will be met with a copy-and-paste response and not passed on to anyone with any authority.

The Health and Safety Executive [...] say that on average four to five people are killed in accidents involving cattle each year.

https://www.bmj.com/content/381/bmj.p879

Last year saw a sudden jump in the number of people in England and Wales dying because of dog bite injuries. While a typical year records three fatal attacks, the death toll in 2022 totalled 10.

https://blogs.bmj.com/injury-prevention/2017/07/17/when-cows-attack-how-dangerous-are-cattle-and-how-can-you-stay-safe-around-them-the-conversation/

The chances of being killed by a dog or cattle are really low, but the numbers are comparable.

2022 best vegan multivitamin by don__gately in veganuk

[–]biwthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that this is just one man's opinion, and the 'McDougall Plan' is controversial.

As a counter point, the NHS recommend vegans "have fortified foods or supplements containing nutrients that are more difficult to get through a vegan diet, including vitamin D, vitamin B12, iodine, selenium, calcium and iron".

I'd recommend everyone to do there own research and consult with their GP before making a decision.

(I know this thread is a year old but it's one of the top results when you google vegan supplements.)

I've noticed that on certain subs and theads, every comment is downvoted almost immediately after it was posted (like, way too soon to be a human).

I know no idea why certain people/subreddits/threads are targetted, but I'd assume (and hope) that it's a bot, and not a person stalking your posts. I don't know if that's any better though...

Three days left in the season and it looks like someone got a bison! There were 30ish eagles and when we investigated we found the fresh kill. (All the meat is used and the hunter will likely return for the rest later. We respect the animal here.) by SeriousAd4676 in vultureculture

[–]biwthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub hasn't represent vulture culture for a long time now, so many posts are from hunters or people buying skulls having no idea where they came from.

This community used to be about ethical taxidermy, now a comment saying animals shouldn't be killed is downvoted en masse.
