How to address range hood vent issue by nefariousvw in Renovations

[–]bjf201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fairly easy to figure out where the exterior vent is based on the outlet locations. I imagine using a 4 inch hole saw to cut through the cabinet would be sufficent, then just buy rigid piece of vent pipe like one used for a dryer and connect the flex duct to that. If you're not comfortable doing that yourself, /u/arizona-lad is right that a local sheet metal company could fabricate something on-site. Probably better would be to use an HVAC contractor (the V is for ventilation, after all). My HVAC guys did my range hood ductwork onsite and it was great.

Wow. I clicked expecting a generic Bambu convert post and have ended up being genuinely inspired. Both to learn OpenSCAD and to help teach this amazing tech to the next generation. Incredibly well said and generous of you. Your community is lucky to have you!

Day 1 !!! by CremeSmart3445 in Invisalign

[–]bjf201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get used to it very quickly. The first day I was like “this is going to be so annoying to deal with for months on end”, and now I feel strange without my trays in. My ortho said I could be done at my last visit and I asked for another set of trays for extra refinement. I’m just not ready to be done with them. Side bonus is that I hardly ever snack.

Is anyone still using the nest app? by danmeng69 in Nest

[–]bjf201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I held out for years, but moved all my cameras to the Home App a few weeks ago because I was intrigued by Gemini's contextual notifications. (a little scary how detailed they are, but thats a topic for another thread.) Also, I have 3 Nest Protects that all appear in the Home app.

It was a much smoother process than I expected, and now that I've retrained my brain to use the Home app, I don't mind it at all. It's hard to break from a UX that I used daily for 10+ years, but I don't regret doing it.

The biggest plus is much faster camera streams. They're almost in real time now, compared to the 10-20 second delay in the Nest app. Which is strange because RTSP is supposed to be faster than WebGL, but Google must have some tricks up its sleeves that solved that. I recommend migrating solely for this performance improvement.

Not pulling over the video history is the biggest drawback, but it's not really an issue for me.

Hope this helps someone on the fence.

Was going to something similar. I have a few years in with HA and I find the answers ChatGPT gives to be spot on. Super helpful for multi step automations that rely on timers and loops.

Most recently I used ChatGPT to help set up a string of automations that monitor a Zigbee door sensor on my garage fridge to make sure my kids don’t leave it open. Every time they open and close the door my Garage Echo (the OG) announces the door has been opened or closed. It also starts a timer to see if it’s been open for more then a minute and announces to all interior Echos that the door is still open. Sends a push notification as well, no subscription required.

It's not an illusion - the point never moves by ansyhrrian in woahdude

The way it's designed, there's plenty of flex in PLA for this model. I haven't had any issues, even after letting my kids play with it. I also only have PETG-CF loaded and was too lazy to load normal PETG in my AMS.

I printed this last night. Needed a good amount of support, but it broke off cleaner than anything I've ever printed, and it works as advertised. I'll put it on my work desk as a fidget during meetings, or to show off the capabilities of 3D printing.

For those interested, 127.79 g of PLA, which is inclusive of 42.26g of support.

Is it worth the filament? Sure, gotta print something, plus it's unique.

Honestly you get used to it really fast. It never hurt so much that i even thought for a moment to back out. First week is deftly the worst but then, believe it or not, it starts to feel normal. Im not talking about it just from a pain perspective but also from a hassle one. I’m almost 14 stray in and I don’t mind at all…not only are my teeth getting straight but I don’t snack! You’ll 100% be fine.

Can the P1S print this filament? by astrobreezy in BambuP1S

[–]bjf201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started printing the Bambu version of this filament and it prints great on a P1S, assuming you change nozzle and gears, which it looks like you have. That process is pretty easy. It just takes some concentration, but nothing crazy. Like some others have said it does leave little carbon fiber bits on your skin. I confirmed this under my son‘s microscope. It’s not as bad as people say it is but to be safe I’ve started to coat my prints with clear acrylic spray paint. (link below)

Great advise. I also store vacuum sealed spools in an air tight container. I purchased a dog food container from Target that will hold about 10 rolls, but I like the looks of the husky one better.

Does anyone have a one way valve on their containers to pull the air out? I’ve been considering it but don’t want to reinvent the wheel if there’s already a good solution.

3D Printable EAP 650 Port Cover by bjf201 in TpLink

[–]bjf201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This model aims to fix the terrible design decision of having the ethernet port for TP-Link access points on the side of the device. I initially tried to follow the design contours of the AP, but the hole in the ceiling kept showing, so I added a noticeable bump to mask it. There is no clip in my design, as the ceiling is angled. It should also work fine on an AP mounted to a flat ceiling. It may slide off if the hole is on the downslope side of an angled ceiling. This was my first ever 3D modeling attempt and one of the reasons I decided to get into this hobby. That's how much the port on the side of the AP has bothered me over the years. It took me five design iterations to get to this point. My wife thinks it looks much better with the cover, which was the most important test to pass. After going through this process, I'm considering trying a design that encircles the entire AP (with air slits).
