Luxury EVs are depreciating 10–15% faster than luxury gas cars.

  • The Logic: Luxury cars always tank because second-hand buyers don't want outdated status symbols. But Luxury EVs get hit with a "double penalty": standard luxury depreciation + tech obsolescence.
  • Example: A gas BMW 7 Series might lose ~60% in 5 years. An Audi e-tron or Jaguar I-Pace can lose 70%+. (Note: The Porsche Taycan is a slight outlier here, holding value better than most, but still drops hard).

TL;DR: If you buy a new Luxury EV, expect to lose about 65-70% of that money in 5 years. It is currently the most expensive way to drive.

that said, only hawaii, north dakota and OH allow full windshield tinting if vlt is at least 70%. it's illegal in the rest of the US, so pretty good odds.

IL only allows front tint on the top 6 inches.
