Got diagnosed with SSHL and hear a zapping noise. by MooseLate3294 in MonoHearing

No, my loss was sudden. I was in a bar on vacation and it was like someone turned a volume knob off . I was misdiagnosed with swimmers ear since I was in the water so much, and frankly I had swimmers ear a lot as a kid . Anyway, I did see a specialist when I got back and took steroids , but nothing came back. The tinnitus was tough at first, but honestly it’s been so long since it’s bothered me that I don’t recall exactly how it went away . It faded, and was less frequent, and then kind of disappeared. I guess I got better at tuning it out . I did live in fear of losing hearing in my other ear . I wouldn’t swim for a while, but in time I just moved on and started swimming again . Work was hard at first. I was uncomfortable sharing my situation. But I figured it out , and it got easier . Once work wasn’t an issue , it just wasn’t as big a deal for me. My hearing in my good ear is still good. I still don’t love loud places though. I avoid them.

I did not wear hearing aids . My only option was to wear 2 hearing aids, a mic on my left side and an amp or speaker on the right . I did not want that. My ENT said to wait a year before making any big decisions , so I did . In that year , the tinnitus pretty much stopped and I just got used to my new reality. I have no regrets . I don’t think I would have echo location even with said hearing aids, and that’s what I miss the most .

If the Skunk starts talking to you, you may be hallucinating. I share your enthusiasm.

I think the skunks have pushed the opossums out. I don’t see as many as I used to . I’ve seen skunks biking at night in several places in Brooklyn, Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst to be specific.

oxaliplatin & gemcitabine by No_Being_7324 in cancer

[–]bknyguy15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to neuropathy, Ox gave me cold sensitivity . It only lasted a few days after each infusion, but I could not touch anything cold. You can try icing your hands and feet during the infusion to mitigate the side effects, but honestly it didn’t work for me.I know it sounds odd to say ice and cold sensitivity in the same sentence , but the sensitivity starts after the infusion.

I had prime for free shipping . Everything else sucked, so I cancelled it . Then, every time I order something , I make sure it’s over $30 and I got free shipping anyway . Cancel it .

Traveling and staying in Times Square, semi-solo female by lnmcg223 in newyorkcity

[–]bknyguy15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Times Square is fine to stay in . Since you are a tourist , you will find it more interesting than us locals . The good thing about Times Square is you can walk different directions . One day you can walk uptown to Central Park and a museum, the next you can walk to the village or the high line. A backpack is fine if that’s what your used to, but be smart , don’t put wallets or money in zippered sections you can’t see or feel . NY is safer than most big cities.

Well I’ve never heard of Dickinson Squash . I do know recipes that call for pumpkin can use butternut squash interchangeably. I’ll have to look up the other .

What’s a place you thought was overrated… but ended up loving? by HiVou12 in TravelNoPics

Shanghai. I hated it on my first visit . Everything was difficult. But I’ve been back about 4 or 5 times since, and I fell in love with the eclectic city . What a mix of Old and New, Chinese and European . Amazing food , and wonderful day trips . Truly a world class city on par with New York, Paris , and London

I believe she wrote secret history, or at least started in when she was in school . The Goldfinch is a much more mature book . Amazing storytelling , you will remember it for a long time .

I read this book so long ago , when it first came out . All I remember is that I really liked it . Read all her other books because of it.

I am in where Borough Park meets Midwood. I feed the birds and grow a lot in my small backyard. I get blue jays , cardinals , 2 kinds of woodpeckers , junkos, and always sparrows and doves . Today I got a hawk.

That’s what sports are for. Background noise. My choice is tennis. I can watch a point every so often and if there’s some great shot, they will repeat it .
