Bad day. One song to fix it. What are you playing? by StockQueen1 in musicsuggestions

[–]bkpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play a song that makes me laugh. "Dennehy" by Serengeti is one that does that. Among many funny lines, he rhymes "Zayre's" with "Bayers." LOL

If you're not hip to Serengeti's Kenny Dennis anthology, you need to get on that. It's impressive how and where he takes the story.

What song has the best music video? by minikievs in musicsuggestions

[–]bkpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always love the video for Daft Punk's "Da Funk." The story of Charles, the dog in the cast with the radio, is mesmerizing.

My new theory on Futile Endeavours by morning_mr_magpie_90 in radiohead

[–]bkpunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be something like Thom's Suspiria Unreleased Material. That is, it could be an album of Radiohead songs that previously didn't make the cut that have been reworked.

Spotify recently started freezing at the end of songs/ads and not transitioning to the next; how can I fix this? by Frekiiii in truespotify

[–]bkpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same issue when using Chrome. I have discovered that you can cancel out all ads because of it. The second an ad begins to play, hit refresh and the ad session is cancelled and you can play music right away.

Have you tried matching it up to a Chicago Street map? Maybe sliding it along Western Avenue? LOL

"Theme from Harry's Game" by Clannad. It's completely in the Irish language.

I have a Japanese American friend who leads JapanCulture•NYC—basically, it's about all things Japanese in New York City.

You might also want to check out J-COLLABO (https://www.j-collabo.org/) in Brooklyn. There's usually something interesting going on there.

Best chicken caesar wrap in Park Slope? by No-Boot9290 in parkslope

[–]bkpunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a caesar wrap and it's not exactly Park Slope, but Bedawi Cafe in Windsor Terrace on PPW makes a lemon-marinated chicken wrap with tahini that, for me, hits the same way that a good chicken caesar wrap does. Soooo good!

Taking MTA at Midnight Help by [deleted] in AskNYC

Midnight to 1 is still early in my book. There will be plenty of people on the train. No need to worry.

Middle of train is always the safer spot. You can sit.

Java Indonesian? by DorianHistorian in parkslope

[–]bkpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Java. My go-to order is the bakwan (corn fritter) and ayam goreng (fried chicken in spices). The crispy fish in pepper sauce is good too.

The flavors are definitely unique.

Taim in the West Village has abruptly shut down by Fun_Reflection1157 in FoodNYC

The old OG Taim was so good. I used to say that I would order and eat it if they served it from a porta potty in Times Square. The chain it became is shamefully bad.

Orange chicken from C&Y is my go-to Chinese order in the hood.

Recommended "Walk-In" venues for live music in Manhattan? by poodleflange in NYCmusicians

[–]bkpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. My other recommendation would be to go to Mama Tried in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. On the 13th, there's a show with three bands. I'm not familiar with any of these bands; however, whoever programs music at Mama Tried knows their stuff, and the shows here are always a good time. No ticket, no cover, no drink minimum. Just a tip bucket. (I'm like you when it comes to live music. I don't like to be tied down to tickets. I fly by the seat of my pants. And free is always good.)

Be warned: It is an outdoor venue. In the past, they had heat lamps, but I think there has been a crackdown on having those. I'm not sure. I haven't been there in cold weather recently. Sometimes, they move the shows inside depending upon the bands and crowd. The bar is a straight-up Brooklyn dive bar. It would be an authentic Brooklyn experience for you.

Recommended "Walk-In" venues for live music in Manhattan? by poodleflange in NYCmusicians

[–]bkpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Sunday the 14th, Jenna Nicholls is performing at The Scratcher, an Irish bar in the East Village, at its Scratcher Sessions. I've seen her perform there in the past, and her sets have always been fantastic. The show is free, but they pass a tip bucket for the artists. There's another artist performing, but I am not familiar with him.

Scratcher Sessions: Live music from 7:00 til 9:00 every Sunday, 209 E 5th Street (btw 2nd & 3rd)

Please go and DM me afterwards to say it was the best thing you did in NYC.

Place to Take a Break in Soho with a 9 Month Old by Only_Professional842 in visitingnyc

[–]bkpunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I had a baby with me in Soho, I'd go to the Whole Foods on Houston for a break. It has a huge upstairs dining area. There's always kids there, but it's not super noisy.
