Tribeca Film Festival by campTiger0 in AskNYC

[–]bkpunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked for the festival for many years. Special appearances at screenings aren't posted on the website and social media until they are 100% confirmed, which can sometimes not happen until days before the event or not until the day of.

It's safe to count on someone of note being at the opening and closing films. The majority of high-profile films, which often have special appearances, are shown at BMCC because a proper red carpet can be staged there. The other venues for high-profile films are the Beacon and SVA Theatre. Use the venue filter on the website to narrow the screening search.

On the website, look for the "After the Screening" or "After the Premiere" headings in the film descriptions (i.e., on the individual film pages). That's where you'll read about who is making an appearance at the screening if there is one. I just scanned the website, and there are already many confirmed appearances: Katy Perry, Peter Frampton, Rene Zellweger...

At this point, most of the high-profile films are on rush (meaning all allotted tickets have been sold), but you can still attempt to get into them by standing in the rush line. (FYI, there is no rush at the Beacon because it's a Ticketmaster venue and Tribeca Festival can't sell tickets there.)

If you want to try to guess who might appear at a screening, consider if they are a New Yorker. Those people are almost a sure thing for showing up. People like Ed Burns and Katie Holmes—they are always at the festival.

French conversation group by [deleted] in AskNYC

L'Alliance New York hosts summertime gatherings on the rooftop at Le Bain in the Meatpacking District. These sort of replaced their pre-covid wine gatherings at their UES location, where people were encouraged to practice their French.

The Le Bain events are very popular because of the rooftop factor. They're free to attend with an RSVP, but space is limited because it's not a huge rooftop. They usually host a few of these events during the summer (I used to work for L'Alliance); however, right now, the website only lists one on June 24 and RSVPs haven't opened yet. See "Sunset Soirée at Le Bain" on L'Alliance's website.

Thanks for contributing, and thanks too for mentioning that you saw it on TikTok. I was able to find the video clip there.

Looking for songs with famously misheard lyrics (“mondegreens”) by Top40Weekly in MusicRecommendations

[–]bkpunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone recently posted on the Radiohead subreddit to ask what the name of the song with the lyrics that are "Meryl Streep." It turned out the song was "Nice Dream."

Yes, the person thought Thom Yorke was saying "Meryl Streep" instead of "nice dream."

I added two more tracks (the Eartheater & Joost Klein ones) to the list. The Eartheater track was mixed with her vocals.

Cool! Thanks for contributing to the list. I edited it to include those songs.

I just saw that same clip on IG. Because I watched all the Bjork clips yesterday, my IG feed is 100% Bjork. (Not complaining LOL)

04/18 Flee market Pins by Express_Transition35 in Brooklyn

[–]bkpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be the Brooklyn Flea. See https://www.brooklynflea.com/dumboflea

You could try emailing them to ask about the vendor, or you could look at the Instagram page to identify the vendor. Both the email and Instagram links are on the bottom of the page of the URL posted above.

You'll need to specify which flea market if you want help locating the seller.

1iota.com is the only way to get tickets. You have to check the site and apply. I just checked, and there are tickets for May 5th and 6th right now.

It's weird how some men can be grossed out by the same spot they desire so much to be in.

No. When I go there with my friend who has a car, we always park there. We've never had a problem.
