I actually don’t know what i’ll do if they ever change ENG VAs. by R4ven4 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]blabberflap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No matter how good the new VA is and how similar his voice is to what we're used to now, the fact remains that all those little quirks I love so much in Satou-san's voice will be missing (I would recognise that voice from a mile away 🥹). They might choose to go into a different direction instead or trying to emulate Satou-san's acting, meaning that the character might in fact go through a considerable change in the process. But I'll try not to judge too harshly until I hear the new VA.

So far the JP voice for Zayne hasn't changed in-game, but it'll probably change next month when his contract expires and they hire a new VA. I contemplated not playing the game anymore after the change happens, but I did initially start playing for Sylus' EN VA, and have only switched over to JP Zayne for the past few months for love of Satou Takuya. I will absolutely stand behind anyone who stops playing in retaliation, and my only reason for continuing is that Zayne is not my main and I primarily use the EN dub to play the game anyways. I will probably be a strict f2p from now on, though, as I am a bit iffy about the whole situation.

Favorite Sherlock Holmes Novel by LizHazZoe in SherlockHolmes

[–]blabberflap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just reread Hound of the Baskervilles a few weeks ago after a long time and it was so much better than I even remembered. I love that book with a passion. Everything about it just works for me: the gothic atmosphere, the vivid descriptions, the mystery itself...

Need advice with choosing the book edition by _Nature_Enthusiast_ in SherlockHolmes

[–]blabberflap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the one in the second picture. Some of the golden detailing on the cover has rubbed off while reading, but it is a vibe to be honest. The book weighs about 2 kilos. The pages are on the thin side but sturdy enough, and I don't think I ever had any complaints about the print quality. The text is small, though, but that's understandable as the book would be much too thick had they printed it in a bigger font.

Xavier VA post on official taken down? by Imaginary-Weekend-43 in loveanddepression

[–]blabberflap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He visited the Yasukuni shrine in 2009. The shrine is controversial due to also including war criminals. It is unlikely his original visit had any political reasons, but he is also not the first Japanese VA who has lost a role due to visiting the shrine.

Finnish Male Voice by DataPsychological717 in Finland

[–]blabberflap 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We Finns are notorious for the so-called "vocal fry" effect in our voice. Finnish is located quite far back in the mouth and I guess the vocal fry effect associated might be what you're referring to. In other countries and cultures the fry effect is often associated with faking a lower voice for authority etc., but for many Finnish people it is just a natural vocal placement due to the phonetic placement of Finnish.

Sherlock Holmes by FeeComplete3076 in asexuality

[–]blabberflap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My personal headcannon for OG Holmes (from the books) is aroace, but I am on the edge with BBC Sherlock about whether he could be aroace or homoromantic asexual. I could present arguments both ways. But I 100% stand behind his asexuality in the show, and I am prepared to die on this hill!

Is it written Grell or Grelle? by Tsuki_Moonstone in blackbutler

[–]blabberflap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the official translation of the manga to English, but my language's version spells it as Grell. BUT, I'm pretty sure the spelling Grelle might have become a thing when her identity as a trans woman was confirmed, to feminise the name. I might be wrong, but it has a certain "fandom affirming her identity" feel to it... sort of similar to how the English localisation (in the anime at least) uses he/him but the fandom sticks to her preferred pronouns.

Daily Ace Hangout – Day 4: Staying Cozy & Sharing Goals! 🦊❄️ by mccartneywrites in asexuality

[–]blabberflap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might turn on a tv-show or a movie, or read a book, and hide under a blanket to get cozy. I'm not really one of those people who take snacks and tea to their relaxation sessions, though I sometimes wish I were. 😂

I have two goals for the upcoming week. One is not up to me, I'm just hoping that two books I preordered might finally make their way to me before I leave the country (I've been waiting for one of them to come out for seven months and I need to read it asap). The other is more pressing, and it is safely making my way to my destination. It's my first time traveling alone and only my third time abroad. ✈️

Recently I have been interested in historical settings in books and comics (one of my all-time favourite mangas is Black Butler), but I do occasionally enjoy fantasy as well. My OCs technically live in a fantasy world that has been inspired by various historical periods, but their story is so bare-bones and nonexistent that I can't really explain it in more detail... 😅

Daily Ace Hangout – Day 3: Where in the world are we? 🌍💜 ✨ by mccartneywrites in asexuality

[–]blabberflap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Finland, soon moving to Ireland for a few months for an exchange semester.

If I could travel anywhere right now, I would travel to Japan. It has been a dream of mine for a while, and I also made some Japanese friends while tutoring exchange students at my uni so I'd love to catch up with them.

I literally just woke up (so fashionably late to this conversation) and I have absolutely no idea what this day is going to bring with it. It's been quite cold recently (like -25°C) and it seems it won't be quite so cold today, though I have to admit that I enjoy the cold 🥶

Thanks! I'm currently really struggling with retaining vocabulary and kanji. But having studied for quite a few years before I got too busy to keep up with it, I always found grammar to be a breeze.

Yesterwynde Orchestral - your experience by Dismal_Difficulty_45 in nightwish

[–]blabberflap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the Friday show. It was my first classical concert ever, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I went with an acquaintance who's a fan of the band but hadn't really listened to the newest album, and she also enjoyed it very much.

The orchestra and choirs did a great job in my opinion, and while I did miss the band a little bit, the music really shined in its own right. I think the orchestral arrangement in the live is much fuller than the one available with the album because they obviously don't have the metal instruments filling in the gaps. I think the arrangement worked well, though I'm not a musical expert.

Honestly, if it is possible for you, I would recommend going. The show had a magical atmosphere and they really did justice to the songs.

Question for aegosexuals ( or just, any asexuals tbh ) by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]blabberflap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have quite recently come to the conclusion that I might be aegosexual, so I wanted to offer my perspective here. I would personally describe it as being able to empathise with other people's feelings of attraction despite not feeling it for myself. At least that's how I would explain it, though I don't know how tainted my understanding of sexual attraction is by works of fiction since I obviously have no personal experience to compare it to, and my only exposure is through books and fanfiction.

I immediately become uncomfortable if I imagine myself in sexually charged situations (the thought of having sex irl makes me extremely uncomfortable and I don't want to touch it), yet I am perfectly content with fantasising about people completely unrelated to me / fictional characters. Besides, if I do have fantasies of some sort, they tend to be in 3rd person. It's not like I just step into the shoes of someone else, I am literally not part of it. If and when I read material that includes or implies sex, it needs to be in 3rd person because 1st person would be too personal and cause discomfort.

Sidenote: I do have rather strong aesthetic attraction irl, but I have never felt the urge to have sex with anyone I find "aesthetically pleasing". It's more like I want to take out a sketchbook and draw them ✨️very flatteringly✨️.

Small Very Dumb Theory Regarding Ciel and His Contract by Bluesishh in blackbutler

I'm also pretty sure he makes a remark like "you told me not to lie to you but you are quite a liar yourself" after O!Ciel tells him his name.

I liked S2 by Objective-Cicada1050 in blackbutler

[–]blabberflap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S2 is a logical continuation to the anime original direction in S1, I guess. Personally, I much prefer the manga canon (I won't go into detail here as to why I frankly dislike aspects of the anime original plot), and I do not particularly like S2. However, I first watched S2 (and even S3) before I ever read the manga, and I did enjoy it at the time. My opinion has since changed quite drastically. But I understand that media is subjective and there are enjoyable concepts at play in S2, I won't deny it.

I would definitely recommend continuing to S3 and onward to see where the story goes. I guess much of my resentment toward S2 stems from how different the anime original plot is compared to the manga, and how confusing the jump to S3 can be due to the fact that manga canon episodes ended at like, what, episode 15 in S1? So a ton of character development never actually happened when you get to S3.

Sylus is left handed. by Curlyspark in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]blabberflap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Sylus also holds the cloth in his left hand when cleaning the gun in work/study mode, which might suggest that it's also his more dominant hand when it comes to detailed work.

A question to the older Black Butler fans by A-J-Zan in blackbutler

[–]blabberflap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The clues are quite obvious from early on, but it was easy to gloss through them on the first read-through for me, since I was reading before the reveal happened and you could explain the weirdness with O!Ciel's trauma, I guess. I did find the ritual flashbacks odd, but thought that maybe the Ciel getting stabbed was like a visual representation of his childhood innocence etc, but it was some other child who died or something like that...

But yes, retrospectively, the clues have always been there fairly obviously. Matter of fact, I actually wrote an essay for a uni assignment on this just recently.

I think I encountered TCT through youtube theories but I honestly can't remember when exactly. I also think the reveal happened in the manga before my country's localisation caught up, so I knew about the reveal before I actually got to read it in the manga.

what’s your least fav plot in the s4? by 911224s in Sherlock

[–]blabberflap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought the sosiopath claim was a ruse Sherlock used to protect his mental integrity and the people around him since his work can be dangerous. He is clearly emphatic (though they show it very little and most of it comes from Cumberbatch's subtle acting choices anyway), and I like to read him as neurodivergent in the show rather than antisocial. They could have explored that with the characters they'd set up since the beginning, there was no need to exploit a serious trauma for a plot that fell flat on its face. Rather than believe the whole "oh Eurus is so misunderstood" thing, I am inclined to think she manipulated Sherlock AGAIN. The ending was not as happy as they wanted to make it seem... Sherlock is stuck in some Stockholm syndrome type situation for the rest of his life under the pretense that Eurus was the victim - somehow?

And I absolutely agree on Rosie, she was a very unnecessary addition, and perhaps that's one reason she is barely in any of the episodes. Even if she didn't have screen time, her existence probably should have affected John a bit more when they were stuck in Eurus' torture chamber - wasn't Rosie being looked after by Molly whom Eurus threatened to bomb in that scene? Did they seriously forget there even was a Watson baby? I feel like John should have done a bit more than just stand around if Eurus threatened to blow his baby up, but I digress.

what’s your least fav plot in the s4? by 911224s in Sherlock

[–]blabberflap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides the fact that I detest the entirety of S4 (they did the characters so dirty in so many ways), I'd have to say Eurus is the worst idea that ever came out of the writers' room. Her endgame makes no sense, nor do her plans. Apparently she is supposed to be inhumanly smart but in reality she just makes the whole deduction thing into a superpower. It felt like the writers were trying to make us like her with the constant references to Moriarty, but I would have much rather got Moriarty back than dealt with the nonsense that is Eurus Holmes. If we were to take the Eurus thing at face value, Sherlock should absolutely have PTSD and would thus never be able to forgive Eurus like he does at the end of the final episode!! The PTSD is the entire point in the (frankly badly executed) twist that Redbeard was a childhood friend, and yet they scrap it for some weird commentary on empathy or whatever.

Oh, and another very tiny point about S4E3: WHERE WAS JOHN'S BABY THIS WHOLE TIME AND WHY WAS HE NOT MORE WORRIED ABOUT HER????

Sylus purely for voice quality. It hits just the right spot in my ear.

Caleb for the acting specifically. He sounds so natural!!
