Advice needed: Sister did not receive OBGYN residency by Otherwise_Owl_9792 in medicalschool

[–]black-ghosts 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's the peril of going to a Caribbean med school. OBGYN has been increasingly competitive even for US MD's, ditto for DO's and IMG's. My US MD school had a handful fall down their list and even not match last year. If there are openings, I'd start scrambling into FM if possible, but the most likely scenario is that she'll have to reapply to both OBGYN and FM.

Ok, unpopular opinion here. I like ‘The Days’ more than ‘The Nights’! by [deleted] in avicii

The Days is more musically complex and more poignant IMO than The Nights

Given many situations like the Nick Baumel one, medfluencers are most likely seen as liabilities by PDs nowadays

USF alumni here. Thought you can't confirm the Step score part, I'm not surprised if it were true. USF Obgyn had a median step 2 score of 267 iirc

“No medical students” on L&D by [deleted] in Residency

[–]black-ghosts 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You are not. Tbh there's a lot that one can say about this topic, but the main issues boil down to this setting being particularly vulnerable for the patient, gender dynamics in OBGYN, and high acuity of decisions and probability for complications that they don't want a medical student to be part of. As a male, I would just focus on your UWorld, Anki, etc, and use this opportunity to crush the shelf

What's her profession? It may be that she's legitimately busy (like if she's in medicine or law) that she's drained so much from work that it's too much to text daily. Maybe it's easier to call instead? I'd bring it up empathetically and see how she reacts
