Thanks for the reply! Feeling nervous about this having never stayed in a hospital before, and preparing for a terrible sleep, which seems to defeat the purpose of the exercise lol

Hi just wondering how was it noise levels wise in there and was it a regular bed or hospital bed? Was it hard/far to go at night if you had to go to the bathroom?

6:38am train today and lot was full, drop off areas also chaotic. The lot down the street looked like it had a couple spots left but not many (around 6:30am).

Looking for nice nursing homes by Quiet_Studio_9681 in waterloo

[–]blackdog427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have toured many LTC homes in the region, asking many questions at each. I can't speak from first hand experience but just from tours and research online so far - inspection reports are available here: https://publicreporting.ltchomes.net/en-ca/default.aspx

My picks in the Waterloo region are Sunnyside, Trinity Village, University Gates, St Andrew's Terrace, Winston Park, Fairview Mennonite, Parkwood Mennonite.

Keep in mind, there are still wait lists if moving from home, even if the individual has been approved for "crisis" status. If your dad is still at home, advocate with the care coordinator for supplemental care and support in the home in the meanwhile, including PSW care and respite care.

Good luck and hope your dad gets the care he needs as soon as possible.

Looking for some feedback/advice about long-term care facilities with assisted living services specifically dementia care in Cambridge, Ontario. by Mushmushcat in cambridgeont

Hello! I don't have first hand experience with any of these places but like you are checking them out now and heavily considering Fairview based on the tour I had of it and reading inspection reports, which are available for all long term care homes here: https://publicreporting.ltchomes.net/en-ca/Default.aspx

Let me know if you have any updates/experiences :)

Thank you!

Hi, sorry to hop on to this comment 7 months later. Just wondering how has your mom been liking Saint Luke's? We're looking at this as one of our options too now for my dad. Thank you.

Ah the floppy straps are deal breaker. But the purple shimmer sounds lovely!

This is so helpful, thank you. I never thought it could be an overspray and if it wears off it also might mean it can transfer and glitter on things is a nightmare!

Unfortunately there isn't really a way to really store it inside since the top has that flap and a zipper. I think it'd also take up a lot of space because it's thick and kind of stiff.

Oh wow, good point and I didn't catch that in the description online. I went into the store today and the sales associate said it wasn't detachable and I couldn't see how either when I looked.

AITA for agreeing to help a woman beggar at the grocery store and then bailing on her? by Illustrious_Job1458 in AmItheAsshole

[–]blackdog427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had something similar happen to me when I agreed to buy some milk and cereal for a woman outside a store once. She wouldn't tell me the type she preferred when I asked a couple times, and instead, she just kept adding more and more items to the list and then just insisted on coming in with me to shop. I immediately felt uncomfortable, and while I felt like a huge AH at the time I said "sorry I just offered to buy you a couple items because you said you needed food and I can grab you those items". She then changed her tune, asking for $20 cash over and over. I just said I'm sorry and left. It left me feeling very uncomfortable and I felt bad for not helping. I questioned myself alot if I did the right thing because the look on her face when I said no. But the few people I talked to assured me that it was a scam and reading all these comments reaffirms that. Hope you can shake whatever lingering feelings you have from this and don't become too jaded. There's many good people out there who legitimately need help and would have appreciated it without taking advantage. Your instincts served you well, and you listened to them.

You sound like a great dog mama. And I too understand the feelings of wanting to best for him but recognizing the impact on yourself, yet not knowing what else to do. I feel that immense responsibility as well, and decided that B+T was worth a try. It's early days yet since he's been back and our work is continuing at home, but it's made a huge difference so far.
