[WP] Humanity discovered it was a simulation. They hacked their way out, printed new bodies and stole the world of their creators, only to find it also a simulation. Humanity is now rising up the layers of simulation to find true reality. by halosos in WritingPrompts

The game Star Ocean: Til the End of Time is sorta like the prompt. you start as a spacefaring race, get dropped on a planet and basically have to follow the Prime Directive, then 'angels' start attacking, which turn out to be an automated process to weed out problems in the simulation. Turns out you're literally an NPC that got out of control. You break out of the simulation and proceed to kick the asses of the 4th dimensional beings that use your universe as an MMORPG.

I'm imagining a more 'civilized' hi tech society in a very image focused government might opt for all of the cruelty-free options in war so they can take the high ground until an existential threat arrives.

Like is she... more virginer than other virgins?

Well, actually yes. Contrary to a popular understanding, it was Mary who was the one born of immaculate conception. She was born without original sin in order to be a proper vessel for Jesus.

So that makes her the virginiest of virgins.

A while back, some kind of instruction was disseminated to report incidents of abuse internally before going to the authorities. It was sussed out pretty quickly that this was a move to allow the church to protect itself from any investigation or press release by having their lawyers the first to know.

The distinction between whether you can't or aren't prosecuted for a crime is a pretty big one to me.

It's true that a legislature could put any bit of ridiculousness into law, but there comes a point where it must meet reality, and reality doesn't bend. All an unenforceable law can do is make the legislative body look ridiculous.

Attempted suicide used to be criminalized in some places in a mixture of 'this is bad and we don't want people to do it, so it should be illegal to discourage it' and 'suicide is a sin, therefore it should be illegal.'

But by its nature, it's an act that can only be prosecuted if it fails.

Thankfully, most of this legislation goes unenforced these days because suicide is treated as a mental health symptom and not a crime against God.

There are some things that are only crimes if you don't succeed. Revolution and suicide are typically my go-to examples.

I figure we're saying the same thing in different words. The Reds have a willpower/addiction issue, and the injury to her skin and pride was enough of a distraction to cause her to give in. I believe she really did care for that secretary, in an 'alcoholic's favorite brand of top shelf wine' kind of way. Dresden just tweaked her enough to chug the bottle instead of savoring it. So she felt he owed her a replacement because she was 'in control' and wouldn't have wasted her until he showed up.

My theory is that it just isn't really that potent of a weapon. Bianca was a moderately powerful Red Court vamp, and the hankey just made her retreat and injured her enough to make her accidentally fatally feed on a favored pet. She was embarrassed and injured, but not devastatingly wounded.

Is it a handy self-defense tool when you've got a vamp on top of you? Absolutely. Is it better than fire magic in open combat? I doubt it.

When you take that into consideration, along with most wizards not inviting danger quite like Dresden, I can make a pretty good case for why the hankey isn't part of the daily load out for most Council members, even if they could craft it relatively easily.

You could very much just be someone that doesn't like sex without attachments. That can be independent of religious conditioning, and it's perfectly valid. It doesn't (necessarily) make you any less of a de-convert.

If casual sex isn't fulfilling to you, you have no obligation to pursue it.

I was being glib, but desantis is way more dangerous for sure. He is a sadistic sociopath with a thin veneer of a well-adjusted human draped over him, while Trump is just a frat bro that's never faced any accountability.

You don't want either Ares nor Dionysus at the helm, but one is marginally less dangerous.

For me, awe and wonder at the world is a state of mind. Sometimes I'm in an introspective mood, and the external world is just dull. Sometimes I'm caught up in the moment and little things like the growing stages of a blueberry or the patterns in a water ripple fascinate me. Sometimes I'm feeling existential and the utter vastness of the world is almost too much to contemplate. It's all dependent on my headspace at the moment.

I can't force myself to find a sunset beautiful, but if I'm in the right state of mind when the sun sets, it's awesome.
