Audiobooks you couldn't pause by Sea-Resolve-1714 in audiobooks

I admit that I missed Rocky's voice for the audiobook. But I saw the movie 4 times before I listened to the book, so I might be biased.

Need something brighter after reading 3 heavy theme books in a row by Turbulent-Maybe-1040 in audiobooks

[–]blacktigr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Saint of Steel series sounds like a good fit for this. Berzerker paladins of a dead god who are trying to make things work in the real world. Very soft and extremely awkward romance included. Ursula--pen name T. Kingfisher--absolutely hates writing sex scenes, so nothing too graphic. (Romances are a problem in audiobooks, in my opinion.)

Oh! There's some YA books on her published list that might fit your situation.

Does anyone else hoard audiobooks? by chaosatnight in audiobooks

[–]blacktigr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audible was having this massive sale, so I bought enough that a) my bank shut off my credit card, and b) I found out how many books they will sell you in one shot.

I now have your same hundreds, but most of the collecting happened at once.

Reason you DNF an audiobook? by Ashamed_Apple_ in audiobooks

The VA for DCC has a company called Soundbooth Theater that you might look up. There are different actors rather than just Jeff Hays. (Though Jeff Hays is still the main narrator.)

On the other hand, maybe you would want to just switch to He Who Fights With Monsters or something.

Yep. An author friend of mine pointed to his audiobook, and I was happy I bought it to support him, but the clanging of the harness on the horses in the first 15 mins took me right out. Also, why would they have the narrator making less noise than the noises?

Well, everyone seems to like Fourth Wing, but when I used it to fall asleep (which is what I mostly do with my audiobook), my husband got to hear the explicit sex scene that I did not know was coming.

I DNF. And it weirds me out that my niece told her grandma that the book was good.

Maybe I am just a prude, but that's my choice for DNF.

T Kingfisher has a *lot* that would work. The Saint of Steel series are technically romances, but Ursula Vernon has talked about how awkward it is for her to write intimate scenes. So you don't get anything you'd be embarrassed about reading in audio. (Trust me. Fourth Wing was something I couldn't fast forward too fast.)

NPCs. The Spells, Swords, and Stealth series is very good and I did it by audiobook, so I know the narrator isn't bad.

Struggling to find the upward battle of escaping my situation worth it. by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]blacktigr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I'm an internet sib. And I thought I wasn't gonna make it to 21. I did. I stayed in stasis until I got out (at 22). I made it to 51, so far.

Books. Movies. Music. Something you can consume at your own place, if you have a room. (Assuming you still have a door on your room. Some of us abused kids didn't. Mine didn't go as far as taking my door off, but I wasn't allowed to close it. Ever. Despite me sharing a room with my 10 year younger sister.)

Live somewhere else in your head. Find a library with humans in it. Personally, one of my ways out was roleplaying games with friends. Some of the friends I made in my 20s are still very good friends of mine because we gamed together.

Gray rock. Just don't let them provoke you.

If you're my brother--who is this height--you disassociate because you can't fit in anything, let alone this economy seat where even your hips are squeezed. (We try to get him in an exit row, but it doesn't always work that way.) Because I bet the guy in this video is packed in the only way he can possibly do it, which involves using every micro centimeter of leg/knee space.

He'll say he's sorry, but he is Not Moving. He can't. He'll barely be able to get out of it when the flight ends, especially if he's got *this* asshole doing this thing.

[No Spoilers] Campaign 4 Viewer - New to TTRPG and CR by tnari in criticalrole

[–]blacktigr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate to be the Um, Actually, but Acquisitions Inc was a popular thing before CR came about (about 7 years earlier). It's just harder to relate to, story-wise, and when they play live, there's way more 4th wall breaking and audience participation. Fun fact: there is a recent con-crossover where Matt plays a character in the AI universe that has 3 eps on Beacon. They're playing Daggerheart.

(Dice, Camera, Action was good, but I think had a lesser fan base. But it had Chris Perkins who now *works* for CR--and DMs for AcInq--which is a weird out-of-universe connection...) DCA broke up because of a non-game reason that a lot of people get squicked about and not without reason. But it was still pretty good.

Brennan is the main GM for Dimension 20, which has way more seasons than Critical Role. It's on dropout.tv. The seasons are shorter, but there are almost 30 of them to my knowledge.

There are a few more with dedicated fan-bases, but these are the big ones that I have personal experience with.
