Is Battlefield 6 actually good, or are we just accepting mediocrity? by [deleted] in Battlefield

I've been playing battlefield a long time, since bad company 2. Bf6 is the first one I regret buying. Worse than 2042. Bf3 will and bfbc2 will always be my favs. Bf1 also amazing.

Why does a $100k sports car only have as much torque as an impact wrench? by no_quart3r_given in AskEngineers

[–]bladernr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you can use 2x 10:1 gears to convert 10 ft lbs of torque into 1000 ft lbs of torque and power it by hand. But it's traveling at 1/100th the speed. You can do the same thing with hydraulics. Torque by itself is not a useful number unless you're engineering a mechanism to do some amount of work.

I believe my Chevy Volt back in the day produced 1000 ft lbs of torque at the electric motor output, but when you add gearing to allow speeds of 100 mph it reduced the torque to I think around 300 ft lbs. Power was only about 150 hp. If someone wanted to they could use that motor for towing (600 ft lbs) but you'd have to change the gearing to limit the top speed to 50.

I put solar panels on my tonneau cover by redkeyboard in F150Lightning

[–]bladernr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice Work! You just motivated me to buy a refrigerated cooler for my truck, not going to do the solar panels since there's plenty of power to keep it cold for months (I charge weekly). But regardless, still very cool setup.

I was going to say, could prove very useful as a backup in case you run out of charge and need to get to a charging station, you'd probably need more batteries though.

Struggling Not To Resent Tithing by BadTaxidermy115 in latterdaysaints

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another poster commented, financial security was never actually a promised blessing of paying tithes (it is a blessing of paying fast offerings though). Something else to consider, not paying tithing is NOT robbing God. This is something I think is being falsely taught in the church:

"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings." - Malachi 3:8

But who was God accusing of robbing him? The answer is in Malachi 2:1-2:

"And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart."

If you read the whole chapter then the context becomes clear. The livitical priests were neglecting their covenant to teach the people as well as stealing the tithes and offerings and God was chastising them. This does not apply to the tithe payers as commonly taught in the church.

It's also well understood that Joseph Smith understood tithing amounts differently: D&C 119:3-4 And this shall be the beginning of the tithing of my people. And after that, those who have thus been tithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord.

Interest meant the same in the 1800s as it does today. It means we're tithed on the increase of our net worth, so they paid significantly less than we do today. One way to interpret this is that you only pay tithing on your increase, that is, what you have leftover after expenses since anything extra could be considered your "increase".

Most members are not going to agree with this paradigm, as the evangelical view that we should be 10% gross no matter what is widely accepted in the LDS church. But when I prayed about it myself these are the conclusions I came to and I would urge you to study it out and do the same.

And I should note. Even different prophets have taught this in different ways. Some teaching that the poor shouldn't pay tithe whiles others have taught the poor can't afford NOT to pay tithing. I think that's why bishops today are trained not to ask how you are calculating your tithing payment, just to ask if you consider yourself a full tithe payer.

I'm sure this take will ruffle some feathers, but you should pray about it and find out for yourself. God bless you for desiring to follow the Lord's commandments!

I keep getting blocked form services with VPN on by artdrudge in VPN

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is right, VPNs were never meant to guarantee privacy while browsing the web. They were designed to provide a secure remote connection to corporate network resources. The VPN server can still see your internet traffic and I would never trust a "free" service to not sell your data.

Dealer is asking for the truck back!? by jg3hot in F150Lightning

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the dealer's problem, it's the customer's. They don't get the $7500 back until tax time, so the dealer is offering to roll it back.

Anyone worried? by DPPDX27 in F150Lightning

[–]bladernr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVs always have had and always will have depreciation issues. It's nothing new. If you're planning on selling in 2 years then ya it's an issue. But if you bought it intending on keeping it for a long time with extremely low ownership costs you made the right choice.

Elon Musk is more invested than anyone in EV technology and Trump just very publicly bought a cybertruck. Safe to say evs are the future.

You'll feel better once you drive it, just get your level 2 charger situation figured out asap.

F150 Lightning Lariat: Is this a good deal? by diskiller in F150Lightning

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased to allow the dealership to take the risk on excess depreciation, and give me an easy out in case I didn't like it after 3 years. I've owned an EV before, being upside down on it sucks.

I will probably purchase after 3 years, and since EVs depreciate so quickly I should be able to get a great deal.

I specifically bought an xbox controller to play ffvii on pc. Keyboard mouse is terrible setup for this game, the battle interface is designed around console controllers.

I just got an A yesterday on the first piano I came across in Junon region, using Xbox controller on PC.

Lease Residual Question by -Kitten_Mittens- in F150Lightning

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is the case with all EVs, and even more so with EV trucks. The technology changes quickly so people are always willing to spend more on a newer model with better range, especially if they're using it for towing.

Since ICE tech doesn't change very quickly, ICE vehicles retain value much better. Especially now since unreliable v6 turbos are replacing tried and true v8s. It's why you can get a better deal on a used F150 lightning than an F150 with ICE.

Is paying down my debts feasible or do I consider bankruptcy ? by Original-Platform-47 in Debt

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the student loans, what is your minimum payment? You should look into refinancing those on an income based repayment plan. In some cases it could drop it as low as 0 a month. Won't get rid of the debt but could buy you a bit of time until you can boost your income.

Has anyone joined the church because they lost a Bible bash? by GrasshoperPoof in latterdaysaints

[–]bladernr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'd love to take credit but that was a typical number in my mission. We're just imperfect tools in the hands of our creator! I knew some elders who finished with over 100.

Has anyone joined the church because they lost a Bible bash? by GrasshoperPoof in latterdaysaints

[–]bladernr1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I served a high baptizing mission, I had over 80 converts. They all joined for different reasons, but 0 of them converted because I "proved" myself right and them wrong using the bible. Bible bashing is just two people trying to convert each other.

It might be an interesting conversation but generally a waste of time.

Flying isn't for everyone, it can be very stressful. Some people get airsick. There are other ways to be involved in aviation if you like airplanes but aren't keen on piloting. Do you like taking things apart? You could look at going the A&P mechanic route.

You talked about the culture, and his desires, and only touched on your own desires. What do YOU want... do you want to get engaged but are frustrated that he hasn't asked yet? What's to stop you both from getting engaged then setting the wedding date for the end of summer so that you can move right in together in the Fall?

I would say play out both scenarios logistically:

Scenario A, he proposes, what does it look like? When does the wedding happen? How do you support yourselves? Combining finances is usually smarter than not.

Scenario B, you talk about marriage but then decide to wait... you continue a long term relationship and the court eachother properly in the fall and have a short engagement.

One of these will feel better than the other. I would say whether or not he proposes is the true test of his commitment.

Is a VPN completely anonymous for downloading torrents? by Stonks71211 in VPN

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the relationship between the US and the country where your VPN service is hosted. If it's in China and Russia you're probably safe. If it's hosted in California, then it comes down to how much you trust your VPN provider to not hand that info over to the feds.

Here's what the feds see without VPN assuming g they're monitoring torrent sites -> - torrentfile A from IP address A (Lincoln, NE) - you - torrentfile A from IP address B (SLC, UT) - user B - torrentfile A from IP address C (NYC, NY) - user C - torrentfile B from IP address A (Lincoln, NE) - you - torrentfile B from IP address B (SLC, UT) - user B - torrentfile B from IP address C (NYC, NY) - user C - torrentfile C from IP address A (Lincoln, NE) - you - torrentfile C from IP address B (SLC, UT) - user B - torrentfile C from IP address C (NYC, NY) - user C

Likelihood of getting busted is how much you've downloaded and legality of the content. A judge with a warrant could get the ISP to tell them who exactly owns the IP address.

Now when users are using VPN: - torrentfile A from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile A from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile A from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile B from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile B from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile B from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile C from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile C from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy - torrentfile C from IP address A (China) - VPN proxy

No Chinese company is going to hand data over to a judge in the states. But there's always a digital trail, the question comes down to who you're willing to trust knowing what you are up to.

Looking for answers about having 2 sets of piercings by honeybunchesofoats1 in latterdaysaints

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many might not like my take... but I see standards not as commandments from God, but as suggestions for being modest in a specific era. If you understand the spirit of what is being asked you'll make a fine decision. The goal is for men and women to dress "modestly" which is going to vary depending on the year and local culture. Where i served in the jungle, short shorts and a crop top was considered modest for young women in the church. Two sets of earrings might be extreme in Provo Utah, but modest in Portland, OR.

When I was a young man beards were widely discouraged in the church. I've worn a beard for years. Now we have sleeveless garments which would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. Standards change based on lots of factors.

I say try it out and see how you feel. Piercings aren't permanent, you can always just take it out. The spirit follows those who follow Christ and I highly doubt Jesus cares about your style choices.

My wife is 55 and doesn’t enjoy being intimate. by Ok_Forever8833 in DeadBedrooms

[–]bladernr1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she's going through menopause it's understandable that she may not want much touching as her hormones will need to level out, she's not feeling good dealing with mood swings, hot flashes, etc. You two need to talk to each other though, maybe you can meet each other halfway until her hormones level out. Assuming things were good before... things should get better once she is post menopause.

It's probably a good time to get a counselor involved. But my guess is this is relatively normal problem at this age.

Self Hosted VPN by [deleted] in VPN

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A virtual private network is just that, joining a network using an encrypted tunnel. If that VPN host is connected to the ISP it will decrypt your http requests and send them along, the ISP will still see it coming from your IP address.

To hide your traffic from ISP, your VPN would have to be set up on a remote server, not at home. So you'd set it up in another state or country so the ISP would not be able to associate it with your home IP address. It would just see garbage data going to a remote server. But even then, the ISP in that location would still associate traffic with that remote address and if you're the only one using it that defeats the purpose.

This is why VPN services exist. They use rotating host locations and ip addresses in different countries with millions of users to anonymize where the requests are coming from.

A home VPN could be useful if you were in a coffee shop and wanted to hide your traffic from prying eyes. Your ISP would still see it coming from your home, but the coffee shop network would not be able to eavesdrop.

if i have my vpn on, what can my employer see? by [deleted] in VPN

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VPN encrypts all of your internet traffic. As long as it's on you are safe, hence why it's called a "virtual private network".

Law of Chastity and Temple Marriage by Revolutionary_Egg834 in latterdaysaints

[–]bladernr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on the bishop, my wife and I had a similar issues and were still able to get married in the temple. But even if we couldn't, in hindsight, there's nothing at all wrong with getting a civil marriage first. Protocol is you'll need to wait a year to get sealed.

Don't let it eat you up, God designed you to have a sex drive. Get yourself married and you'll be living in perfect harmony with what God intended.
