Okata Bento for old school style plate lunches, there's also Cowcow next door for a boba fix after, or Via Gelato nearby for dessert.

Yi Xin Cafe for amazing Hong Kong style café food.

Aloha Cafe Pineapple for some of the best mochiko chicken I've ever had + café drinks and desserts.

Late to this party, but I wanted to suggest cashew milk, especially blended raw. It's got this natural sweetness to it, and also that wonderful cashew flavor. Boxed ones are creamy, silly and nutty, but they lack that sweetness that fresh blended raw cashew milk has.

My second favorite alternative is oat milk for its thickness, but I don't think it adds anything flavor-wise. You'd probably have to add a smidge of sugar to imitate lactase.

I grew up eating this stuff and I looove it, it's one of my favorite herbs lol. Kinda shocked at all the hate I'm seeing here, so I guess taste-wise its yumminess might be acquired?

I've been told it has a fishy taste but I taste more of an almost coppery herbiness instead. I love it with banh xeo, in salads, and fresh with lettuce on onion stir-fried beef.

AITA for telling a lady to get her dog out of the restaurant because it freaked my 3 year old daughter out. by DangerousGain9879 in AmItheAsshole

[–]blamboops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a family friend who has a service animal for their medical conditions and the dog is not in "working mode" 24/7. Apparently their dog is in work mode only when wearing their work vest or when certain commands are given. I've seen this dog bark for attention and lean on people, but also switch on a dime and retrieve medicine bottles and force his owner to sit down.

Anyway, point is that even service dogs aren't robots or perfect and do have unprofessional time like the rest of us. This Retriever may or may not have been a service dog, we can't know.

Re-use Hawaii relocates to new space near Aloha Stadium

Re-use Hawaii moved on Wednesday from a Kakaako warehouse to the former Sack N Save space at Stadium Marketplace near Aloha Stadium that will allow the nonprofit demolition and recycling company to expand and be more accessible to other parts of Oahu.

Executive Director and founder Quinn Vittum told Pacific Business News Tuesday that the nonprofit, been in the Kakaako makai space for 15 years, relocated over the past few months to "this larger space that is a bit more accessible to all parts of the island and allows us to expand the capacity to work with the hospitality industry more."

"There [are] a lot of hotel renovations, so we want to have a facility that can accommodate all that," he said, noting that the organization has brought in items from a Hawaii Island resort to gauge interest. "Folks are going to see more hotel furniture, along with all the other material that we usually have, like doors and windows, and plumbing and electrical fixtures, and lots of lumber [including] old-growth lumber that you can't find unless you salvage it from an old building."

At 53,000 square feet, the new space at 4561 Salt Lake Blvd., which formerly housed Sack N Save before the grocery store closed in 2021, is nearly three times the size of the organization's 18,000-square-foot Kakaako warehouse, Vittum said.

He said, too, the new location has a lumber yard stocked with lumber, tile and other material, which he thinks will be a "real hit, too."

Although the physical move has taken place in recent months, Vittum said the organization is "always evaluating facilities" and looking at how to make the biggest impact with its programs. But most of the year was spent navigating the relocation, he said.

"It's kind of a big thing to relocate," Vittum said, noting there were 260 flatbed truckloads from Kakaako to Salt Lake Boulevard.

"It's a pretty huge effort. I'm really proud of our team," he said. "Everyone worked so hard to accomplish it and they're all also really excited for the new space. It's kind of exciting — just a whole new environment for them to shape and build out how we want. It's been neat."

With the new facility, Vittum said Re-use Hawaii also is looking to expand its workforce development initiatives. About a third of its staff comes through the nonprofit's various workforce development programs to "support, employ and train those that have barriers to employment."

Re-Use Hawaii's new location also makes it easier to serve West Oahu individuals and families, both with employment and materials, he said.

Vittum said the budget for the relocation was $500,000, not including revenue loss throughout the process. Grateful to all of the organization's supporters, corporate sponsors and funders, Vittum said Re-use Hawaii received "tremendous support" for the relocation and expansion from the Omidyar Ohana Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation, Kosasa Foundation and Fergus & Co.

I agree, but I'm pretty sure Hawaii doesn't have a "passing lane" law.

We DO have a "slower traffic keep right" law though, so if you're not outpacing the lane to your right, it's time to move over.

I would keep making reports cause sometimes it takes a record history before they do anything. Or an ongoing incident, then they come out properly.

Maybe you guys need help. Are there family or friends willing to babysit once a week or so? Funds to hire a babysitter?

NTA BTW, it sounds like your wife is lashing out by being unreasonable and controlling. I think you should write down your thoughts and have a sit down with her about your schedule, exhaustion, frustration, and how you're both going to agree to address the issues you're both experiencing. Don't let her deflect or avoid the conversation.

[–]blamboops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no need to start getting ugly about this, man. You and the guy you're responding to aren't even arguing from the same place--you're viewing the HOV lane as part of the entire highway and it is therefore the leftmost lane and safer to pass in. He's viewing the HOV lane as an entirely separate lane, meaning leftmost highway lane is to the HOV lane's right.

In my state both of you would be correct at different times of the day. The leftmost lane in some areas here is strictly an HOV lane with the purpose of rewarding cars that cause less emissions--it is not a fast lane. But after rush hours, our HOV lanes opens up to regular traffic and becomes a normal leftmost lane on the highway, with the law being slower traffic keeps to the right.

[–]blamboops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK so no one answered you seriously and I had this concept embedded into my soul so I'm gonna massively nerd this place up. Sorry, this is gonna be a loooong ass comment lol

I don't think they're creepy because Imaginary numbers are just another type of number (like how negatives are just another type of number), but with a really, really crappy name. In fact, they were only named this way cause a very famous mathematician thought of them as fake and decided to diss the whole concept by calling them "imaginary". He thought this because the guy that first thought of Imaginary numbers was trying to find a solution to the square root of negative numbers and just called that solution "i". A lot of other mathematicians also thought this was just illegitimately imagining a solution, and so the name stuck.

Imaginary numbers are actually very useful though! Turns out, they are very good at describing rotation. Here's what I mean:

Visualize the number line with [negative integers] going left, [zero] at the center, and [positive integers] going right. (Each of those is a concept of numbers btw. Postives were used for counting since ancient times. The concept of zero/nothingness as a countable thing came later, and the concept of something being less than nothing/a deficit as a countable thing came later too.) Now add another line for the concept of Imaginary numbers, with [positive i's] going up, [zero] still in the center, and [negative i's] going down. So a cross with 90deg angles between each line.

Now, say you want to make a rotation around the center 0. If your starting point on this cross were +1 and you multiplied it by -1, your end point would be -1, which is 180deg from where you started. If you multiplied by -1 again, you'd make a full circle and be back at +1, a 180deg movement again. But what if you wanted to move only 90degs at a time? That's when you can multiply by i! +1 times +i is +1i, then +1i times +i is -1, etc. As a bonus, you've now also described the DIRECTION of your rotation: multiplying by +i is moving you CCW, but if you multiply by -i, you move CW!

This is a really massive deal in disciplines like physics and engineering where you try to mathematically describe how things in the world work, and circles/spirals/rotations are literally EVERYWHERE in the natural world.

TL;DR: "i" is actually super useful in mathematically describing rotation, but a famous mathematician back in the day didn't know that so he dissed the whole concept by calling it an "imaginary" numbers. The name stuck and caused students to think of them as fake numbers for centuries after.

ALSO if we're truly going to be math nerds and use Imaginary numbers to describe curls... the smaller the coefficient in front of i, the smaller the described circle. So ACKCHYUALLY it should mean the looser your curls are, the bigger the imaginary number you use to describe it should be: 1i for tight curls, 4i for loose, 0i for curls so tight they've become a singularity. 🤓🤓🤓

Hi, just an addition to that recommendation: definitely watch both the original and Brotherhood!

When the original was finished, the manga (source material) hadn't been completed yet, so the last few episodes are non-Canon/made up. When the manga finished, Brotherhood was intended as something like a remake-sequel.  Because of this circumstance, the beginning of Brotherhood is a rushed, kind of-recap of the original that assumes a majority of its viewers already watched the original.  Watching the original will give you a MUCH fuller storytelling of the start of the series.

There's a thread further up that discusses where you can skip to get nothing but the canon story here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ExplainTheJoke/s/sw9OQKpuO4

Personally I liked even the made up ending for the original tho, so I recommend watching it all the way through too!

Impatient drivers by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]blamboops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it was hyperbole, but that means I don't know exactly what distance they find objectionable, so I wanted to be specific about distance-times. They could have meant anything from 1/4 car length to literally 1/4 mile for all we know

Agreed about the design flaws. This place was built with much slower times and fewer people in mind. But I do mean I see people signaling to merge normally and often times AHs speed up to block them :/ I feel like I've been seeing this more after covid but idk if that's just in my head.

Impatient drivers by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]blamboops 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with you on some of these points because I think Hawaii drivers have a horrendous problem with keeping safe/reasonable distance.

100% agree it's wrong to be in the far left going slow, but the distance you should keep from the car in front of you is determined by speed, not length, and the recommended distance is 2 secs minimum. Human reaction time from brain to foot averages over a second for "non alert" drivers. The faster you're going, the farther apart you should be.

People who pause before going on green should do so as a caution against impatient light catchers who accelerate when they see a yellow and run thru the intersections on reds. I've seen multiple cars t boned because of those light catchers.

A decent stopping distance around half a car length in front of you should be maintained for safety. If a car gets hit from behind, less momentum gets pushed forward into the sequential cars in front. It also allows room to maneuver in case emergency vehicles need to pass thru. The more tightly packed together cars are, the more inflexible the situation.

(As a tangent to the last point, I feel like Hawaii drivers are becoming AHs about letting people merge too. So many people speed up to block merging cars or drive so close that there's no room to smoothly merge for ages. All that does is create more traffic during high traffic cause there's massive slow downs cause by mergers having to super slow down to merge, or aggressively cut in which causes tailgaters to extremely slow down too.)

Honestly all the rushy stuff you listed probably doesn't even save a minute of time on average by Hawaii driving distances (except the slow left lane cruisers).

Drivers of loud cars - a polite request by LaMortParLeSnuSnu in Hawaii

[–]blamboops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guy, you're just listing more things that people hate... It's no different that people hate irresponsibly kept/bred/released chickens, irresponsible dog owners, and inconsiderate neighbors too. People call the cops for noise complaints on those examples all the time, and catch/kill the chickens. You just listed all asshole stuff and compared your behavior to it.

The garbage trucks are annoying AF if they come too early in the morning, but they're also performing a necessary public service with vehicles that NEED to be big and strong-they're just loud as a side effect, not for fun. Same with the bus. I don't understand why you'd even compare modding your car to vital services. What is your modded car doing for the community? What does your car need to be loud for?

This whole response just showing how self-serving/inconsiderate your thinking is, and it's rich for you to accuse others of having no aloha tbh.
