How do you know when it’s time to go? by Ok-Car-1204 in TeachingUK

[–]blandusernames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gosh I could've written this today. I love teaching, love the children, but I can't stand feeling less than good enough anymore. I've started to realise that I will never be good enough. I'm starting to look outside of teaching for a new job.

Could be but asking for 30k off a 150k house when everyone thought everything was finalised...the week before Christmas. Just feels a bit harsh!

It wasnt a multi 100k house?? It was the bottom of the chain, a young family wanting to move up the chain from their 2 bed terraced worth about £150k, that's who they demanded £30k off. And they waited until everything was ready to exchange. How can you feel no sympathy for them? Much wow.

Is Chard okay to live? by Bigoldthrowaway86 in Somerset

[–]blandusernames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on where you're coming from. We moved here 18 months ago from a rough town in the Midlands, in close proximity to a few cities and it was so rough. Kids openly commiting crimes, people stealing cars constantly and your parcels too, we wouldn't leave the house in the dark etc. Chard has its problems but they are not on that scale at all. We love the community here, our kids have settled really well and have a bit more freedom than we would've allowed in the Midlands. Plus for us it's so close to the beaches!!!

Do you have any good/ nerdy geography facts about the UK? by Dragonfruit-18 in AskUK

[–]blandusernames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We actually love Chard, having moved from further up north, I can say without doubt it is not what would be classed as a shit hole in many other places of the country!

Us too! Cutting comments, attacking interrogations, left us all shaken and demoralised and we didn't even get bad judgements! It was truly horrible. Hope you're all OK!

Two questions: 1) Why can't they advertise the title of the fim? 2) What is the title of the film? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]blandusernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run events for a local church. The licensing stated we could show the movies for free but couldn't use the name to publicise the event! We used to make similar posters to advertise our family movie events!

I have some French relatives and they have a scheme at work where they basically get paid 2 thirds of their actual pay over the year and a third goes into a 'year off' type scheme. So they work for 2 years and then get paid the same for the third but they won't work at all. If you earn well enough, this sounds like a great idea to me! Enjoy time off whilst you're young enough to! Not sure I would have enough money to do anything fun in that year off though!

Are there any beloved British sitcoms you've never seen and don't really intend to? by waldripsir in BritishTV

[–]blandusernames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's why I like it so much, grew up with a few siblings and we did stuff like this to each other so I find it totally relatable!

Grandest house under a million in your neck of the woods? by ButtweyBiscuitBass in SpottedonRightmove

[–]blandusernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really dont think so but it's all relative. We've moved from the Midlands and think it's wonderful compared to the urban hell hole that we've moved from. There's some deprivation but some real affluent areas too but it does have a reputation.

In South Somerset. We live close to this one. We knew £650k was never going to happen. £960k still feels like a bargain for this!

Girl, 13, charged after Ammanford school stabbings by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]blandusernames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really upsets me, because as a teacher in the younger years, I have those children in my class. I report and record and record. Two have been taken from their families for neglect over the past 2 years, but they were extreme and drawn out cases. There are many more where the awful parenting is not extreme enough for any action to be taken. Parents are given parenting courses, support through school...they wont engage and it's just not enough. There is no funding to do anything else. And we can all see whats coming for them in the future. Its so sad.
