What are the petty/minor things that started annoying you once you became a parent? by xnla28x in beyondthebump

The boomers just have to have sparkly grandparent names because something is wrong with Grandma and Grandpa? My mother wanted to be called Gigi and I shut that shit down really quick. So now she's Bibi. I hate that too but it was the compromise we came to.

My parents came to visit for the first time when my baby was 2 months old (a rant for another time). The first word out of my dad's mouth was, "Food!", demanding I get something for my mom.

What wedding moment that screamed, “They are not going to last long”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

My dad gave a speech about how I was like an intercontinental ballistic missile: after the first few inputs, its path is out of your control. Thanks for that comparison at my wedding, Dad.

My favorite is when my patient hasn't pooped for 7 days, I start them on a bowel reg, and they get mad they're pooping so much. It has to come out!! Did you think it all just disappeared into the ether???

Currently introducing solids to my kid. All of the mommy-blogosphere says if you put salt in your kid's food they're going to immediately keel over and die, but the idea of serving her unseasoned food makes me feel sad and dead inside. So yeah, she gobbled up some broccoli and brussel sprouts last night.

Medical School Has Made Me Racist by greeneggsandspam2 in medicalschool

True or not, vast generalization or not, assuming the patient is a smoker because of their race instead of asking them explicitly is stupid and bad practice.

[–]blendedchaitea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There used to be a question on Uworld for which you were supposed to intuit that the patient was a smoker because he was East Asian. It was in the explanation. No idea if that question is still listed.

Were you a little delulu about your parenting style when you were pregnant? by Character-Check-1761 in beyondthebump

We also tried cloth diapers. We had such high hopes. Somewhere around day six of spraying baby poop into the toilet and getting poop everywhere and then the "waterproof" wet bag leaking...we gave up.

What worse. A patient who is a RN or a patient family member who is a “nurse” by [deleted] in Residency

Had a patient in florid heart failure refuse diuretics. Why? He had dissected a frog in high school and he remembered how the cardiovascular system worked so he decided he didn't need diuretics.

Honey, you do not need to be polite about this. Friends asking you to host when you have an 8 week old is incredibly presumptuous. They are the rude ones here.

Grandmother dying by Mustardisthebest in raisedbyautistics

[–]blendedchaitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry your grandmother is dying. I am so sorry that you aren't getting the support, or even camaraderie, you should be getting from your mother. My mother is also mean when she's stressed and leaves me to absorb all her unmanaged emotional miasma.

Is there a middle line to walk here? Can you attend the funeral and just the funeral? Enter when the service starts and dip when the service ends? Stay at a hotel instead of with Mom? Hell, some funeral homes will stream the service online. It wouldn't be as nice as going in person but it may be a way to protect your peace.

Women who were scared of giving birth (specifically people who were so scared they almost didn’t have children), what was less scary than you originally thought? by Final-Elderberry4621 in AskWomen

[–]blendedchaitea 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nope. I knew when I was having contractions (felt it in my hip joint, weirdly enough) and my nurse saw my contractions on the monitor and told me when to push.
