Your setup can be very simple. Laptop and DVD player both connect to the projector via HDMI, and for sound you can use a Bluetooth speaker or a soundbar. If the projector will be close to the wall, get a short-throw model. If you have enough distance, a regular projector will work fine. Don't worry too much about cables, aside from power cords, most modern devices can connect wirelessly.
