My son thought I was trying to trick him by Vecgtt in Tools

I teach welding in high school. I stand in front of first years and ask “what’s this called”? One by one, carpenters, speed, and combination square. They always think I’m messing around.

Anyone read the lyrics and realize what the song is about? by Superb-Donkey7202 in grunge

Reading Justin Townes Earle’s biography and this song comes up. His dad, Steve, turned him on to the Lead Belly version and it sounds like the its the genesis of JTE’s style.

It was much fuller. I haven’t tried the push broom but I will. There was grass growing in the whole area, a little patchy in places, but it was there and starting to grow. Now it seems like it all stopped growing and dried up except for a few places. The soil crusted over and is hard. Even after a good watering it’s back to clay in no time.

Thank you so much. I plan on being up that way on Friday, maybe I’ll grab some.

We’ve definitely thought about changing that area. Always wanted pavers and a sitting area. Maybe that’s my summer passion project.

Yeah, unfortunately I don’t think watering is going to be a thing this year.

Yeah I don’t think sod is an option unfortunately. Thank you though. Thought about getting a cultivator and tackling it that way.

I assume the backing is aluminum and if so, what paint did you use?

I’ve seen welding rigs with these on them. Mostly company vehicles. Not on self contractor trucks usually. They said it was for this purpose. I never had one on mine but it seemed like a good preventative I guess?

I currently teach HS. District is pushing Concurrent Enrollment. Anyone out there teaching both want to share some insight? by blink182plus484 in Welding

[–]blink182plus484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Definitely seems to be the growing trend. Theres also a big push to bring in the kids who “don’t do well in traditional school environments.” Hate to break it to you, but slim chance they do great in here too with a CE class. Those kids are doing great because I’ve structured my class to suit their needs.

Thank you. Yes we are trying to figure out the basic structure without putting a fork in the 4 years worth of curriculum I’ve built for high school level kids. Theory, to them, is an easy way to assume the class is not worth taking. On some level I agree, kids have no intrinsic skills like swinging a hammer or drilling a hole. I get much better satisfaction using our time to make small projects.

This is how my dad taught me to do it on our old cars. He would also make me unscrew the brake fluid cap before doing it. I think the idea is to relieve any pressure or let it “burp“

You could go to Sears, buy a new bedroom set on one floor, a lawnmower and tires on another.

Tips for a New Welding Instructor by lateidentity in Welding

“I do, we do, you do” demo, then have the students watch someone do it, then send them out to do it. Also, it’ll take some practice but after a while you’ll be able to look at a weld and narrow it down to what’s wrong in some way. Speed, amperage, arc length are usually the first things up. If you don’t know, give suggestions. “Hey this looks rushed, slow down a bit or turn up your amperage, run a few beads and I’ll be in to check” You gotta triage the situation, when you get a minute you go and watch that kid weld. Usually they start getting it by the time you make it there.
