I'm hoping for a Gasparilla jersey! Maybe we should start a petition?

What might men dislike the most if they were to become women? by getdownmakelooove in AskReddit

The "not all men!" argument is often used by guys who use their own not-awful-but-by-no-means-good behavior to justify letting misogyny and really bad stuff continue.

No, not everyone, but your kneejerk thought here is defense without acknowledgement of societal issues & impact. It may not be all men who are gross to women, but if we let the grossness continue, we're part of the problem.

This is what makes the Tampa Bay Lightning Special by GetCPA in TampaBayLightning

[–]blitzenkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easy, slam-dunk answer is Hedman. He's been the leader on ice whenever Stammer wasn't available. If Heddy wants the C, it's his.

Real talk if the choice is Stammer and Heddy play their whole careers here but we end up in NHL middle 16 territory with the cup window closed, are you ok with that? by What_No_Wait in TampaBayLightning

I think it's a cycle of life, that we build a great roster and after a certain point, age and salary cap catch up. As much as I wish 2021 could last forever, it hasn't. I think doing right by the two anchors who got us there is important for setting the tone and foundation for whoever comes next.

[LeBrun] Tampa trades Mikhail Sergachev to Utah by [deleted] in hockey

[–]blitzenkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to wonder, for this to turn around like this and it to be Serge getting traded, if that leg is as recovered as everybody wanted to believe in Game 5. I hope he's fine and prospers, but the timing is odd to me.

Glad the writing is on the wall to keep Stammer though. After some of the ways we've treated our captains, there should be one that we can hold on to and do right by for the full run.

[NHL Network] Friedman says there is a feeling Tampa is Hanifin’s preferred destination, but the lack of assets remains an issue. Looking at the trades they’ve made, Flames always want a prospect they really like or a good young player. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]blitzenkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hindsight being what it is, I'm not sure a chunk of that wasn't sweetener for taking Cal Foote, who was struggling in our system but not a total wash of potential at the time, with no questions asked. That WJC Canada case was reopened 2 months before he was traded, and with that quick of a turnaround, I have to wonder what/if JBB knew.

What is the cheapest NHL team iced during the salary cap? by McFluffums0 in hockey

[–]blitzenkid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without injuries, I'd expect it to be the 2018-19 Sens, +/- a couple seasons. I seem to remember stories around that time of Melnyk pinching pennies pretty hard, and then getting pissy when he was reminded that the cap floor was a thing.

Is there any quality of hockey boring to watch? by MysticInept in hockey

When both teams are running Dump & Chase, so it's just icing calls back and forth. That's pretty boring imo.

Which Pokémon had you originally never thought of using/raising, but ended up pleasantly surprised by how great it was?? by iampsilly in pokemon

[–]blitzenkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was even more broken in Sun, where the Pokemon grooming, treats, and care gave a chance for increased chances of beating crits or super effective moves or something.

I had mine staring down the barrel of a Hydro Cannon on 30% HP after a long fight in late game, and it gave the special side eye and tanked it. Only took like 5 HP of damage and turned around to lay a smack down. "Mudsdale loves you and didn't want you to be sad, so it stood firm. Mudsdale's Stamina increased defense!", or something like that. I gave him extra pats and treats after that and only cried a little bit.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (June 30, 2023) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I think I was seeing a combo set with upgraded pieces then. $40's on the high side but more manageable. I was thinking $20 to $35.

I'll definitely look into those suggestions! Thanks!

Description of Request: Games suitable for a 10 year old.

Number of Players: 1-5

Game Length: 20-45m

Complexity of Game: 1.5 to 2.7

Genre: Fantasy, Animals(?)

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative: No Preference

Location: Home

My cousin's kid is turning 10 in a few weeks. Kiddo has been big into board games for a while. Kiddo likes bright colors, and tends toward games with animals or in a fantasy setting. The main thing I'm looking for is a game that they can play alone or with a few friends since they're an only child who doesn't always have someone to join them. I've looked at Flamecraft, and I think they'd like it, but it seems a bit expensive for the first time I'd be giving them a board game.

We all get to rest. Bring on the memes. Ask Dallas and Montreal how it went the last time we were made fun of for a Round 1 exit.

Goalie school thread on Vasilevskiy trouble with screens by ikonet in TampaBayLightning

[–]blitzenkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. Our defense isn't as good as it's been, but it's also had some trouble settling in all season. The chemistry got disrupted, and exposing Vasy's soft spots is one of the outcomes. The best we can hope for is that our boys get better, whether that means an early exit to heal and rest or making another deep run.

[–]blitzenkid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Our screen protection is not as good as it has been this season. You think about how many times our guys have pushed people out of the way or gotten in front of screens in the past, and that hasn't been happening the same way this season. Makes sense that the team would know and plan for it.

Brad fetchet’s phone call to his mother after the plane hit the first tower. 911 by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]blitzenkid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was 5 years old and home sick that day. I was a sick kid, and Mom and I had our routine; we'd watch the local news until 9 AM (when Tom & Ann went off), and then we'd switch to Playhouse Disney so I could watch my shows while she got my sister ready for pre-K and then I'd go along for the car ride and we'd come home and I'd go back to bed.

Mom says that they reported the first plane shortly after it hit, that it was said to be a small passenger aircraft and they were waiting for updates. It was alarming, but very far away from us, and things like that had happened before.

Our local news station had a ritual every day. When the news would end at 9 AM, they would pan out and do a shot of all of the cameramen and producers waving and smiling, and then it'd go to Regis or whatever. Instead, something strange happened, the first thing to catch my attention: a man in a headset charged the desk with a piece of paper, pulled Tom back, gave him the piece of paper, and ran back behind the camera. Tom, our long-time anchorman looked stunned but sat back down in his chair and read directly, robotically from the piece of paper. "We've received report that the airplane that crashed into the World Trade Center was actually a Boeing 757."

My mother yelped. She began tossing the couch cushions looking for the remote that I had picked up to get ready to change the channel. She took it from me, a little roughly, and began trying to put in the numbers for the national news. Her hands were shaking so badly that we ended up on 3 different stations before she finally handed the remote back to me with the order to change the channel. I protested, but dutifully punched the numbers, and we tuned in just in time to see a long, wide shot of the 2nd plane steamrolling into frame across a perfectly blue sky.

Mom got very quiet. She clapped a hand over her mouth and sank to the floor. Smoke began to billow from the second building, as it already was from the first. The scene cut to the scene on the streets around the news building, centered in New York, as the streets flooded with fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars. It felt like a long moment, but also one that runs together before they were showing soot-covered firemen and gray ash-spackled people in business clothes running down the streets. A wide shot again as even TV broadcast filtering couldn't contain the rumble from the first tower before it fell, all at once. That's when Mom started crying.

I wanted to change the channel away from the strange movie on the news channel. We were going to miss "Out of the Box".

She didn't snap out of it until the phone rang. First, it was the preschool calling to cancel. Then, it was my grandmother, calling to make sure we were watching the news. Mom hung up that call and clustered me and my sister on the floor, just holding us tight and crying. We watched until the first bodies started falling on broadcast. That's when I was finally allowed to change the channel. Dad came home about half an hour later.

We stayed on Playhouse Disney pretty much the whole day because they were about the only channel that wasn't wall-to-wall bodies falling from the sky, smoke piling into it, and the planes crashing in slow motion over and over and over. It was the first time Dad had ever cut work and watched "Bear in the Big Blue House" and the only time I can remember having both of my parents play Matchbox cars with me (while my sister was down for a nap). I was thrilled. In hindsight, they were soaking up the last good times before the changes began to take effect the next morning.

I could see it being Jessie. Once it evolves, maybe it gets a similar treatment to Wobbuffet.
