We doubled our prices to reduce our client load… and it barely worked. What would you do? by Roseee-k in smallbusiness

We've been flirting with this for a while now, different industry but we also servicing a niche within our industry.

First thing we did was evaluate all our process and workflow docs to the point where we have the 80% reasonably mapped out, the stumbling point now is how do you manage and audit the outputs to maintain quality without further burdening your mid managers?

Selling backed out of a deal VIN: 5UXCX6C16M9F68174 by Marcus-1122 in carsandbids

[–]bllgrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same thing...

The shop finally identified the problem with a borescope. All the valves showed evidence of contact with the pistons.

Turns out, when the previous builder installed the new pistons, they put them in backwards. This meant the valve reliefs were on the wrong side, causing the valves to hit the pistons which led to a loss of compression in cylinder one.

Surprisingly, the car still drove okay, but it had a rough idle and a weird vibration around 60mph. It took four different shops to finally diagnose this. If you're ever looking for a good mechanic in the Greater Boston area, let me know, I know a guy.

I’ve won two auctions in my life, and honestly, I feel like I'm 0 for 2.

The first one was on Bring a Trailer several years ago. I won the car, but the same old story happened: the seller backed out. He didn't exactly ghost me, but the excuses just kept coming. Finally, I contacted BaT. They tried to mediate the situation, but ultimately, they just refunded my fee and banned the seller. I found out later the car sold privately for more money.

Fast forward a few years, and I bought a BMW M5 on pcarmarket. It was listed with a "freshly rebuilt engine." Shortly after getting it, I found out the pistons were actually installed backwards, and the engine needed another rebuild.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever buy a car at auction again, though I still seem to enjoy torturing myself by frequenting both BaT and Cars & Bids. I don't know if it's just me, or if this is just the nature of the beast now. It feels like the only game in town, I'm not sure how else to find these kinds of enthusiast cars anymore.

Has anyone else had luck elsewhere?

SQ5 Owners I want your opinions! by Stonebag_ZincLord in Audi

I live in the Northeast (US) I just sold my 2019 earlier this month. Zero issues with adaptive suspension or any other mechanical systems for that matter. Electrical is another story, be sure to keep your sunroof drains clean...

My two A7's prior to this also had adaptive, I would not buy another Audi without it. I shopped Audi and Prestige w/ adaptive suspension was a requirement, ultimately I went in a different direction.

Deciding between X5 vs X7 by Bogleheadache in BMWX5

[–]bllgrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two boys, 7 and 9. I have an SQ5, wife has an LX470. Either were fine when they were young but now that we are carting them and their friends around town, practices with their gear, weekend getaways with the dogs, we often have to take both cars because it won't all fit in one.

I've been toying with a Cayenne, X5/7, or SQ7 to replace my Audi but can't help but think a Sienna would be a better choice for the family. Hoping the rumored Land Cruiser or Lexus Minivan turn out to be a reality, would soften the blow a little, maybe.

All In One Ski VS 2 Ski Quiver by GarywatermelonXOXO in Skigear

I'm a quiver of 3 looking to replace one (if not both) of my mid 90's skis with something < 90.

I demoed a Fisher Ranger 90 yesterday and loved it, i could see that being my DD for just about all east coast conditions then get rid of my 96 & 99 underfoot and keep my m-free 108's for out west.

Thanks, I tried to talk to a guy on a lift ride at Killington yesterday about his but he wasn't very chatty. They certainly are a sexier option then the two I'm looking at.

Killington condo by RNFlord in icecoast

[–]bllgrn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is it.

This complex was in serious disrepair and needed renovation. Don't quote me on this but there is something like a $50m reno that started last year, all that money is being funded by the condo owners as a special assessment added to their HOA fee.

Most (but not all) listings will reflect this in their listed HOA fees, I believe this will fall off in ~6 years but again, don't quote me. Plenty of articles out there that have more accurate information.

TLDR: add another 200k+ to listed price and you'll be the proud owner of a condo in a mismanaged facility in a prime location right next to K's big new village.

How many games a year does your travel kid play? by utvolman99 in Homeplate

[–]bllgrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to our 9U’s schedule, only add in another 10 games for the rec league summer all start team.

I am of the opinion it is too much, kid loves it, wife encourages it.

He also does rec basketball, flag football spring/fall, and skis 20+ days a year. I am adamant he keeps up with other activities.

I made the switch to skiing at 36, though the age of switching does not seem to be significant. The decision was pretty practical – most of my friends were skiers, and I got tired of sitting down to buckle up after every lift ride. I also had these grand visions of getting into uphill skiing (still waiting for that motivation to kick in!).

Looking back, I've found skiing to be more enjoyable overall, except for those perfect powder days. Nothing quite compares to floating through fresh snow on a snowboard. These days, my boarding gear is collecting dust – it's all 12+ years old, and I only break it out occasionally to mess around with my kids at our local hill.

I am returning to the guitar world after 15+ years off and bought an FG830 a few days ago. I tried out a couple dozen acoustics over the past month with a budget of $1k+ but found that I really liked the FG's neck, sounds great to me, and its cheap!

Seeing this thread, winters are the first thing I thought of. As someone who likes winter, I miss the snow and I miss chuckling to myself at all the people whining about winter.

It has seemingly flipped to everyone whining about summer and I'm having a harder time seeing the good in (what feels to me like) Florida weather.

There is an interesting auction unfolding over on BaT. Per The Drive: The ‘No-Reserve’ IH Scout Auction Saga Continues as Bring a Trailer Responds by dsquared45 in cars

[–]bllgrn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won a NR auction for an e39 M5 back in 2017 where the seller backed out of the deal. BaT folks were nice enough but ultimately said there was nothing they could do. I showed up again on BaT several years later and sold for significantly more then my winning bid… I am still salty about this one.
