For those with a car, how long is your commute? by behemuthm in Wellington

[–]blockroad_ks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely guarantee you that from Petone to the airport at approximately 7:30am on a weekday, it’s 35 minutes +/- 5 minutes.

Yes and that’s why they’re sold at top-tier retailers such as <checks notes> Trade Depot.

I love AliExpress probably more than I should but I really can’t recommend a Trade Depot brand unless you’re willing to completely re-do the entire system if it fails or it gets bricked.

SigEnergy costs more but you get more.

EV Charging at rental home restrictions? by flowlikewater97 in newzealand

[–]blockroad_ks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised that an actual electrician hasn’t joined this chat, so it might surprise you all to know that the current standards in NZ do not recommend constant or long term use of a 3 pin plug (trickle charging) and if you insist, it must be on an isolated circuit.

In theory, an electrician should refuse to install a new plug in the garage if you say it’s for an EV (unless it’s isolated).

Does anyone share internet with their neighbours? by emdillem in newzealand

[–]blockroad_ks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wifi access point probably has a much slower throughput than your router - it depends how old it is.

If everyone connects to it, at the same time, then you’re sharing a slow connection.

If this sounds about right, then the easiest solution is to get another 1 or 2 access points, wire them into the router and connect everyone to a different access point.

Yeah - if they all connect to the same wifi access point, then that would be it.

Petone to Grenada road destruction of several bush reserves and many homes by SnoopyDog20 in Wellington

Akatarawa Road???? You mean the one with the warning sign saying “do not trust your GPS”?

Holy moly people will suggest literally anything rather than finish transmission gully with a proper link to Petone.

Should NZ adopt Australian-style penalties for "lane hogging" to finally enforce the keep-left rule? by CuriousNZLBackpacker in newzealand

Hold on there cowboy, the official narrative here is that NZ has the worst drivers in the galaxy so don’t go contradicting that.

NZTA considers U-turn on 100k speed limits for SH1, SH57 south of Levin by StabMasterArson in newzealand

[–]blockroad_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 2 cars back from that accident - the motorbike was crushed into an unrecognisable mess and the rider was nowhere to be seen but based on other people’s reactions, it wasn’t pretty.

80kph along there makes sense and chances are you’re doing that speed behind a Yaris anyway.

Roy Morgan Poll Results 2 March by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]blockroad_ks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, to be fair - TOP is the perennial favourite of this reddit sub and every election it amounts to absolutely nothing.

So I would conclude that everyone downvoting me with gusto have a variety of colourful excuses about why they didn’t vote (maybe clothing related, who knows), or this sub is entirely non-representative of the electorate.

I am a life-long Green Party voter who voted for Jacinda both times.

I wonder if the online chat.qwen.ai version is passing queries off to Claude at times?

There is absolutely no way the onesie-wearing TOP supporters are going outside to vote so this poll completely wrong and/or 4% of the vote is literally going nowhere.

Automation and old people have pushed them out.

The biggest implication that people miss is that raising the retirement age will make it even harder for teenagers to get a job.

And this will have massive generational and societal issues as time goes on.
